The paper presents the first detailed mineralogical, structural, and crystal-chemical characteristics of the mixed-layer corrensite-chlorites
from the glauconitic sandy-clayey rocks that make up the bottom (0.10 m) of a basal member (1.50 m) of the lower subformation
of the Yusmastakh Formation (Riphean, Anabar Uplift, North Siberia). Like the overlying mudstones (1.40 m) in the basal member,
these rocks are generally transformed up to the deep catagenesis level and included in a thick dolomite sequence. In mudstones

Summary This study assesses the relative efficiency of the use of rainfall amount and rainy days in the determination of rainfall
onset and retreat dates in Nigeria based on rainfall data for the period 1961 to 2000. Daily rainfall data were sourced from
the archives of the Nigerian Meteorological Services, Oshodi Lagos. The specific locations for which data were collected are:
Ibadan, Ilorin, Kaduna and Kano. The method of percentage cumulative mean rainfall values was employed in the determination
of the rainfall onset and retreat dates.
The results obtained show that both rainfall amount and rainy days are equally effective in the determination of the mean
rainfall onset and retreat dates in Nigeria. With regards to the rainfall onset and retreat dates of the individual years
however, the method based on the rainy days is more effective than that based on rainfall amount, as the former yielded more
realistic dates than the latter. It is thus recommended that studies investigating rainfall onset and retreat dates within
a series of individual years in Nigeria, should be based on rainy days rather than rainfall amount. 相似文献

The solubility of synthetic ZnS(cr) was measured at 25–250 °C and P = 150 bars as a function of pH in aqueous sulfide solutions (~ 0.015–0.15 m of total reduced sulfur). The solubility determinations were performed using a Ti flow-through hydrothermal reactor. The solubility of ZnS(cr) was found to increase slowly with temperature over the whole pH range from 2 to ~ 10. The values of the Zn–S–HS complex stability constant, β, were determined for Zn(HS)20(aq), Zn(HS)3?, Zn(HS)42?, and ZnS(HS)?. Based on the experimental values the Ryzhenko–Bryzgalin electrostatic model parameters for these stability constants were calculated, and the ZnS(cr) solubility and the speciation of Zn in sulfide-containing hydrothermal solutions were evaluated. The most pronounced solubility increase, about 3 log units at m(Stotal) = 0.1 for the temperatures from 25 to 250 °C, was found in acidic solutions (pH ~ 3 to 4) in the Zn(HS)20(aq) predominance field. In weakly alkaline solutions, where Zn(HS)3? and Zn(HS)42? are the dominant Zn–S–HS complexes, the ZnS(cr) solubility increases by 1 log unit at the same conditions. It was found that ZnS(HS)? and especially Zn(HS)42? become less important in high temperature solutions. At 25 °C and m(Stotal) = 0.1, these species dominate Zn speciation at pH > 7. At 100 °C and m(Stotal) = 0.1, the maximum fraction of Zn(HS)42? is only 20% of the total Zn concentration (i.e. at pHt ~ 7.5), whereas at 350 °C and 3 <pHt <10, the fraction of Zn(HS)42? and ZnS(HS)? is less than 0.05% and 2.5% respectively, of the total Zn concentration and Zn(HS)20 and Zn(HS)3? predominate. The measured equilibrium formation constants were combined with the literature data on the stability of Zn–Cl complexes in order to evaluate the concentration and speciation of Zn in chloride solutions. It was found that at acidic pH, and in more saline fluids having total chloride > 0.05 m, Zn–Cl complexes are responsible for hydrothermal Zn transport with no significant contribution of Zn–S–HS complexes. The hydrosulfide/sulfide complexes will play a more important role in lower salinity (< 0.05 m chloride) hydrothermal solutions which are characteristic of many epithermal ore depositing environments. The value of ΔfG° (β-ZnS(cr)) = ? 198.6 ± 0.2 kJ/mol at 25 °C was determined via solubility measurements of natural low-iron Santander (Spain) sphalerite. 相似文献

Multi-anvil press experiments were performed using a single cell assembly containing six different compositions. This set-up allows a careful sampling of the miscibility gap for given P-T conditions. Shrinking of the miscibility gap in the Fe-S-Si system has been studied from 4 to 12 GPa up to 2200 K, demonstrating a stable immiscible zone up to 4 GPa and 2200 K and its closure at higher pressures. Presence of both S and Si in the Earth’s core is suggested by chondritic models. Therefore, its composition is inherited from processes at pressures higher than 4 GPa. This evolution of the Fe-S-Si miscibility gap is linked with the change in the local short-range order in Fe and Fe-S liquids. Our results indicate that core formation under reducing conditions would be affected by immiscibility for planetesimals up to size of the Moon. Furthermore, due to the difference in wetting properties between the two immiscible liquid phases, the S-rich metal phase would control the chemical exchange between liquid metals and silicates during early differentiation in planetesimals. 相似文献

The Portage Lake Lava Series of the Keweenaw Peninsula, northernMichigan, is composed of over 5000 m of tholeiitic lava flows.Chemical and petrologic study of thin undifferentiated flowsfrom this sequence shows that the bulk of the flows are olivinetholeiites; highly ironenriched tholeiites comprise up to 10per cent of the volume. In addition, a few small rhyolitic intrusives,exceedingly rich in alkalis, are exposed in the region. Duringburial the amygdular tops of each flow acted as channelwaysfor migrating fluids during a regional metamorphic event thatproduced a progressive sequence of secondary phases within theflow tops. In the upper part of the stratigraphic section, laumontite,analcime, albite, and chlorite dominate assemblages characteristicof the zeolite facies. Stratigraphically deeper. flow tops arecharacterized by metamorphic assemblages of the prehnite-pumpellyitefacies. Within the higher rank facies, rocks along fractureshave been transformed to calcium-rich monomineralic domains(metadomains) of epidote or pumpellyite. These metadomains gradeoutward through incompletely reconstituted rocks containingalbitized feldspars, and finally, in flow centers, to basaltdisplaying few signs of mineralogical readjustment. Extremechemical disparity exists within the altered flow tops, particularlywith respect to calcium and sodium content. Calculations revealthat bulk compositions of metamorphically adjusted flow topsare similar to unaltered basalts. Thus, the chemical variationdisplayed by the metamorphic rock types resulted from localizedmetamorphic differentiation. The Keweenawan sequence displays progressive dehydration fromthe top to the base of the stratigraphic section. At the topchlorite (H2O = 12 per cent) and pumpellyite (H2O = 6 per cent)metadomains formed by dehydration. The fact that most of theserocks were hydrated strongly suggests that fluid pressures wereless than total pressures during the metamorphic event. In rocksundergoing hydration in the uper part of the stratigraphic section,therefore, water pressures decreased away from channelways.As a result, the most hydrous rock types formed in these regions.Conversely, in rock undergoing dehydration water pressures increasedaway from channelwasys, so that the most dehydrated rocks formedin such regions. The Late Vendian (540–550 Ma) U–Pb zircon age of postcollisional granitoids in the Osinovka Massif was obtained for the first time. The Osinovka Massif is located in rocks of the island-arc complex of the Isakovka Terrane, in the northwestern part of the Sayany–Yenisei accretion belt. These events stand for the final stage of the Neoproterozoic history of the Yenisei Ridge, related to the completing accretion of the oceanic crust fragments and the beginning of the Caledonian orogenesis. The petrogeochemical composition and the Sm–Nd isotopic characteristics support the fact that the granitoid melt originated from a highly differentiated continental crust of the southwestern margin of the Siberian Craton. Hence, the granite-bearing Late Riphean island-arc complexes were thrust over the craton margin at a distance considerably exceeding the dimensions of the Osinovka Massif. 相似文献

A pronounced pollution of surface water bodies in the Western Bug River Basin, Ukraine, has been caused by outdated or overloaded
wastewater treatment plants, agriculture, industry and coal mining. These pressures have led to a generally poor state of
both chemical and microbiological variables creating health risks of various kinds. The state of surface water quality for
the Western Bug and five main tributaries was assessed by measuring physical, chemical and microbiological indicators during
field campaigns in autumn 2009 and spring 2010. Longitudinal profiles were sampled to identify major sources of pollution
and to reveal dominant processes of matter turnover. In addition, the occurrence of antibiotic resistant strains in isolates
from stations along the Bug River was investigated. Results clearly underpin the negative impact of the Poltva River as a
major source of pollution for the Bug River and further outline an elevated potential health risk from pathogenic bacteria
originating from this source. Despite these devastating impacts, a high elimination potential of the Bug River with respect
to primary organic loads as well as elimination of pathogenic bacteria was observed particularly at Dobrotvir Reservoir. Further
downstream, pollution is kept high because of untreated waste effluents and phytoplankton mass developments due to high phosphorus

Upland erosion and the resulting reservoir siltation is a serious issue in the Isábena catchment (445 km2 Central Spanish Pyrenees). During a three‐month period, water and sediment fluxes have been monitored at the catchment outlet (Capella), two adjacent subcatchments (Villacarli, 41 km2; Cabecera, 145 km2) and the elementary badland catchment Torrelaribera (8 ha). This paper presents the results of the monitoring, a method for the calculation of a sedigraph from intermittent measurements and the derived sediment yields at the monitored locations. The observed suspended sediment concentrations (SSCs) demonstrate the role of badlands as sediment sources: SSCs of up to 280 g l?1 were encountered for Villacarli, which includes large badland areas. SSCs at the Cabecera catchment, with great areas of woodland, barely exceeded 30 g l?1. SSCs directly at the sediment source (Torrelaribera) were comparable to those at Villacarli, suggesting a close connection within this subcatchment. At Capella, SSCs of up to 99 g l?1 were observed. For all sites, SSC displayed only a loose correlation with discharge, inhibiting the application of a simple sediment rating curve. Instead, ancillary variables acting as driving forces or proxies for the processes (rainfall energy, cumulative discharge, rising/falling limb data) were included in a quantile regression forest model to explain the variability in SSC. The variables with most predictive power vary between the sites, suggesting the predominance of different processes. The subsequent flood‐based calculation of sediment yields attests high specific sediment yields for Torrelaribera and Villacarli (6277 and 1971 t km?2) and medium to high yields for Cabecera and Capella (139 and 410 t km?2) during the observation period. In all catchments, most of the sediment was exported during intense storms of late summer. Later flood events yield successively less sediment. Stokes polarization profiles of the Mg?b2 5172.68 Å spectral line on two simple sunspots are obtained with the Multi-Channel Solar Telescope (MCST) at the Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS). This is done by means of scanning this line over the wavelength interval from 200 mÅ redward of the line center to 200 mÅ blueward, in steps of 10 mÅ. A generalized analytic solution to the transfer equation for polarized radiation is presented. With a nonlinear least-square fitting technique, the linear calibration coefficients for the low-chromospheric longitudinal magnetic field is obtained in the weak-field case. We also discuss the problems in calibrating the transverse field with this line. It is shown that the weak-field approximation is not applicable to the chromospheric Mg?b2 line for the transverse component of the magnetic field. 相似文献
