PRINCIPLES FOR THE LOCATION OF SYNAGOGUES: SYMBOLISM AND FUNCTIONALISM IN A SPATIAL CONTEXT

Two traditional Jewish approaches to the location of synagogues can be found, one symbolic and one functional. The locational requirements are not identical; the symbolic approach deals with idealistic spatial status while the functional approach poses realistic locational demands. This spatio-locational conflict reflects a problematic situation on both theoretical and practical levels.     

Seismic regime of the west Bohemian earthquake swarm region: Preliminary results

Summary The western part of the Bohemian Massif located between two tectonic units, the Moldanubian and the Saxo-Thuringian, is characterized by the re-occurrence of earthquake swarms. The focal region for these swarms includes the territory of West Bohemia and the adjacent territory of SE Saxony and NE Bavaria. During the most recent swarm in December 1985 – January 1986, more than 8000 small earthquakes were recorded; the two largest earthquakes with local magnitudes (M_L) of 4·6 and 4·1. This paper presents a summary of the seismic energy release in space and time for the western part of the Bohemian Massif, based on seismic observations of permanent seismic stations established in West Bohemia since 1986. It was found out that microearthquake activity, mostly of a swarm-like character, persisted between two macroseismically observed swarms. The foci of the microearthquakes predominantly cluster in six main epicentral zones, four of which are located in West Bohemia or in its immediate vicinity in Saxony. The remaining two are in Saxony and in Bavaria. The four epicentral zones in West Bohemia were studied in detail. It was found that the individual zones differ in size, in depth of hypocentres, in geometry, as well as in temporal activity. Moreover, it was found that the seismicity in the most active epicentral zone is closely related to the system of principal tectonic faults referred to as the Kruné Hory fault and the Mariánské Lázn fault.     

渭河断陷及邻近地区震源空间分布规律探讨

选取１０３°～１１３°Ｅ,３１°～３９°Ｎ范围内陕西、山西、河南、湖北、甘肃、宁夏等省（区）共７９个地震观测台站１９８４—１９９３年的观测资料,对于被４个以上台站所记录到的地震,根据其直达横波与纵波的到时差,采用鲍威尔（Ｐｏｗｅｌ）搜索法重新进行了定位,测定了震源深度,共得到２０５１个可定震中的地震的震源深度数据．作出了渭河断陷及邻近地区现代地震的震中分布图、震源空间分布图、震源深度的平均等值线分布图、震源深度的经向剖面图和纬向剖面图．根据这些资料对震源空间分布规律进行了初步探讨．结果表明,渭河断陷及邻近地区震源的空间分布是不均匀的,与该地区大地构造的差异性及地壳速度结构的非均匀性密切相关．     

用成都遥测台网记录判定深远震的几个问题

因成都遥测台网使用的记录器不同,通过对１９９６～１９９８年两年多的资料分析,发现采用常规的分析处理方法,有可能将深远震误作浅源震,其结果是震中位置偏差最大可达１５度。鉴于此情况,提出一种新的简易办法,可以改善深远震定位精度。     

安宁河活动断裂带的新活动性

晚更新世开始具有强烈新活动性的安宁河断裂,全长近150千米,总体走向呈近南北,从断裂几何结构可明显地分成南（小盐井-西宁）、北（小盐井-田湾）两段。由数十条次级断层组成的安宁河活断裂带,无论从断层证据、微地貌、突变带还是地震活动等均表明这是一条以左旋水平走滑为主,具有强烈挤压特征的最新活动断裂带。     

1997年9月三水地震震相特征与发震构造

１９９７年９月广东省三水市发生的ＭＬ３．７、４．４级地震因震中烈度比同等震级的其它震例偏高许多,而且多个台站均记录到长周期振动规则的正弦形面波而特别引人注目。精确测定了这组地震的震源位置,得到震源深度约等于１ｋｍ;对比分析了震相记录特征、震区周围的历史地震活动及地质构造背景,认为这是一组罕见的低震级高烈度震例,其发生可能与震中附近的Ｆ７断层活动有关。     

对LEGE法性质的进一步讨论及其改进搜索方法

对ＬＥＧＥ法中的若干问题作了进一步的讨论,证明了Ｒε＝Ｖ是Ａε＝ｆ非退化的线性变换,基于Ｒε＝Ｖ对粗差进行定位定值等效于基于Ａε＝ｆ对粗差进行定位定值。此外,提出了一种粗差定位定值判断指标的改进搜索方法。

The Suburbanization of the Institutional Investment Advisory Industry: Metropolitan Philadelphia, 1983–1993

Traditionally, the institutional investment advisory industry in Pennsylvania has been concentrated in Philadelphia's Central Business District (CBD). However, analysis of the industry's organizational structure and spatial dynamics over the 1983–1993 study period indicates suburbanization and growth of the industry outside of the CBD. Maps and tables describe the institutional investment advisory industry's spatial organization at the intra-metropolitan scale using the Money Market Directory of Pension Funds and their Investment Advisors (Money Market Directories 1983, 1993). This industry-specific research contributes to the ongoing attempt to theorize financial services location and growth, and provides a basis for examining the impact of information technology (IT) on the spatial concentration of financial services activity at the intra-metropolitan scale.
