Time-sequences of line profile data have been subjected to a unique analysis which produces an amplitude and phase of the velocity and intensity at several line depths for each time sample and spatial point on the Sun. The data have been filtered to pass only the frequencies and spatial wavenumbers of the 5-min band. Yet, a secondary oscillation emerges, the phase of which propagates downward. Empirical eigenfunctions for velocity and intensity are given, and the kinetic energy flux is computed.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The 1356 Basel earthquake was the strongest event to have shaken NW Europe in the last thousand years. The peculiar location of this historical event makes it possible to relate it to normal faulting along the edges of the Rhine Graben, as well as to reverse faulting along the Jura frontal thrust or to fault reactivation within the Hercynian basement. Alternate hypotheses are discussed and their implications compared taking into account available structural data and results of the morphotectonic study performed in the epicentral area. This study combines field observations with the analysis of SPOT satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and detailed topography. It is concluded that the Basel earthquake most probably reactivated a basement fault (reverse or wrench fault) beneath the shallow-depth aseismic detachment that underlies the Jura Mountains.  相似文献

The eastern edge of the Djerba Island represents an important tourist pole. However, studies describing the environmental processes affecting this Island are scarce. Although never studied before, the peculiar Djerba lagoon is well known by the local population and by tourists. In July 2014, surface sediment and seawater samples were collected in this lagoon to measure grain size, organic matter content and living foraminiferal assemblages to describe environmental conditions. Seawater samples were also collected and the concentration of 17 chemical elements were measured by ICP-OES. The results show that a salinity gradient along the studied transect clearly impacts seagrass distribution, creating different environmental conditions inside the Djerba lagoon. Biotic and abiotic parameters reflect a transitional environment from hypersaline to normal marine conditions. Living benthic foraminifera show an adaptation to changing conditions within the different parts of the lagoon. In particular, the presence of Ammonia spp. and Haynesina depressula correlates with hypersaline waters, whilst Brizalina striatula characterizes the parts of the lagoon colonized by seagrass. Epifaunal species, such as Rosalina vilardeboana and Amphistegina spp. colonize hard substrata present at the transition between the lagoon and the open sea.  相似文献

Abstract

Agricultural land use in the area of water bodies is generally considered to increase the nutrient status of the water body water and sediments, but is this also the case for already nutrient-rich fish ponds? We studied 83 fish ponds in the Dombes region, France, where 1100 ponds are located in a heterogeneous agricultural landscape. Different water and sediment parameters were analysed for ponds and in ditches after rainfall events. Land use was studied in the primary catchment of ponds and in a 100-m zone around ponds. Soil parameters of different land-use types were analysed and farmers interviewed about agricultural practices. Increasing cropping area in the catchment of the ponds is significantly correlated to higher PO4 3- concentration of pond water and to a lower degree, also to NO3 ?, but only in certain years with higher rainfall and with a more uneven distribution in spring. Sediment parameters were not significantly influenced. High NO3- concentration in the water of a ditch during significant rainfall events was found for a cropland dominated catchment.

Abstract– We analyzed cosmogenic He and Ne in more than 60 individual chondrules separated from small chips from the carbonaceous chondrites Allende and Murchison. The goal of this work is to search for evidence of an exposure of chondrules to energetic particles—either solar or galactic—prior to final compaction of their host chondrites and prior to the exposure of the meteoroids to galactic cosmic rays (GCR) on their way to Earth. Production rates of GCR‐produced He and Ne are calculated for each chondrule based on major element composition and a physical model of cosmogenic nuclide production in carbonaceous chondrites ( Leya and Masarik 2009 ). All studied chondrules in Allende show nominal exposure ages identical to each other within uncertainties of a few hundred thousand years. Allende chondrules therefore show no signs of a precompaction exposure. The majority of the Murchison chondrules (the “normal” chondrules) also have nominal exposure ages identical within a few hundred thousand years. However, roughly 20% of the studied Murchison chondrules (the “pre‐exposed” chondrules) contain considerably or even much higher concentrations of cosmogenic noble gases than the normal chondrules, equivalent to exposure ages to GCR at present‐day fluxes in a 4π irradiation of up to about 30 Myr. The data do not allow to firmly conclude whether these excesses were acquired by an exposure of the pre‐exposed chondrules to an early intense flux of solar energetic particles (solar cosmic rays) or rather by an exposure to GCR in the regolith of the Murchison parent asteroid. However, we prefer the latter explanation. Two major reasons are the GCR‐like isotopic composition of the excess Ne and the distribution of solar flare tracks in Murchison samples.  相似文献

A multidisciplinary approach involving various remote sensing instruments is used to investigate Apollinaris Mons, a prominent volcano on Mars, as well as the surrounding plains for signs of prolonged hydrologic and volcanic, and possibly hydrothermal activity. The main findings include (1) evidence from laser altimetry indicating the large thickness (1.5–2 km at some locations) of the fan deposits draping the southern flank contrary to previous estimates, coupled with possible layering which point to a significant emplacement phase at Apollinaris Mons, (2) corroboration of Robinson et al. (Robinson, M.S., Mouginis-Mark, P.J., Zimbelman, J.R., Wu, S.S.C., Ablin, K.K., Howington-Kraus, A.E. [1993]. Icarus 104, 301–323) hypothesis regarding the formation of incised valleys on the western flanks by density current erosion which would indicate magma–water interaction or, alternatively, volatile-rich magmas early in the volcano’s history, (3) mounds of diverse geometric shapes, many of which display summit depressions and occur among faults and fractures, possibly marking venting, (4) strong indicators on the flanks of the volcano for lahar events, and possibly, a caldera lake, (5) ubiquitous presence of impact craters displaying fluidized ejecta in both shield-forming (flank and caldera) materials and materials that surround the volcano that are indicative of water-rich target materials at the time of impact, (6) long-term complex association in time among shield-forming materials and Medusae Fossae Formation.The findings point to a site of extensive volcanic and hydrologic activity with possibly a period of magma–water interaction and hydrothermal activity. Finally, we propose that the mound structures around Apollinaris should be prime targets for further in situ exploration and search for possible exobiological signatures.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we process diachronic SPOT satellite images acquired with different viewing angles in order to assess the aerosol optical thickness (AOT) spatial distribution over Brescia.

This urban area, located in Northern Italy, is subject to frequent visibility‐reducing smog episodes. AOT was calculated by using the Differential Textural Analysis (DTA) code on a satellite data series consisting by one pollution‐free and various pollution‐loaded SPOT images. The resulting maps showed the horizontal distribution of AOT with a resolution of 500 metres. These maps can be readily integrated with the results obtained by mesoscale modelling, ground measurements, and respond to local scale application requirements. Satellite AOT retrieval compared successfully with available AOT ground‐based measurements and with pollution measurements in the ambient air. In this study the use of diachronic multiangle SPOT imagery allowed us to analyse the effect of the viewing angle variation on AOT retrieval accuracy based on the contrast reduction method.  相似文献

Abstract

Daily precipitation data from 31 Senegalese stations spanning the period from 1950 to 2007 were used to examine the inter-annual variations of seven rainfall indices: the annual mean precipitation (MEAN); the annual standard deviation of daily precipitation (STD); the frequency of wet days (Prcp1); the maximum number of consecutive dry days (CDD); the maximum 3-day rainfall total (R3D); the wet day precipitation intensity (SDII); and the 90th percentile of rain-day precipitation (Prec90p). The indices were spatially averaged over three agro-climatic regions in Senegal. Trends in the time series of the averaged indices were assessed using both visual examination and a modified version of the Mann-Kendall (MM-K) test. Initially negative significant trends in all seven indices suggest gradually drier conditions over the three agro-climatic regions between 1950 and 1980. In contrast, no significant trends, or even positive significant trends, were observed from the mid-1980s to 2007. The MM-K test was applied to all available data (1950–2007) and the period from 1971 to 2000. While several indices were found to have significant trends towards drier conditions for the 1950–2007 period, only PRCP1 showed a positive significant trend for the 1971–2000 period. The MM-K test did not detect a significant trend for the other indices. It was found that the rainfall deficit and therefore drought is no longer intensifying, and that the region may even become wetter. However, the period covered by the observations is still too short to resolve the question of whether there is now a trend towards wetter conditions.
