Glacier recessions caused by climate change may uncover pro‐glacial lakes that form important sedimentation basins regulating the downstream sediment delivery. The impact of modern pro‐glacial lakes on fluvial sediment transport from three different Norwegian glaciers: Nigardsbreen, Engabreen and Tunsbergdalsbreen, and their long‐term development has been studied. All of these lakes developed in modern times in overdeepened bedrock basins. The recession of Nigardsbreen uncovered a 1.8 km long and on average 15 m deep pro‐glacial lake basin during 1937 to 1968. Since then the glacier front has been situated entirely on land, and the sediment input and output of the lake has been measured. The suspended sediment transport into and out of the lake averaged 11 730 t yr?1 and 2340 t yr?1 respectively. Thus, 20% remained in suspension at the outlet. The measured mean annual bedload supplied to the lake was 11 800 t yr?1, giving a total transport of 23 530 t yr?1 which corresponds to a specific sediment yield of 561 t km?2 yr?1. A 1.9 km long and up to 90 m deep pro‐glacial lake basin downstream from Engabreen glacier was uncovered during 1890 to 1944. The average suspended sediment load delivered from the glacier during the years 1970–1981 amounted to 12 375 t yr?1and the transport out of the lake was 2021 t yr?1, giving an average of 16% remaining in suspension. The mean annual bedload was 8000 t yr?1, thus the total transport was 20 375 t yr?1, giving a specific sediment yield of 566 t km?2 yr?1. For Tunsbergdalsbreen glacier, measurements in the early 1970s indicated that the suspended sediment transport was on average 44 000 t yr?1. From 1987 to 1993 the recession of the glacier uncovered a small pro‐glacial lake, 0.3 km long and around 9 m deep. Downstream from this, the suspended sediment load measured in 2009 was 28 000 t yr?1, indicating that as much as 64% remained in suspension. Flow velocity, grain size of sediment, and morphology of the lake are important factors controlling the sedimentation rate in the pro‐glacial lakes. A survey of the sub‐glacial morphology of Tunsbergdalsbreen revealed that there are several overdeepened basins beneath the glacier. The largest is 4 km long and 100 m deep. When the glacier melts back they will become lakes and act as sedimentation basins. Despite an expected increase in sediment yield from the glacier, little sediment will pass these lakes and downstream sediment delivery will be reduced markedly. The direct detection of accretion onto massive protostars through rotating disks constitutes an important tile in the massive-star-formation-theory
mosaic. This task is however observationally very challenging. A very interesting example is Cepheus A HW2. The properties
of the molecular emission around this YSO seems to suggest the presence of a massive rotating disk (cf. Patel et al. in Nature
437:109, 2005). We have carried out sub-arcsec-resolution PdBI observations of high-density and shock tracers such as SO2, SiO, CH3CN, and CH3OH towards the center of the outflow. A detailed analysis of the spatial distribution and of the velocity field traced by
all observed species leads us to conclude that, on a ∼700 AU scale, the Cep-A “disk” is actually the result of the superposition
of multiple hot-core-type objects, at least one of them ejecting an outflow at a small angle with respect to the line of sight.
Together with the well-known large-scale outflow ejected by HW2, this setup makes for a very complex spatial and kinematic
picture.

We present a geostatistically based inverse model for characterizing heterogeneity in parameters of unsaturated hydraulic
conductivity for three-dimensional flow. Pressure and moisture content are related to perturbations in hydraulic parameters
through cross-covariances, which are calculated to first-order. Sensitivities needed for covariance calculations are derived
using the adjoint state sensitivity method. Approximations of the conditional mean parameter fields are then obtained from
the cokriging estimator. Correlation between parameters and pressure – moisture content perturbations is seen to be strongly
dependent on mean pressure or moisture content. High correlation between parameters and pressure data was obtained under saturated
or near saturated flow conditions, providing accurate estimation of saturated hydraulic conductivity, while moisture content
measurements provided accurate estimation of the pore size distribution parameter under unsaturated flow conditions. 相似文献

This paper investigates the kinetics of biogenic silica dissolution in seawater, through batch dissolution, where the reaction
is observed as the increase in dissolved silicic acid concentration with time. It utilises new data from dissolution of the
marine diatom Cyclotella cryptica, and the freshwater diatom C. meneghiniana, as well as literature results. The sum of exponentials form:
, is hypothesised as the most general rate equation, with the single exponential form occurring in a minority of cases. The
consistency of this behaviour with a near-exponential decay of surface area with time, an appropriate mathematical integration,
and surface heterogeneity, is discussed. (Serious errors in some existing integrations are identified.) The rate of dissolution
at constant surface area is shown to decrease non-linearly as the ambient concentration of silicic acid increases. A fractional
order with respect to silicic acid in the back reaction, close to 0.5, leads to a mechanism in which an intermediate is formed
from the surface and an, as yet, unidentified molecule, probably water. Good preliminary fits are found between the model
and literature results found using entirely different methods. A parallel treatment of hydrogen ion dependency is suggested.
The likely distortion of full reaction curves from exponential behaviour imposed by the back reaction, is considered in detail. 相似文献

This paper presents results of a trial of a Pisces HF radar system aimed at assessing its use as a component of a wave-monitoring network being installed around the coasts of England and Wales. The radar system has been operating since December 2003 and the trial continued to June 2005. The data have been processed in near-real time and displayed on a website. Radar measurements of the directional spectrum and derived parameters are compared with those measured with a directional waverider and with products from the Met Office, United Kingdom, operational wave model. Radar measurements of currents and winds are also compared with Met Office model products and, in the case of winds, with the QuikSCAT scatterometer. Statistics on data availability and accuracy are presented. The results demonstrate that useful availability and accuracy in wave and wind parameters are obtained above a waveheight threshold of 2 m and at ranges up to 120 km at the radar operating frequencies (7-10 MHz) used. Waveheight measurements above about 1 m can be made with reasonable accuracy (e.g., mean difference of 2.5% during January-February 2004). Period and direction parameters in low seas are often contaminated by noise in the radar signal. The possibility of observing satellites with the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) technique has been discussed for several years in the geodetic community, with observations of either existing satellites of the global navigation satellite systems or of satellites dedicated to realise a space tie. Such observations were carried out using the Australian telescopes in Hobart and Ceduna which, for the first time, integrated all the necessary steps: planning the observations (automated scheduling), correlation of the data and the generation of a series of time delay observables suitable for a subsequent geodetic analysis. We report on the development of new and the adaptation of existing routines for observing and data processing, focusing on technology development. The aim was to use methods that are routinely used in geodetic VLBI. A series of test experiments of up to six hours duration was performed, allowing to improve the observations from session to session and revealing new problems still to be solved. The newly developed procedures and programs now enable more observations. Further development assumed, this bears the prospect of being directly applied to the observation of dedicated space-tie satellites. 相似文献

Since 1993 it is known that there is a good correlation between the scintillation in the solar irradiance and solar image quality (Seykora, 1993). This effect is now being used in a number of experiments to evaluate solar image quality and to measure site seeing.
