Automation of the cartographic design process is central to the delivery of bespoke maps via the web. In this paper, ontological modeling is used to explicitly represent and articulate the knowledge used in this decision-making process. A use case focuses on the visualization of road traffic accident data as a way of illustrating how ontologies provide a framework by which salient and contextual information can be integrated in a meaningful manner. Such systems are in anticipation of web-based services in which the user knows what they need, but do not have the cartographic ability to get what they want. 相似文献

目前对海洋涡旋的分析主要采用水团、近海海流分析和数值模拟方法,这些方法结合不同的区域资料已经有过很多成功的研究。但面对日益增长的多源、大面积海洋遥感数据,在快速自动化提取海洋涡旋的空间信息方面还存在很多难题。因此该文针对海洋涡旋空间信息的快速定量分析问题,提出了基于案例推理(Case-Based Reasoning,CBR)的海洋涡旋空间相似性研究方法。该方法首先采用多源数据(遥感数据、遥感反演数据、观测数据等)进行历史涡旋案例定量分析,并构建基于CBR的海洋涡旋案例表达模型和历史案例库;继而采用“基于重心矢径的序列分析方法”进行历史涡旋空间相似性分析,并结合典型的海洋涡旋区域给出具体实例。研究结果表明该方法是可行的。 相似文献

It is recognized that the spatial organization of urban system can be abstracted as three main components: a set of points,
which describes the structural characteristics such as social and economic properties of individual city; a set of lines,
which indicates the patterns of interaction among the cities; a set of spheres, which indicates how and to which extent each
city affects the area around it. Even if such substance of urban system coincides with the main purpose of GIS for spatial
or geometric data types such as point, line and region, little attention has been given to this point. By an evidence analysis
of China, the application of potential analytical capabilities of GIS for urban system is attempted in this study. We find
GIS acts as an efficient tool not only for the spatial structure analysis of urban system, which including potential distribution
of cities, extraction of principal linkages among cities, and delimitation of subsystems; but also for the verification of
socio-economic attributes and dynamics of urban system.

Abstract<title/>Cartogram is a technique for visualisation of the geographical distribution of spatial data. It has two main types, i.e. distance cartogram and area cartogram. Area cartogram is a transformed map in which areas are resized in proportion to an attribute value. A number of techniques have been developed for the generation of area cartograms. Some researchers consider cartogram as a very effective technique for visualisation of spatial data, while others doubt about the effectiveness because of the possible distortion in shape and/or disconnectivity in topology. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of area cartogram for visualizing spatial data. In this study, two comparative experiments have been conducted. One is the comparison between thematic maps and cartograms, and the other is the comparison among different types of area cartogram. Two sets of data with different characteristics are used, i.e. 2005 China population data and 1996 US election data. Results show that cartogram is more effective in the representation of the 1996 US election data which provides a qualitative result (i.e. in binary form or nominal data), but thematic map is far more effective in the representation of 2005 China population data which provides a quantitative result (in classes or ordinal data). It is also found that among different types of area cartogram, pseudo-cartogram is the most preferred technique and Dorling cartogram is the least preferred one. 相似文献
