The crustal structure of the transition zone between the Eastern Alps and the western part of the Pannonian depression (Danube
basin) is traditionally interpreted in terms of subvertical Tertiary strike-slip and normal faults separating different Alpine
tectonic units. Reevaluation of approximately 4000-km-long hydrocarbon exploration reflection seismic sections and a few deep
seismic profiles, together with data from approximately 300 wells, suggests a different structural model. It implies that
extensional collapse of the Alpine orogene in the Middle Miocene was controlled by listric normal faults, which usually crosscut
Alpine nappes at shallow levels, but at depth merge with overthrust planes separating the different Alpine units. The alternative
structural model was tested along a transect across the Danube basin by gravity model calculations, and the results show that
the model of low-angle extensional faulting is indeed viable. Regarding the whole lithosphere of the western Pannonian basin,
gravity modelling indicates a remarkable asymmetry in the thickness minima of the attenuated crust and upper mantle. The approximately
160 km lateral offset between the two minima suggests that during the Miocene extension of the Pannonian basin detachment
of the upper crust from the mantle lithosphere took place along a rheologically weak lower crust.

The knowledge of past events is important for the assessment of debris-flow hazard. Amongst the sources of information, documents
from historical archives are particularly important in sites where the debris flows cause damage to urban areas and transportation
routes. The paper analyses the availability of historical documents on debris flows in Northeastern Italy and discusses factors
that can influence the building of time series from archive data both at regional and single basin scales. An increased number
of debris flows was observed in the studied region for the last decades. This could be due both to an increased frequency
of the events and to a larger availability of information: the analysis carried out indicates that the latter factor is probably
the most influencing. The importance of factors, which affect the collection of data, including the conservation of documents
and the presence and fragility of the elements at risk, is stressed in view of a wise use of historical data on debris flows. 相似文献

In Savoy, the Grands-Moulins recent fault scarps, previously interpreted as seismic fault ruptures, are in fact part of a major Sackung (deep seated gravitational spreading) of the French Alps (9 km long). We mapped more than 60 sackung scarps, some of them reaching 1330 m long and 30 m high. These antislope scarps stop the active screes and offset relict Dryassic rock glaciers by 16 m. We present geomorphologic observations attesting for their gravitational origin. This Sackung is primarily due to glacial debuttressing, while seismic shaking could be a triggering mechanism. The configuration of Alpine accumulation areas during the last glacial maximum (LGM) has been reconstructed using glacial–geological mapping. The results indicate that the LGM ice surface consisted of at least three major ice domes, all located south of the principal weather divide of the Alps. This implies that the buildup of the main Alpine ice cover during oxygen isotope stage (OIS) 2 was related to precipitation by dominant southerly atmospheric circulation, in contrast to today's prevalent westerly airflow. Such a reorganization of the atmospheric circulation is consistent with a southward displacement of the Oceanic Polar Front in the North Atlantic and of the associated storm track to the south of the Alps. These results, combined with additional paleoclimate records from western and southern Europe, allow an interpretation of the asynchronous evolution of the different European ice caps during the last glaciation. δ18O stages (OIS) 4 and 3 were characterized by location of the Polar Front north of 46°N (Gulf of Biscay). This affected prevailing westerly circulation and, thus, ice buildup in western Scandinavia, the Pyrénées, Vosges, and northern Alps. At the LGM, however, the Polar Front lay at 44°N, causing dominating southerly circulation and reduced precipitation in central and northern Europe. 相似文献

This study seeks to determine suspended-matter flux of the Isère at Grenoble, one of the most important rivers of the northern French Alps. Since 1994, and especially 1996, systematic samplings of the left bank make it possible to follow in one point the variations of suspended particles and matter (SPM) of this river. But from a single measurement, sometimes not very representative of the whole observable concentrations within the section, it remains still difficult to estimate precisely the SPM flux. The results of this study show in particular the successive appearance of several turbidity gradients, whose occurrence is explained mainly by the hydrological and hydro-sedimentary dynamics of this river. The estimate of these gradients thus makes it possible to extrapolate specific measurements more easily and consequently to daily define the quantities of suspended matter exported by the Isère. AbstractTwo groups of stretching lineations can be distinguished in the Central Alpine " root zone " between Ticino and Mera :1) Steeply plunging lineations formed during retrograde metamor-Phism under amphibolite/greenschist facies conditions indicate an uplift movement of the Central Alps. The lineations can be related to an important back-thrusting event of late Oligocene/early Miocene age.2) Gently plunging lineations formed under lower greenschist facies conditions display a pattern typical of a dextral strike-slip system. This paper describes a rockfall event in the Daisekkei Valley of Mount Shirouma-dake (2,932 m), the northern Japanese Alps.
The rockfall occurred on a steep cliff comprising well-jointed felsites and produced debris of ≥8,000 m3. Most debris was deposited on an elongated snowpatch located immediately beneath the cliff, and it caused casualties among
people who were trekking along a trail on the snowpatch. Additionally, a large rock block slipped 1 km on the snowpatch. The
rockfall could have been due to the differential retreat of the rockwall, which contains areas of high- and low-density joints.
Seasonal and diurnal freeze–thaw activities and snow avalanches and wash appear to be important factors responsible for the
retreat. Although some rock blocks that can collapse further remain on the rockwall, the position of the mountain trail in
the Daisekkei Valley is fixed. Fundamental reform of tourism systems for climbers, including education on natural hazards,

We study the morphology of the major rivers draining the Eastern Alps to test whether the active tectonics of this part of the orogen is reflected in the shape of channel profiles of the river network. In our approach we compare channel profiles measured from digital elevation models with numerically modelled channel profiles using a stream power approach. It is shown that regions of high stream power coincide largely with regions of highest topography and largest uplift rates, while the forelands and the Pannonian Basin are characterised by a significantly lower stream power. From stream power modelling we conclude that there is young uplift at the very east of the Eastern Alps, in the Bohemian Massif and in the Pohorje Range. The impact of the Pleistocene glaciations is explored by comparing properties of rivers that drain in proximal and distal positions relative to the ice sheet during the last glacial maximum. Our analysis shows that most knick points, wind gaps and other non-equilibrium features of catchments covered by ice during the last glaciations (Salzach, Enns) can be correlated with glacial processes. In contrast the ice free catchments of the Mur and Drava are characterized by channels in morphological equilibrium at the first approximation and are showing only weak evidence of the strong tectonic activity within these catchments. Finally, the channel profiles of the Adige and the divide between the upper Rhine and Danube catchments differ significantly from the other catchments. We relate this to the fact that the Adige and the Rhine respond to different base levels from the remainder of the Eastern Alps: The Adige may preserve a record from the Messininan base level change and the Rhine is subject to the base level lowering in the Rhine Graben. 相似文献

This paper investigates rapid channelized debris flow related to rainfalls in small alpine basins. Its goal is to evaluate
and correlate different geological and technical aspects with predisposing and triggering factors that can control these phenomena.
The study area is the upper part of the Susa Valley where 12 small basins were selected. For each of them, lithological, geomorphological,
climatic and technical information were mapped and analysed. Debris-flow triggering conditions, flow and depositional processes
were related to physical characteristics of the basin that can be easily measured and quantified. At least three different
groups of basins were found: G1) basins with one event each 4–6 years, characterised by massive or blocky calcareous rocks,
G2) basins with more than one event per year that show an abundance of layered or sheared fine-grained rocks and G3) basins
with recurrence levels exceeding 10 years, activated only by heavy and prolonged rainfalls, marked by massive or blocky coarse-grained
igneous rocks. Furthermore, important morphometric differences were found. These considerations are useful in terms of hazard

Caledonian high-pressure metamorphism in the Strona-Ceneri Zone (Southern Alps of southern Switzerland and northern Italy) 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The Strona-Ceneri Zone comprises a succession of polymetamorphic, pre-Alpidic basement rocks including ortho- and paragneisses,
metasedimentary schists, amphibolites, and eclogites. The rock pile represents a Late Proterozoic or Palaeozoic subduction
accretion complex that was intruded by Ordovician granitoids. Eclogites, which occur as lenses within the ortho-paragneiss
succession and as xenoliths within the granitoids record a subduction related high-pressure event (D1) with peak metamorphic
conditions of 710 ± 30 °C at 21.0 ± 2.5 kbar. After isothermal uplift, the eclogites experienced a Barrowtype (D2) tectonometamorphic
overprint under amphibolite facies conditions (570-630 °C, 7-9 kbar). U-Pb dating on zircon of the eclogites gives a metamorphic
age of 457 ± 5 Ma, and syn-eclogite facies rutile gives a 206Pb/238U age of 443 ± 19 Ma classifying the subduction as a Caledonian event. These data show that the main tectonometamorphic evolution
of the Strona-Ceneri Zone most probably took place in a convergent margin scenario, in which accretion, eclogitization of
MOR-basalt, polyphase (D1 and D2) deformation, anatexis and magmatism all occurred during the Ordovician. Caledonian high-pressure
metamorphism, subsequent magmatism and Barrow-type metamorphism are believed to be related to subduction and collision within
the northern margin of Gondwana.
