We present an identification list for the visible spectra of three B stars: π Cet (B7V), 36 Lyn B8 IIIp (?)),and 134 Tau (B9 IV). Equivalent widths have been measured on medium dispersion plates (7.0 and 12.4 Å mm?1) taken with the 152 cm coudé reflector at the Observatoire de Haute Provence (France). These results are also presented. The photographic plates were digitized by using a PDS 1010A microdensitometer. The spectroscopic data were reduced by means of a dedicated software package and an attempt was made to compute equivalent widths in a homogeneous way. T eff and logg parameters were estimated by using the computer to compare automatically the spectroscopic data with the value of theoretical models.  相似文献

Comparison of Explorer 34 observations on solar protons in the energy range 0.7–55 MeV with similar observations from other spacecrafts show that the large field aligned anisotropies which are observed during the rise time of a flare event change to an equilibrium anisotropy coming radially from the sunward direction due to the convective removal of the solar particles. At very late times during the decay (T 4 days) the anisotropy is observed to be from a direction 45° E of the satellite-Sun line which is interpreted as indicative of positive density gradient of solar cosmic ray population. The dependence of both types of equilibrium anisotropies on the energy and the velocity of the particles and on plasma velocity are shown to be in agreement with the theoretical predictions. The amplitude of the large field aligned anisotropies observed earlier in the event is found to be independent of the rise time of the event and to vary as (Vt)–1.Interplanetary magnetic sector crossings during a flare event, cause abrupt changes in both the amplitude and phase of the non-equilibrium anisotropy whereas they have no significant effect on equilibrium anisotropy. The effect of azimuthal density gradients on the decay time constants of flare enhancements are also examined in an attempt to understand the complicated structures, often observed, in the time intensity profiles at low energies.Part of this work was done while the author was at the University of Texas as Dallas, U.S.A.Now at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C.  相似文献

The electron production rates in the night-time D-region arising from the transit of strong celestial X-ray sources Sco X-1, Tau X-1 and Galactic Center are estimated and compared with the ambient electron production rates resulting from other known stable agencies. Using the experimentally measured values of the night-time electron densities, the number of additional electrons/cc expected from the passage of these sources is computed. For the 164 kHz transmission from Tashkent, received at Ahmedabad, the associated enhancement in the attenuation is calculated using the full wave admittance technique of Barron and Budden. Reasonable agreement is shown to exist between the calculated values of the attenuation and those of direct observations.  相似文献

The paper presents experimental evidence for the existence of fast intensity fluctuations with time scales of the order of a minute in the X-ray emission from Cyg X-1 at energies greater than 29 keV. Spectral variations over time intervals of 20–25 min are also observed in the same energy range. Whereas, similar intensity and spectral fluctuations have been reported earlier at lower energies the observations presented here is the first evidence for the existence of similar fluctuations at high energies.  相似文献

Ultraviolet spectra of seven comets taken with the same instrument are presented. Comets P/Encke (1980), P/Tuttle (1980 h), P/Stephan-Oterma (1980 g), and Meier (1980 q) were observed during November-December 1980 with the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) satellite observatory, while comets P/Borrelly (1980 i) and Panther (1980 u) were observed with IUE on 6 March 1981. The spectra of these comets are compared with those of comet Bradfield (1979 X), studied extensively earlier in 1980 with IUE, as well as with each other. In order to simplify the interpretation of the data and to minimize the dependence upon a specific model, the spectra are compared at approximately the same value of heliocentric distance whenever possible. Effects due to heliocentric velocity, geocentric distance, and optical depth are also discussed. All of the cometary spectra are remarkably similar, which suggests that these comets may have a common composition and origin.  相似文献

Rocket measurements, of the diffuse X-ray background in the energy range 2–18 keV, conducted from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), India, are presented. The estimates of the cosmic background are derived by the method which employs the Earth and its atmosphere as a shutter to intercept the celestial X-rays. The results are shown to be consistent with a power law photon spectrum.13.6 –3.3 +4.3 E –1.73±0.15 photons/cm2-sec-keV-ster the spectrum being much flatter than that observed at higher energies.  相似文献

The Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE) has been involved in the processing of combined GPS/GLONASS data during the International GLONASS Experiment (IGEX). The resulting precise orbits were analyzed using the program SORBDT. Introducing one satellites positions as pseudo-observations, the program is capable of fitting orbital arcs through these positions using an orbit improvement procedure based on the numerical integration of the satellites orbit and its partial derivative with respect to the orbit parameters. For this study, the program was enhanced to estimate selected parameters of the Earths gravity field. The orbital periods of the GPS satellites are —in contrast to those of the GLONASS satellites – 2:1 commensurable (P Sid:P GPS) with the rotation period of the Earth. Therefore, resonance effects of the satellite motion with terms of the geopotential occur and they influence the estimation of these parameters. A sensitivity study of the GPS and GLONASS orbits with respect to the geopotential coefficients reveals that the correlations between different geopotential coefficients and the correlations of geopotential coefficients with other orbit parameters, in particular with solar radiation pressure parameters, are the crucial issues in this context. The estimation of the resonant geopotential terms is, in the case of GPS, hindered by correlations with the simultaneously estimated radiation pressure parameters. In the GLONASS case, arc lengths of several days allow the decorrelation of the two parameter types. The formal errors of the estimates based on the GLONASS orbits are a factor of 5 to 10 smaller for all resonant terms. A series of high structural state plagioclases (Ab-An) was crystallized from glasses. By exchanging Na for K in KCl melts, metastable K-plagioclases (Or-An) were prepared which possess the same structural state as the starting plagioclases. Both series were investigated at 980 K by lead borate solution calorimetry. Continuing the ideas of Carpenter and McConnell (1984) and Carpenter (1992a), the results can be interpreted as follows. In the high plagioclase series, the enthalpies of solution, jHsol, reflect the schemes of Al,Si ordering: (1) analbite-like (C2/m) ordering in the An-poor region 0hXAnА.2, (2) high albite-like (C1¥) ordering in intermediate plagioclases, and (3) anorthite-like (I1¥) ordering in the An-rich region 0.7AnБ. In regions 1 and 2, jHsol decreases as a function of XAn, but increases in region 3 as a consequence of the C1¥MI1¥ ordering reaction. Therefore, it is not a mixing effect but a compositionally restricted ordering effect which causes the excess enthalpies, jHex, to be positive in the plagioclase binary as a whole. Neglecting the existence of phase transitions at XAn=0.2 and XAn=0.7, jHex can be approximated by a two-parameter Margules model yielding WHAnAb=14Dž kJ/mol and WHAbAn=40Dž kJ/mol. jHsol values of I1¥ plagioclases (XAn>0.7) can be "corrected" for the C1¥MI1¥ ordering effect (Carpenter 1992a). When combining the corrected values with the jHsol data which were actually measured on the C1¥ plagioclases (XAn<0.7), negative excess enthalpies are generated in the plagioclase binary. This may be expected when C1¥ ordering occurs relative to topochemically monoclinic reference states of analbite and hypothetical anorthite devoid of I1¥ order. The solution experiments on the K-plagioclases resulted in similar characteristics as those found for the plagioclases. However, in addition to the ordering effects observed in the plagioclase binary, volume mismatch effects contribute to jHex in the K-plagioclase series. jHex can be represented by a Margules model with WHAnOr=60ᆞ kJ/mol and WHOrAn=91ᆢ kJ/mol when the phase transitions at XAn=0.2 and XAn=0.7 are again neglected. The contribution of the volume mismatch effect to jHex is considerable, as appears from the large difference between the K-plagioclase and the plagioclase Margules parameters. Their difference corresponds to a practically symmetrical dependence of jHexvolmism on composition, with WHvolmism=48ᆡ kJ/mol.  相似文献

We detected the resonance lithium doublet, 7LiI λ6708, in the spectra of the symbiotic Mira V407 Cyg (P≈763d) obtained with a resolution R = λ/Δλ ≈ 18 500. The line equivalent width is ~0.34 Å. The presence of lithium in the atmosphere of the Mira, which, judging by its period, appreciably ascended the asymptotic giant branch (AGB), can be explained by the penetration of its convective envelope into the hot-bottom-burning (HBB) hydrogen-shell source. At the same time, the spectrum of V407 Cyg does not reveal the ZrO λ5551, 6474 absorption bands, which are used to classify S-type stars from low-resolution spectra. We found only weak ZrO λ5718, 6412 bands, which are, however, invisible in low-resolution spectra. Thus, the Mira star V407 Cyg should be classified as being of the spectral type M. In general, the spectrum of V407 Cyg is similar to the spectrum of the red giant in the symbiotic star CH Cyg, but the latter exhibits no lithium lines. The switch-on of the HBB process without any significant enrichment of the atmosphere of an AGB star with s-process elements implies that the third dredge-up is not efficient for some of these stars.  相似文献
