Solutions of the linearized geodetic boundary value problem for an ellipsoidal boundary to order e

The geodetic boundary value problem (GBVP) was originally formulated for the topographic surface of the Earth. It degenerates to an ellipsoidal problem, for example when topographic and downward continuation reductions have been applied. Although these ellipsoidal GBVPs possess a simpler structure than the original ones, they cannot be solved analytically, since the boundary condition still contains disturbing terms due to anisotropy, ellipticity and centrifugal components in the reference potential. Solutions of the so-called scalar-free version of the GBVP, upon which most recent practical calculations of geoidal and quasigeoidal heights are based, are considered. Starting at the linearized boundary condition and presupposing a normal field of Somigliana–Pizzetti type, the boundary condition described in spherical coordinates is expanded into a series with respect to the flattening f of the Earth. This series is truncated after the linear terms in f, and first-order solutions of the corresponding GBVP are developed in closed form on the basis of spherical integral formulae, modified by suitable reduction terms. Three alternative representations of the solution are discussed, implying corrections by adding a first-order non-spherical term to the solution, by reducing the boundary data, or by modifying the integration kernel. A numerically efficient procedure for the evaluation of ellipsoidal effects, in the case of the linearized scalar-free version of the GBVP, involving first-order ellipsoidal terms in the boundary condition, is derived, utilizing geopotential models such as EGM96. 相似文献

Helmerts first and second method of condensation are reviewed and generalized in two respects: First, the point at which the effects of topographical and condensation masses are calculated may be situated on or outside the topographical surface; second, the depth of the condensation layer below the geoid is arbitrary. While the first extension permits the application of the generalized model to the evaluation of airborne and satellite data, the second one gives an additional degree of freedom which can be used to provide a smooth gravity field after reducing the observation data. The respective formulae are derived for the generalized condensation model in both planar and spherical approximation. A comparison of the planar and the spherical model shows some structural differences, which are primarily visible in the out-of-integral terms. Considering the respective formulae for the combined topographic–condensation reduction on the background of the density structure of the Earths lithosphere, the consequences for the residual gravity field are investigated; it is shown that the residual field after applying Helmerts second model of reduction is very rough, making this procedure unfavourable for downward continuation. Further considerations refer to the question of which sets of formulae should be used in geoid and quasigeoid determination. It is concluded that for high-precision applications the generalized spherical model, involving a depth of the condensation layer of between 20 and 30 km, should be superior to Helmerts second model of condensation, although it requires the direct calculation of the indirect effect, which is larger than in the case of Helmerts second method of condensation. 相似文献

The neutrally stratified flow over the Askervein Hill was simulatedusing a terrain-following coordinatesystem and a two-equation(k - ) turbulence model. Calculations were performed on awide range of numerical grids to assess, among other things, theimportance of spatial discretization and the limitations of theturbulence model. Our results showed that a relatively coarse gridwas enough to resolve the flow in the upstream region of the hill;at the hilltop, 10 m above the ground, the speed-up was 10% lessthan the experimental value. The flow's most prominent feature wasa recirculating region in the lee of the hill, which determinedthe main characteristics of the whole downstream flow. This regionhad an intermittent nature and could be fully captured only in the caseof a time-dependent formulation and a third-order discretization ofthe advective terms. The reduction of the characteristic roughnessnear the top of the hill was also taken into account, showing theimportance of this parameter, particularly in the flow close to theground at the summit and in the downstream side of the hill.Calculations involving an enlarged area around the Askervein Hillshowed that the presence of the nearby topography affected the flowneither at the top nor downstream of the Askervein Hill. 相似文献

Gas and particulate reaction products from the ozonolysis of -caryophyllene (I) in the presence of atmospheric air were investigated using a combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer system (3936, TSI) and a Condensation Particle Counter (3025A, TSI) were used to study secondary organic aerosol formation. The nighttime oxidation was carried out in a large outdoor smog chamber (190 m3). A wide range of ring retaining and ring opening products in the gas and particle phase are reported over the course of the reaction. On average, measured gas and particle phase products accounted for 64% of the reacted -caryophyllene (I) carbon. Measurements show that a number of reaction products with low vapor pressure (e.g., -caryophyllone aldehyde (IV), -norcaryophyllone aldehyde (V), -caryophyllonic acid (VIII), -14-hydroxycaryophyllonic acid (XIV)) were found in the sample taken during the first 20 min of the reaction and may play an important role in the early formation of secondary organic aerosol. A detailed mechanism is proposed to account for most products observed in this investigation. 相似文献

We briefly summarize the impact of protostellar evolution on the initialconditions of pre-main-sequence (PMS) contraction and identifytwo different kinds of instability in young stars closely connected to thePMS physical conditions. These are the Scuti type pulsations in intermediate-mass PMS stars (Herbig Ae stars) and the pulsation instability of brown dwarfs and very low mass stars. For the former, we review recentobservational and theoretical work and provide the location in the H-Rdiagram of known candidates. The January 11, 1693 eastern Sicilyearthquake is comparable only with the December 28,1908 Messina Straits event in the Italian seismichistory as regards magnitude (M
L 7), level ofdestruction and number of victims. The shock generateda strong tsunami, which hit the entire eastern coastof Sicily and particularly the town of Augusta. Theproblem of which fault was responsible for theearthquake is still open. Several hypotheses have beenformulated in the literature on the basis of differentkinds of geological, macroseismic and tectonic data,but a general agreement has not been reached yet. Animportant contribution to the discussion may come fromthe analysis of the tsunami data. In two previouspapers (Piatanesi et al., 1996; Piatanesi and Tinti,1998), the hydro-dynamical study of the tsunami basedon finite-element (FE) numerical simulations wascarried out taking into consideration mostlytheoretical faults, i.e. faults selected for theirsignificance in tsunami generation irrespective of thecorresponding geological evidence. This paper has tobe considered the continuation of the mentioned works.We have studied new sources proposed in theliterature, consistent with macroseismic data and/orgeological observations, and simulated thecorresponding tsunamis. We also built a new FE gridintroducing significant improvements in the coastlinerepresentation, and developed and applied a newalgorithm in order to account for the effect of thesea-bottom topography on the tsunami initialcondition. Some of the examined faults are located inthe Scordia-Lentini (SL) graben region and interceptthe coastline, others are placed in correspondencewith the Hyblaean-Malta (HM) escarpment and runparallel or sub-parallel to the coast. The conclusionof our work is that none of these faults respectsfully the available observations on tsunami, and thatthe faults exhibiting the best fit are those placed inthe SL region. It is worth stressing that our resultsare important for the assessment of seismic andtsunami hazard/risk in eastern Sicily, keeping also inmind that the 1693 earthquake has been selected as thereference event for an earthquake-scenario study inCatania and in south-eastern Sicily, called `CataniaProject', funded by CNR/GNDT (Consiglio Nazionaledelle Ricerche/Gruppo Nazionale Difesa dai Terremoti). 相似文献

The Kamchatka peninsula, located in the far east of Russia, is a geologicallyactive margin where the Pacific plate subducts beneath the North Americanand Eurasia plates. This area is characterised by frequent and strong seismicactivity (with magnitudes of up to 8.6), with epicentres generallydistributed offshore along the eastern coast of the peninsula. Starting in1977, hydrogeochemical data have been collected with a mean samplingfrequency of three days in wells and springs located in the southern area ofthe Kamchatka peninsula. In order to reveal possible earthquake precursors,the groundwater gas content data collected in the last ten years at fivewells, were statistically analysed. Each signal exceeding a 3threshold was considered to be an irregularity and two different methodsof defining an anomaly were assumed. In the first, an anomaly was declaredwhen an irregularity occurred simultaneously on more than one gas contentat each well. In the second method, an anomaly was declared when anirregularity occurred simultaneously on a given type of gas at more thanone well. As a mechanism for associating an anomaly with an earthquake,the earthquakes that occurred with magnitudes greater than 6.5 and withina distance of 250 km from each well, were selected. Using this frameworkboth successes and failures were identified. It is shown that on the basis ofthis statistical analysis, there is a great probability that the successes revealedare not precursors but random coincidences. 相似文献

1995年1月17日,日本关西兵库县南部发生7.2级地震(阪神地震),神户一带遭受巨大损失,人员伤亡惨重,这次地震是自唐山地震之后近20年来,世界上最引人注目的一次地震事件。本文首先从地震预报的角度,简要地介绍了阪神地震前观测到的中短期前兆异常,包括震群活动、地震空区,水中氯离子浓度增加以及低频电磁辐射等,分析了阪神地区的地震危险性,指出在中期预测圈定的强震危险区,加强短临预测的跟踪,是最佳地震对策,也是起到减轻地震灾害,取得实际御防效果的基础.同时提出推进工程抗震研究,发展城市抗震工程学,提高城市综合防御地震危害的必要性。最后,文中对近期我国东部震情作了简要分析,并对强化监测,努力捕捉短临前兆信息,提出了相应的建议。 相似文献
