Field data are reported for the horizontal and vertical flux of wind-eroded sediment on an agricultural field in northern Germany. Measurements were made during a windstorm that hit the region on 18 May 1999. The magnitude of both fluxes was significantly affected by the presence of a surface crust covering the test field. Measuring the physical crust strength at 45 locations with a torvane, the relationships between crust strength (τ) and the horizontal (Fh) and vertical (Fv) sediment fluxes were investigated. Both fluxes decreased as the surface crust became stronger. The decay behaved as an exponential function for both types of flux. The horizontal sediment flux over a crusted surface can be accurately predicted by completing Marticorena and Bergametti's [Journal of Geophysical Research 100 (1995) 16415] erosion model with a crust function. The vertical particle flux over crusted soil can be calculated by adding a similar function to Alfaro and Gomes's [Journal of Geophysical Research 106D (2001) 18075] dust production model. The study also suggests that the gradual bombardment of a surface crust by impacting particles does not immediately result in a decay of the crust's protective effect, provided that the crust has a minimum thickness. However, once the crust becomes perforated, its protective effect disappears very quickly, leading to much higher horizontal and vertical sediment fluxes than predicted for undamaged crusted soil.  相似文献

This paper outlines a method of analysis of the steady-state dynamic response of a stratified soil to a horizontal time-harmonic loading applied at a circular area. It is assumed the load to be uniformly distributed over the contact area and embedded at an arbitrary depth. It is shown that by means of application of integral Hankel transform, the problem can be reduced to a form of a single integral, which can be taken numerically. Results of the numerical simulations for an embedded horizontal impulse load are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the developed procedure.  相似文献

Horizontal drains have been commonly used in stabilising unsaturated residual soil slopes. This study examines the effectiveness of horizontal drains in stabilising residual soil slopes against rainfall-induced slope failures under a tropical climate. The study includes field instrumentation at two residual soil slopes complemented with a parametric study relating to drain position. Field monitoring results indicate that rainfall infiltration is limited to a certain depth below which infiltration becomes insignificant. This zone tends to be unsuitable for horizontal drains. Horizontal drains were found to be most effective when located at the base of a slope. The parametric study indicated conditions under which horizontal drains are effective or ineffective in improving the stability of a slope. It was also found that horizontal drains have little role in minimising infiltration in an unsaturated residual soil slope. Benefits of using horizontal drains can be obtained through the lowering of the water table.  相似文献

It is recognized that soil improvement techniques are not economically feasible for mitigation of liquefaction-induced lifeline damages because of the large areas served. Instead, it is more practical to execute an emergency action immediately after an earthquake in order to prevent or minimize possible lifeline failures caused by the soil liquefaction. Essential element in the implementation of such a plan is the real-time identification of liquefied sites, which can be successfully achieved by analyzing surface strong motion records. In this paper, the thresholds of two ground motion parameters—the peak surface velocity and horizontal shaking frequency of the ground—that are associated with the soil liquefaction are assessed utilizing the theory of one-dimensional wave propagation in linearly elastic medium. Obtained simple expressions for both parameters are used to estimate their ranges and are examined against several case histories. Minimum level of peak ground velocity (PGV) is verified by experimental data from shaking-table test. Linear relationships between amplitude ground motion parameters at liquefied-soil sites are also developed. Results suggest that liquefaction is likely to take place when PGV exceeds 0.10 m/s and that the upper bound of horizontal ground vibration frequency after liquefaction occurrence is 1.3–2.3 Hz.  相似文献

利用IGS及中国地壳运动观测网络GPS连续观测站6年多时间的观测结果, 以中国大陆东部的稳定点组作为水平位移与垂直位移解的参考基准, 得到了2004年12月26日印尼苏门答腊8.7级与2005年3月28日8.5级大震前后GPS观测站的地壳水平及垂直位移时间序列的结果。 尽管所采用的GPS站点少, 且分布范围大, 但仍可看到在如此大的地震震前、 同震与震后地壳运动的特征, 为今后观测研究提供了十分有意义的结果。 文中所采用稳定点组基准有效消除水平位移场的平移与旋转, 而局部椭球面的不平性对计算区域地壳运动结果, 特别是对垂直位移的影响很小, 说明了位移解所描述的大范围区域位移场是合理的。 这两次地震的同震水平位移及震后的垂直位移影响量级达数厘米, 范围达远离8.7级地震震中4500 km之外, 甚至更远。  相似文献

对GPS基准站连续观测水平位移时间序列数据的时-频特征进行了分析, 为了突出局部变化的信息, 在中国大陆东部选取一组参考点进行相似变换。 利用小波分析和傅里叶分析方法对资料进行处理, 分析结果表明, 2001年11月14日昆仑山口西8.1级大地震前中国大陆西部部分测点水平位移序列出现短期变化信号。  相似文献
