The 20 km2 Galabre catchment belongs to the French network of critical zone observatories (OZCAR; Gaillardet et al., Vadose Zone Journal, 2018, 17(1), 1–24). It is representative of the sedimentary lithology and meteorological forcing found in Mediterranean and mountainous areas. Due to the presence of highly erodible and sloping badlands on various lithologies, the site was instrumented in 2007 to understand the dynamics of suspended sediments (SS) in such areas. Two meteorological stations including measurements of air temperature, wind speed and direction, air moisture, rainfall intensity, raindrop size and velocity distribution were installed both in the upper and lower part of the catchment. At the catchment outlet, a gauging station records the water level, temperature and turbidity (10 min time-step). Stream water samples are collected automatically to estimate SS concentration-turbidity relationships, allowing quantification of SS fluxes with known uncertainty. The sediment samples are further characterized by measuring their particle size distributions and by applying a low-cost sediment fingerprinting approach using spectrocolorimetric tracers. Thus, the contributions of badlands located on different lithologies to total SS flux are quantified at a high temporal resolution, providing the opportunity to better analyse the links between meteorological forcing variability and watershed hydrosedimentary response. The set of measurements was extended to the dissolved phase in 2017. Both stream water electrical conductivity and major ion concentrations are measured each week and every 3 h during storm events. This extension of measurements to the dissolved phase will allow progress in understanding both the origin of the water during the events and the partitioning between particulate and dissolved fluxes of solutes in the critical zone. Abstract This paper presents a reach-scale sediment balance of a large impounded Mediterranean river (the lower Ebro, 1998–2008). Multi-temporal sediment storage and the influence of floods and tributaries on the sediment load were examined using continuous discharge and turbidity records. The mean annual suspended sediment load at the reach outlet (Xerta) is 0.12?×?106 t, corroborating previous results. Suspended sediment concentrations were low (SSCmean?=?13 mg L-1), attaining a maximum of 274 mg L-1. Erosion processes (channel-scour, bank erosion) are dominant, and net export of sediment occurs over the long term. Unexpectedly, ephemeral tributaries were found to contribute significantly: sediment delivered during torrential events attained 5% of the Ebro annual load, and was even larger than that in flushing flows. Overall, most of the suspended sediment load is transported by floods (up to 65% in some years). Challenges to the representation of suspended sediment transfer using a depth‐averaged flux 下载免费PDF全文
The sediment saturation recovery process (i.e. the adaptation of suspended sediment concentration [SSC] to local forcing) is the main feature of the non‐equilibrium suspended sediment transport (SST) frequently occurring in fluvial, estuarine and coastal waters. In order to quantitatively describe this phenomenon, a series solution is analytically derived, including the evolution of both vertical SSC profile and near‐bed sediment flux (NBSF), and is verified by net erosion and net deposition experiments, respectively. The results suggest that the sediment saturation recovery process involves vertically varying fluxes that are not represented correctly by depth‐averaging. Consequently, a vertical two‐dimensional (2D) combined scheme is established and applied respectively in to a dredged trench and to a sand wave feature to demonstrate this argument. By analyzing the variations of the calculated depth‐averaged SSC and NBSF we reveal that the equilibrium state presented by the sediment carrying capacity (SCC) form of the NBSF, which is usually applied in depth‐integrated SST models, lags behind the actual dynamic bed equilibrium state. Moreover, the key factor α, the so‐called saturation recovery coefficient within this form, is not only a function of local Rouse number but also is influenced by the local SSC profile. Finally, a three‐dimensional (3D) non‐orthogonal curvilinear body‐fitted SST model is developed and validated in the Yangtze estuary, China, combined with the in situ hourly hydrographic data from August 14–15, 2007 during spring tide in the wet season. Model results confirm that the vertically varying sediment saturation recovery process, the discrepancies between the actual and SCC form of NBSF and non‐constant value of α are significant in actual real geomorphic cases. The quantitative morphological change resulting from variations in environmental conditions may not be correctly represented by uncorrected depth‐integrated SST models if they do not treat the effects of vertical motion on the sediment saturation recovery process. Coupled groundwater flow and heat transport simulation for estimating transient aquifer–stream exchange at the lowland River Spree (Germany) 下载免费PDF全文
Subsurface flow and heat transport near Freienbrink, NE Germany, was simulated in order to study groundwater–surface water exchange between a floodplains aquifer and a section of the lowland River Spree and an adjacent oxbow. Groundwater exfiltration was the dominant process, and only fast surface water level rises resulted in temporary infiltration into the aquifer. The main groundwater flow paths are identified based on a 3D groundwater flow model. To estimate mass fluxes across the aquifer–surface water interfaces, a 2D flow and heat transport modelling approach along a transect of 12 piezometers was performed. Results of steady‐state and transient water level simulations show an overall high accuracy with a Spearman coefficient ρ = 0.9996 and root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.008 m. Based on small groundwater flow velocities of about 10?7 to 10?6 ms?1, mean groundwater exfiltration rates of 233 l m?2 d?1 are calculated. Short periods of surface water infiltration into the aquifer do not exceed 10 days, and the infiltration rates are in the same range. The heat transport was modelled with slightly less accuracy (ρ = 0.8359 and RMSE = 0.34 °C). In contrast to the predominant groundwater exfiltration, surface water temperatures determine the calculated temperatures in the upper aquifer below both surface water bodies down to 10 m during the whole simulation period. These findings emphasize prevailing of heat conduction over advection in the upper aquifer zones, which seems to be typical for lowland streams with sandy aquifer materials and low hydraulic gradients. Moreover, this study shows the potential of coupled numerical flow and heat transport modelling to understand groundwater–surface water exchange processes in detail. 利用1960~1999年全国600个站月平均降水资料,对黄河三门峡水库—小浪底水库间的夏季降水总量年际变化进行了统计分析,并应用功率谱诊断方法提取了夏季各月降水的振荡周期。在此基础上,选取了黄河三门峡水库—小浪底水库间降水量多与少的年份,利用NCEP再分析资料研究了其上空的水汽变化以及水汽输送量变化。结果表明,黄河三门峡水库—小浪底水库间降水量多的年份,其上空为较为明显的水汽辐合;降水量比较少的年份,其上空为明显的水汽辐散。选取多雨年(1982年)及少雨年(1997年),结合NCEP再分析资料以及TBB资料,进一步验证了上述结论。 相似文献

地下石油储备库于近海处建立,可降低石油运输成本,同时有较强的军事意义。但是临近海岸线,海水易入侵库区,导致库区内金属结构腐蚀,使储备库的使用年限降低。以某近海地下石油储备库工程为背景,构建了综合断层、节理密集带、导水通道等15种地质结构的精细化三维水文地质模型,研究了库区自然状态下和运行期的地下水渗流场及溶质运移场,模拟海水入侵风险。研究表明:(1)自然状态下地下石油储备库无海水入侵。(2)运行期只在洞库顶部以上25 m处设置四周超出洞室50 m、水幕孔间距为10 m、孔径0.11 m的水平水幕时,不能有效防治海水入侵。(3)洞库运行9 a时,3#洞室东南侧Cl−物质的量浓度超过7 mol/m3,海水开始入侵洞室群;运行22~23 a时,海水入侵速率最快;运行41 a 时,3#洞室东南侧Cl−物质的量浓度超过143 mol/m3,海水入侵达到对钢筋的强腐蚀程度;运行50 a时,除1#洞室外其余所有洞室均受到海水入侵,3#、4#洞室有部分区域达到强腐蚀程度,海水入侵最严重。建议增设垂直水幕等设施,以增强对海水入侵的防治。研究成果可为近海地区地下石油储备库抑制海水入侵提供借鉴。 相似文献

The RS‐tempQ Model ( r each– s cale t emporary flow biogeochemical model) is a conceptual model that can describe the hydrologic, sediment transport and biogeochemical processes of temporary rivers at the reach scale. The model takes into account the expansion–contraction of the inundated area of the river. It simulates the sediment transport and the nutrient fluxes that are transferred to the coastal area due to the first flash flood and during extreme rain events. The RS‐tempQ Model simulates the in‐stream processes during the wet and dry cycles as the river corridor expands and contracts. The model was used to assess and quantify the hydrologic and geochemical processes occurring in a temporary river reach (Krathis River) in Greece. Since the conventional gauging techniques cannot measure the flow in rivers that are split into small braided streams, discharge measurements could not be obtained in order to calibrate and verify the model. 利用气象观测资料、NCEP/NCAR 1°×1°再分析资料以及GDAS资料,对2021年10月2-7日山西持续性强降水天气过程进行分析。结果表明:稳定的乌拉尔山低槽后部冷空气扩散,中纬度短波槽东移,与副热带高压外围西南暖湿气流持续交汇,同时高低空急流耦合形成强烈上升运动,低层切变线和地面辐合线稳定维持,及低层水汽不断输送并形成辐合,为持续性强降水的发生发展提供有利动力和水汽条件。此次强降水过程分为对流性降水和稳定性降水2个阶段,2阶段水汽输送通道的源地、路径、高度均有明显差异,但水汽输送贡献率均以对流层中低层山西南侧的水汽输送占主导地位。降水开始前,对流层中上层存在对称不稳定,大气可降水量明显跃增;对流性降水阶段,干空气不断入侵,对流不稳定快速建立与释放,对流层中低层水汽辐合区与强上升气流配合,导致山西出现强对流天气。地形的阻挡、抬升及地形收缩作用,对局地极端强降水具有增幅作用。 相似文献

Temporal variations in temperature and salinity observed in 2004 were investigated on a short time scale in the Tsushima Strait.
The data were obtained by long-term in situ measurements at Mitsushima and Futaoi Island using an instrument equipped with
a piston-type wiper to avoid biofouling. In addition, the temperature and salinity values of the surface layer obtained by
a commercial ferryboat between Hakata and Busan were used to investigate their spatiotemporal variations. Temperature and
salinity variations with a time scale of several days had a negative correlation in the summer. This evidence suggests that
a warm and less saline water mass, which is considered to be mainly the Changjiang Diluted Water (CDW), flowed intermittently
through the Tsushima Strait in summer. In late July 2004, a large low-salinity water mass was detected in the Tsushima Strait.
At that time, the freshwater transport through the Tsushima Strait transiently reached about 12 × 104 m3s−1, which is estimated from observed acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) data along a ferryboat line and inferred salinity
profiles. This estimated value is more than double the maximum of the climatological monthly mean of the Changjiang discharge.
Furthermore, salinity and surface current data obtained by high frequency ocean radar (HF radar) indicate that water properties
at Mitsushima may occasionally represent part of the water flowing through the western channel via a countercurrent, although
Mitsushima is geographically located in the eastern channel. 相似文献
