This paper presents an energy‐consistent approach for reducing the number of degrees‐of‐freedom (DOFs) in tall steel frames. In the present approach, the moment resistance of beams and columns in each story is represented by the moment resistance of a rotational spring and a beam‐column element, respectively. The shear resistance provided by braces in each story is represented by the shear resistance of a shear spring. Furthermore, the resistance to the overturning moment provided by axial resistance of columns in each story is represented by the moment resistance of a rotational spring. These representations are carried out by achieving the equivalence between the strain energy stored and dissipated in the elements in the full (unreduced) DOF models and the strain energy stored and dissipated in the corresponding elements in the reduced DOF models. The accuracy of the present approach is demonstrated through numerical examples, which compare the results of nonlinear time history analyses obtained using the full and reduced DOF models. In the numerical examples, the response is estimated for 20‐story and 40‐story steel frames with and without buckling‐restraint braces subjected to a suite of near‐fault and far‐fault ground motions. The present approach is useful in estimating the response of tall steel frames having non‐regular member arrangements to a suite of intense ground motions including near‐fault ones, where it is crucial to capture the influence of higher mode effects on collapse mechanisms. A simple effective method of inverse estimation provided by model Green’s functions is examined to calibrate tides in a regional circulation model for the East Asian marginal seas. The Green’s function optimization derived by perturbing the model parameters significantly improves the estimate relative to observation as compared with baseline integration. Among the optimized model parameters, the largest effects on cost function reduction come first from the harmonic constant of M2 along the open boundaries with the optimized values of 89.7 ± 0.8% for amplitude, and second from the bottom friction with the optimized value of (3.06 ± 0.08) × 10−3.  相似文献

The linear analysis of the instability due to vertical shear in the dust layer of the solar nebula is performed. The following assumptions are adopted throughout this paper: (1) The self-gravity of the dust layer is neglected. (2) One fluid model is adopted, where the dust aggregates have the same velocity with the gas due to strong coupling by the drag force. (3) The gas is incompressible. The calculations with both the Coriolis and the tidal forces show that the tidal force has a stabilizing effect. The tidal force causes the radial shear in the disk. This radial shear changes the wave number of the mode which is at first unstable, and the mode is eventually stabilized. Thus the behavior of the mode is divided into two stages: (1) the first growth of the unstable mode which is similar to the results without the tidal force, and (2) the subsequent stabilization due to an increase of the wave number by the radial shear. If the midplane dust/gas density ratio is smaller than 2, the stabilization occurs before the unstable mode grows largely. On the other hand, the mode grows faster by one hundred orders of magnitude, if this ratio is larger than 20. Because the critical density of the gravitational instability is a few hundreds times as large as the gas density, the hydrodynamic instability investigated in this paper grows largely before the onset of the gravitational instability. It is expected that the hydrodynamic instability develops turbulence in the dust layer and the dust aggregates are stirred up to prevent from settling further. The formation of planetesimals through the gravitational instabilities is difficult to occur as long as the dust/gas surface density ratio is equal to that for the solar abundance. On the other hand, the shear instability is suppressed and the planetesimal formation through the gravitational instability may occur, if dust/gas surface density ratio is hundreds times as large as that for the solar abundance.  相似文献

The binary confusion noise spectrum in the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna ( LISA ) band depends strongly on the observational period and abundance of Galactic close white dwarf binaries (CWDBs). We have investigated how the number of the resolved Galactic CWDBs varies with the operation period of LISA , and found that the resolved number would typically grow by a factor of 5 when the operation period increases from 1 to 10 yr. We have also made a similar estimation for the number of CWDBs, the chirp signal of which can be measured using matched filtering analysis.  相似文献

We extend the formalism for the calculation of the relativistic corrections to the Sunyaev–Zel'dovich effect for clusters of galaxies and include the multiple scattering effects in the isotropic approximation. We present the results of the calculations by the Fokker–Planck expansion method as well as by the direct numerical integration of the collision term of the Boltzmann equation. The multiple scattering contribution is found to be very small compared with the single scattering contribution. For high-temperature galaxy clusters of     the ratio of both the contributions is −0.2 per cent in the Wien region. In the Rayleigh–Jeans region the ratio is −0.03 per cent. Therefore the multiple scattering contribution is safely neglected for the observed galaxy clusters.  相似文献
