We have studied the polarized optical absorption and EPR spectra of Co-doped beryls grown by hydrothermal, flux, and gas-transport methods, and chrysoberyl grown by the Czochralski method. In beryls three groups of bands, belonging to three various Co centers, were distinguished by analysis of the absorption band intensities. The first group, bands with maxima at 22 220 (E c), 17 730 (E c), and 9090 (E c), 7520 (E c) cm–1 are due to Co2+ in octahedral site of Al3+. The second group is bands at 18 940, 18 250, 17 700 (E c), 18 300, 17 700, 17 000 (E c) and 8830 (E c), 7350 (E c) cm–1 and 5320 (E c), 3880 (E c) cm–1, which are caused by Co2+ in tetrahedral site of Be2+. A weak wide band in flux and gas-transport beryl in the region of 12 500–8300 cm–1 (E , c) is related to Co3+ in octahedral Al3+ site. In hydrothermal beryl, bands 13 200 (E c), 10 900 (E c), and 8500 (E c) cm–1 are caused by an uncontrolled impurity of Cu2+ ions. For Co-doped chrysoberyl one type of center of Co has been established: Co2+ in the octahedral site of Al3+. In the approximation of the trigonal field with regard to Trees correction, the energy levels of Co2+ have been calculated in octahedral and tetrahedral coordination. There is good agreement between the obtained experimental and calculated data. The polarization dependence of the optical absorption bands is explained well in terms of the spin-orbit interaction. 相似文献

Although bireflectance measurements are routine, to date they have been limited to selected single point measurements. This study uses a 360° rotating polarizer in the incident light path combined with digital imaging to map the optical bireflectance of a polished specimen over the complete field of view, a system herein referred to as ‘Bireflectance Imaging of Coal and Carbon Specimens’ (BRICCS). True maximum reflectance maps and maps of polarizer angle for maximum reflectance (to identify co-ordered regions) are obtainable from the same data. A variety of coal, coke, char, graphite, and carbon/carbon specimens have been examined with the BRICCS system and the results demonstrate that the system can produce accurate maximum and apparent minimum reflectance, bireflectance, and extinction angle images. For example, flakes of natural graphite show no bireflectance along their long axis except in areas that have been strained. The images are maps showing the value of every pixel that has been calibrated by mineral reflectance standards. The maps are unique in that they show fields of view that cannot be seen by normal viewing through the microscope. For example, the bireflectance maps show the maximum difference between the maximum and apparent minimum reflectances for each of the million pixels at twenty orientations of the polarizer. 相似文献

分析了MODIS卫星资料反演的2001年我国中东部地区气溶胶光学厚度的时空分布特征,并利用中尺度数值模式MM5对该地区硫酸盐气溶胶的直接辐射强迫及其气候效应进行了模拟。结果表明:2001年四川盆地、长江中下游地区、黄淮一带及两广等地区气溶胶光学厚度较大。各季光学厚度变化不同,全年以春季最大。地面温度响应呈现出明显的区域季节变化特征,主要表现为冬、春、秋季南方降温幅度明显,夏季北方降温幅度明显。就区域平均而言,2001年中东部地区晴空时气溶胶辐射强迫以春季最大,达-34.53 W/m2;夏季次之,达-22.76 W/m2;冬季再次,达-22.57 W/m2;秋季最小,达-20 W/m2。地面降温则以冬季最大,达-0.65℃;秋季次之,达-0.37 ℃;春季再次,达-0.34 ℃;夏季最小,达-0.09 ℃。 相似文献

We examine the impact of the Atmospheric Brown Clouds on the direct radiative forcing of the Himalayan foothills and the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) regions, home for over 500 million S. Asians. The NASA-Terra MODIS satellite data reveal an extensive layer of aerosols covering the entire IGP and Himalayan foothills region with seasonal mean AODs of about 0.4 to 0.5 in the visible wavelengths (0.55 micron), which fall among the largest seasonal mean dry season AODs for the tropics. We show new surface data which reveal the presence of strongly absorbing aerosols that lead to a large reduction in solar radiation fluxes at the surface during the October to May period. The three-year mean (2001 to 2003) October to May seasonal and diurnal average reduction in surface solar radiation for the IGP region is about 32 (±5) W m−2 (about 10% of TOA insolation or 20% of surface insolation). The forcing efficiency (forcing per unit optical depth) is as large as −27% (note that the forcing is negative) of top-of-atmosphere (TOA) solar insolation, and exceeds the forcing efficiency that has been observed for other polluted regions in America, Africa, East Asia, and Europe. General circulation model sensitivity studies suggest that both the local and remote influence of the aerosol induced radiative forcing is to strengthen the lower atmosphere inversion, stabilize the boundary layer, amplify the climatological tendency for a drier troposphere, and decrease evaporation. These aerosol-induced changes could potentially increase the life times of aerosols, make them more persistent, and decrease their single scattering albedos, thus potentially leading to a detrimental positive feedback between aerosol concentrations, aerosol forcing, and aerosol persistence. In addition, both the model studies and observations of pan evaporation suggest that the reduction in surface solar radiation may have led to a reduction in surface evaporation of moisture. These results suggest the vulnerability of this vital region to air pollution related direct and indirect (through climate changes) impacts on agricultural productivity of the region. 相似文献

Depth profiling of in situ-produced cosmogenic 10Be and 26Al was applied to estimate the rate of long-term denudation on actively uplifting hillcrests made of weakly consolidated sandstone in the Boso Peninsula, Japan. The nuclide concentration in the topmost meter of the hillcrest has reached an equilibrium value owing to surface denudation at 90 mm/kyr. This rate is much smaller than the regional uplift rate, and is consistent with the current isolated residual topography of the hillcrest. By considering the epoch of emergence of the sandstone hillcrests, we estimate the summit denudation rate of the adjacent mudstone hill formation to be 720 ± 110 mm/kyr. 相似文献

Volcanic ash layers in sediment cores are valuable geochronological markers in paleolimnological research. The composition
of volcanic glass is related to identifiable, chronologically distinctive volcanic eruptions. Consequently, tephra layers
provide time horizons allowing regional-scale correlations for lake sediments. Volcanic glass is often present in samples
routinely prepared by paleolimnologists such as diatom slides and thin sections. Knowledge of the morphological and optical
properties of volcanic glass allows for its identification. This is essential for the identification of ash layers that are
not macroscopically visible or to track their vertical migration in soft organic sediments. The purposes of this note are
to: (1) describe how the morphological (i.e., shape, vesicularity) and optical (i.e., refractive index and birefringence)
properties can be used to identify volcanic glass in preparations from lake sediments; and (2) show how the quantification
of volcanic glass from diatom slides is used to quantify the density-induced displacement of a 4.5 cm-thick Mazama ash-layer
