The effects of finite amplitude are examined in two-dimensional, standing, internal gravity waves in a rectangular container which rotates about a vertical axis at frequency f/ 2. Expressions are given for the velocity components, density fluctuations and isopycnal displacements to second order in the wave steepness in fluids with buoyancy frequency, N , of general form, and the effect of finite amplitude on wave frequency is given in an expansion to third order. The first order solutions, and the solutions to second order in the absence of rotation, are shown to conserve energy during a wave cycle. Analytical solutions are found to second order for the first two modes in a deep fluid with N proportional to sech( az ), where z is the upward vertical coordinate and a is scaling factor. In the absence of rotation, results for the first mode in the latter stratification are found to be consistent with those for interfacial waves. An analytical solution to fourth order in a fluid with constant N is given and used to examine the effects of rotation on the development of static instability or of conditions in which shear instability may occur. As in progressive internal waves, an effect of rotation is to enhance the possibility of shear instability for waves with frequencies close to f . The analysis points to a significant difference between the dynamics of standing waves in containers of limited size and progressive internal waves in an unlimited fluid; the effect of boundaries on standing waves may inhibit the onset of instability. A possible application of the analysis is to transverse oscillations in long, narrow, steep-sided lakes such as Loch Ness, Scotland. 相似文献

The reliability and/or stability of the lifeline structures against failure under seismic loads are of critical concern, and must be studied carefully. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the commonly encountered backfill effects on the dynamic response of rectangular tanks. However, only the exterior wall of the tank which interacts with both the backfill and fluid is tackled, as each part of the structure shows considerable differences in terms of both the load bearing mechanisms and the geometrical and positional differences. Finite element analyses are employed, taking into consideration the fluid-wall-backfill interaction. The analyses are conducted to observe whether or not both backfill and wall behavior can be affected by variation of the internal friction angle. For that purpose, some comparisons are made on vertical displacements of the backfill, roof displacements, stress responses, etc., by means of internal friction angle variations of the backfill from 25° to 40°. Consequently, it is observed that the variations on maximum vertical displacements are affected considerably. In contrast, the maximum stress responses are affected partially. However, the inertial effects of the backfill show that pseudo-static approximations may be insufficient to understand the dynamic behavior of the backfill-wall-fluid system. 相似文献

A numerical modelling study is presented focusing on the effects of mesoscale sea-surface temperature (SST) variability on
surface fluxes and the marine atmospheric boundary-layer structure. A basic scenario is examined having two regions of SST
anomaly with alternating warm/cold or cold/warm water regions. Conditions upstream from the anomaly region have SST values
equal to the ambient atmosphere temperature, creating an upstream neutrally stratified boundary layer. Downstream from the
anomaly region the SST is also set to the ambient atmosphere value. When the warm anomaly is upstream from the cold anomaly,
the downstream boundary layer exhibits a more complex structure because of convective forcing and mixed layer deepening upstream
from the cold anomaly. An internal boundary layer forms over the cold anomaly in this case, generating two distinct layers
over the downstream region. When the cold anomaly is upstream from the warm anomaly, mixing over the warm anomaly quickly
destroys the shallow cold layer, yielding a more uniform downstream boundary-layer vertical structure compared with the warm-to-
cold case. Analysis of the momentum budget indicates that turbulent momentum flux divergence dominates the velocity field
tendency, with pressure forcing accounting for only about 20% of the changes in momentum. Parameterization of surface fluxes
and boundary-layer structure at these scales would be very difficult because of their dependence on subgrid-scale SST spatial
order. Simulations of similar flow over smaller scale fronts (<5 km) suggest that small-scale SST variability might be parameterized
in mesoscale models by relating the effective heat flux to the strength of the SST variance. 相似文献

A non-linear three-dimensional unstructured grid model of the M2 tide in the shelf edge area off the west coast of Scotland is used to examine the spatial distribution of the M2 internal tide and its higher harmonics in the region. In addition, the spatial variability of the tidally induced turbulent
kinetic energy and associated mixing in the area are considered. Initial calculations involve only tidal forcing, although
subsequent calculations are performed with up-welling and down-welling favourable winds to examine how these influence the
tidal distribution (particularly the higher harmonics) and mixing in the region. Both short- and long-duration winds are used
in these calculations. Tidal calculations show that there is significant small-scale spatial variability particularly in the
higher harmonics of the internal tide in the region. In addition, turbulence energy and mixing exhibit appreciable spatial
variability in regions of rapidly changing topography, with increased mixing occurring above seamounts. Wind effects significantly
change the distribution of the M2 internal tide and its higher harmonics, with appreciable differences found between up- and down-welling winds and long- and
short-duration winds because of differences in mixing and the presence of wind-induced flows. The implications for model validation,
particularly in terms of energy transfer to higher harmonics, and mixing are briefly discussed. 相似文献

利用系统聚类分析和相关分析方法,根据1953--2005年内蒙古东部产粮区48个气象站的气象资料.进行了气候相似区划分;并得出各区在热量、水分的时间变化上具有较高的区域一致性。据此,以区域内各站点的温度、降水和日照时数的平均值作为区域热水光时间序列,分析了各气候要素变化特征及其对农业可能产生的影响。结果表明:各区域温度呈上升趋势,增温速率(平均增温为0.3-0.4℃/10a)高于中国平均增温速率(0.22℃/10a),增温幅度呈从西向东递增的趋势,平均最低气温增幅最大,平均最高气温增温幅度与海拔呈正相关,尤以1988年以后变暖趋势最为明显;降水量基本呈减少趋势,年代际波动较大;20世纪90年代至今,内蒙古东部产粮区生长季降水明显减少,气温迅速升高,暖千化趋势表现明显,温差减小和日照时数减少,水热匹配格局发生改变,粮食产量出现减少趋势的可能性较大。 相似文献

The source and significance of three nutrients – nitrogen, phosphorous and silicon – were investigated by a modified dilution method performed on seawater samples from the Central Yellow Sea (CYS), in spring blooming period of 2007. This modified dilution method accounted for the phytoplankton growth rate, microzooplankton grazing mortality rate, the internal and external nutrient pools, as well as nutrients supplied through remineralization by microzooplankton grazing. The results indicate that phytoplankton growth during the bloom is mostly contributed by internal nutrient pools (KI=0.062–1.730). The external nutrient pools (KE=<0–0.362) are also of importance for phytoplankton growth during the bloom at some sampling sites. Furthermore, the contribution of the recycled-nutrient pool by remineralization (KR=<0–0.751) is significant when microzooplankton grazing rate was higher than 0.5 d−1 during the spring phytoplankton blooms in the Central Yellow Sea. Compared with internal phosphorus, internal nitrogen and silicon contribute more to the phytoplankton production at most sampling stations. 相似文献

Four months of eddy correlation data collected over a grass field and a nearby sage brush community are analyzed to examine
the adjustment of the boundary-layer structure as it flows from the heated brush to the snow-covered grass. The grass site
includes a 34-m tower with seven levels of eddy correlation data. The midday heat flux over the snow-covered grass and bare
ground surfaces is often downward particularly with melting conditions, while the corresponding heat flux over the brush is
almost always upward. For most of these cases, a stable internal boundary layer over the snow is well defined in terms of
vertical profiles of the buoyancy flux over the snow-covered grass. The stable internal boundary layer is generally embedded
within a deeper layer of flux divergence corresponding to increasing upward heat flux with height above the internal boundary
layer. With thin snow cover, the surface heat flux over the grass is weak upward due to heating of grass protruding above
the snow so that the flow adjusts to a decrease of the upward surface heat flux in the downwind direction. This common case
of an adjusting boundary layer contrasts with the formation of an internal boundary layer due to a change of sign of the surface
heat in flux the downwind direction. The adjustment of the boundary layer to the decrease of the surface heat flux leads to
vertical divergence of the upward heat flux in contrast to the usual heated boundary layer over homogeneous surfaces. The
consequences of the cooling due to the vertical divergence of the heat flux are discussed in terms of the heat budget of the

In this study, we investigate two internal wave generation methods in numerical modeling of time-dependent equations for water wave propagation, i.e., delta source function method and source term addition method, the latter of which has been called the line source method in literatures. We derive delta source functions for the Boussinesq-type equations and extended mild-slope equations. By applying the fractional step splitting method, we show that the delta source function method is equivalent to the source term addition method employing the energy velocity. This suggests that the energy velocity should be used rather than the phase velocity for the transport of incident wave energy in the source term addition method. Finally, the performance of the delta source function method is verified by accurately generating nonlinear cnoidal waves as well as linear waves for horizontally one-dimensional cases. 相似文献
