Artificial Neural Networks for the analysis of spread⿿mooring configurations for floating production systems

This work presents the development of Artificial Neural Networks for the analysis of any arbitrarily defined spread-mooring configuration for floating production systems (FPS), considering a given scenario characterized by the water depth, metocean data, characteristics of the platform hull, and the riser layout. The methodology is applied to recent designs of deepwater semi-submersible platforms connected to a large number of risers with asymmetrical layout. In such cases, the design variables may include values for the azimuthal spacing and mooring radius varying along the corners of the platform, besides the pretension and material of the lines. The results of the case study indicated that, given any mooring configuration characterized by the combination of all these design variables, the ANNs provide fairly accurate values for the parameters of the response that are required for the design of mooring systems (typically platform offsets and line tensions).     

Patterns of species composition of beach seine fisheries off North-Western coast of Sri Lanka,fishers’ perceptions and implications for co-management

As in many developing countries, small-scale fisheries including beach seining contribute significantly livelihoods and food security of coastal communities. Beach seining in Sri Lanka is seasonal mainly during calm season deprived of strong monsoonal winds, and essentially a multi-species fishery. Knowledge about the seasonal occurrence of pelagic species is important to be known for proper planning of the fishing activity, especially due to the reason that beach seine fishers in many parts of Sri Lanka make decisions to attach the cod-end of correct type depending on the target species. The possibility of identifying pattern of seasonal occurrence of target fish species in beach seine fishing sites off the southern region of north-western coast of Sri Lanka was therefore investigated using Self Organizing Maps (SOM). The analysis indicated that beach seine fishers’ local knowledge to predict the occurrence of certain species in the fishing sites to adjust their fishing strategies to target desirable species was consistent with the findings of SOM approach. Consequently, it was concluded that as beach seine fishers use indirect indicators such as colour of sea water and behaviour sea birds predict the species occurrence fairly accurately, their local knowledge can be incorporated in the management planning of beach seine fisheries in the North Western coastal area of Sri Lanka.     

An averaging method to study the motion of lunar artificial satellites II: Averaging and Applications

On this, the second part of a two part study (Steichen, 1998) we further develop a semi-analytical theory for a lunar artificial satellite. This theory is obtained by averaging analytically the Hamiltonian function over period up to a month. The averaged equations are then numerically integrated. The solution is free from singularities at e = 0 and I = 0 and is not expanded in powers of these variables. In the last section, the analytic work is applied to characteristic examples to validate the method used. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Overbreak and underbreak in underground openings Part 1: measurement using the light sectioning method and digital image processing

Summary Quick, simple, reliable, and inexpensive measurements of overbreak and underbreak are needed for proper evaluation of tunnelling by the drill and blast method. Problems causing rock damage can be identified and remedied while the work is still in progress. The measurements are also useful in identifying causes of overbreak and overbreak, and in helping to settle contractual disputes relating to payment for replacement concrete and secondary blasting of tights (zones of underbreak). A newly developed method to measure underbreak and overbreak is presented here. The light sectioning method (LSM) uses a radial sheet of light to define the tunnel profile. An image of the final tunnel profile is acquired and digitized, using digital image analysis. This profile is superimposed over the design profile, and from this zones of overbreak and underbreak are identified, quantified, and presented graphically.     

岩体爆破破碎的微观机理

利用扫描对三种岩石的岩体及有机平板玻璃的爆破破碎现象进行了观测,对观测结果进行了分析、对比与讨论,分析了爆破荷载作用下岩体破碎的微观机理。     

基于波形互相关的爆破震相识别研究

利用内蒙古测震台网地震事件资料,选取爆破事件中SNR较高的8个爆破事件波形作为模板,使用基于波形互相关系数的模板匹配方法进行震相识别。研究结果表明,在震级相近的情况下,相同类型地震事件各自对应的波形之间互相关系数较大,可作为地震类型判别的依据。     

人造地震动合成中的位移误差分析

三角函数级数法是合成人工地震动常用算法之一,但是通过对加速度积分求取位移时,却存在与零线漂移相类似的位移漂移现象。     

影响核岛新浇混凝土强度的爆破振动速度阈值研究

针对短龄期混凝土强度容易受到附近爆破振动的影响，进行了一系列有针对性的模型实验，以确定在建核岛新浇灌混凝土强度所能承受的最高爆破振动速度值。实测结果表明C25、C40混凝土在浇筑12h、3d、7d凝期时受到1cm/s、5cm/s振幅的爆破振动后，与未受振动的混凝土相比、其强度、钢筋握裹力都不会受到明显影响。由于核电建设安全性的特殊性要求，本文提出对于核岛新浇筑的混凝土，其爆破振动阈值控制在1cm/s以内时，其强度不会受到影响。     

Design of a model blasting system to measure peak p-wave stress

Literature review information and model scale rock blasting tests have been utilized to study the effects of some blast and fragmentation parameters on peak p-wave stress. A method for modelling scaled blasting in sandstone blocks with dimensions 515×335×215 mm³ has been presented. The dynamic and static properties of the sandstone are given. The results from model blasting experiments instrumented with pressure gauges are discussed. It is also shown there exists a useful correlation between blast, fragmentation parameters and peak p-wave stress.
