In hydrological modelling, the challenge is to identify an optimal strategy to exploit tools and available observations in order to enhance model reliability. The increasing availability of data promotes the use of new calibration techniques able to make use of additional information on river basins. In the present study, a lumped hydrological model—designed with the aim of utilizing remotely sensed data—is introduced and calibrated, adopting four different schemes that adopt, to varying extents, available physical information. The physically consistent conceptualization of the hydrological model used allowed development of a step by step calibration based on a combination of information, such as remotely sensed data describing snow cover, recession curves obtained from streamflow measurements, and time series of surface run‐off obtained with a baseflow mathematical filter applied to the streamflow time‐series. Results suggest that the use of physical information in the calibration procedure tends to increase model reliability with respect to approaches where the parameters are calibrated using an overall statistic based, considerably or exclusively, on streamflow data. 相似文献

Accurate representation of groundwater-surface water interactions is critical to modeling low river flows in the semi-arid southwestern United States. Although a number of groundwater-surface water models exist, they are seldom integrated with river operation/management models. A link between the object-oriented river and reservoir operations model, RiverWare, and the groundwater model, MODFLOW, was developed to incorporate groundwater-surface water interaction processes, such as river seepage/gains, riparian evapotranspiration, and irrigation return flows, into a rule-based water allocations model. An explicit approach is used in which the two models run in tandem, exchanging data once in each computational time step. Because the MODFLOW grid is typically at a finer resolution than RiverWare objects, the linked model employs spatial interpolation and summation for compatible communication of exchanged variables. The performance of the linked model is illustrated through two applications in the Middle Rio Grande Basin in New Mexico where overappropriation impacts endangered species habitats. In one application, the linked model results are compared with historical data; the other illustrates use of the linked model for determining management strategies needed to attain an in-stream flow target. The flows predicted by the linked model at gauge locations are reasonably accurate except during a few very low flow periods when discrepancies may be attributable to stream gaging uncertainties or inaccurate documentation of diversions. The linked model accounted for complex diversions, releases, groundwater pumpage, irrigation return flows, and seepage between the groundwater system and canals/drains to achieve a schedule of releases that satisfied the in-stream target flow. 相似文献

Recent observations of the rotation curves of large disk galaxies of all Hubble-types have shown that they possess flat or slowly rising rotation curves up to large distances from the centre. It has been suggested here that such rotation curves are understood under normal fluid dynamical considerations provided that viscous (and/or magnetic) transfer of mass and angular momentum from inner to outer regions of these galaxies is efficient. Flow of gas from halo to the disk in regions close to the axis of rotation is also suggested. The existence of rising rotation curves in some galaxies with varying gradients and flat rotation curves in others suggest that probably these galaxies are not coeval. The plume of particulate DNA (0.7–1g/l) was extended from a black smoker vent (c.a. 1340 m depth) to the west-southwest directions in the Izena bottom-water region. High concentrations of particulate materials (70–110 g C/l; 300–570 g S/l) were also detected in the bottom-waters. Microscopic observation showed that the bottom-waters were rich in alcian blue-stainable large amorphous particles which contained coccoid and rod-shaped microbial cells mostly smaller than 1m. These microbial matrix compounds appeared to contribute to low P-DNA/P-C ratio (0.011±0.008;n=27) in the vent environment. Sulfur was detected in various kinds of particles in the waters, while the content varied with calcium. Microbial population in the P-DNA plume water was in the order of 105 cells/ml and the most (>99.9%) were non-culturable. The composition of culturable heterotrophs differed between the bottom-waters and surface sediments surrounding the vent; contributions of low temperature (4°C)-culturable bacteria and manganese-oxidizing bacteria to the total heterotrophs were higher in the sediments than in the waters. In contrast, percentages of orange-pigmented heterotrophs and microorganisms capable of growing in thiosulfate- and ammonia-based media to the total heterotrophs were higher in the waters than in the sediments. These results suggest that the culturable bacterial community in the bottom-waters was nutritionally versatile. Izena hydrothermal activities seemed to have a great influence in concentrations and compositions of particulate mateirals and in biomass and compositions of microbial community in the vicinity of this aphotic deep-sea environment. 相似文献

Abstract. Mt. Asahidake is an active volcano, with more than 90 active wells, in the Daisetsu volcanic group located in central Hokkaido, Japan. Wells along the Yukomanbetsu-sawa River showed high manganese concentrations and associated manganese deposits. These deposits consist of manganese oxides, and the concentration of iron is very low except for one sample collected from the upper reach of the river. Most of the wet samples showed basal diffraction characteristic of todorokite (9.6 Å). Cultivation tests showed that microorganisms were responsible for the oxidation of dissolved Mn2+ in the Asahidake hot spring. The dissolved Mn2+ concentration in the sterilized hot spring water was unchanged after four days, whereas the Mn2+ concentration in the sterilized hot spring water with a small amount of fresh manganese wad was decreased to zero after three days, and manganese oxide formed. This result implies that the activity of microorganism oxidizes dissolved Mn2+ and forms manganese oxide at the Asahidake manganese deposits. In addition to Komanoyu hot spring and Yunotaki Falls, this is the third report of microbial activity forming considerable deposits of manganese oxides in hot spring waters. 相似文献

Observations of mesospheric winds over a period of four years with the partial reflection radar at Tirunelveli (8.7°N, 77.8°E), India, are presented in this study. The emphasis is on describing seasonal variabilities in mean zonal and meridional winds in the altitude region 70–98 km. The meridional winds exhibit overall transequatorial flow associated with differential heating in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. At lower altitudes (70–80 km) the mean zonal winds reveal easterly flow during summer and westerly flow during winter, as expected from a circulation driven by solar forcing. In the higher altitude regime (80–98 km) and at all altitudes during equinox periods, the mean zonal flow is subjected to the semi-annual oscillation (SAO). The interannual variability detected in the occurrence of SAO over Tirunelveli has also been observed in the data sets obtained from the recent UARS satellite mission. Harmonic analysis results over a period of two years indicate the presence of long-period oscillations in the mean zonal wind at specific harmonic periods near 240, 150 and 120 days. The Indian Antarctic station Maitri (geog. 70‡45’S, 11‡45’E, geom. 66‡.03S, 53‡.21E) occupies a sub-auroral location during
magnetically quiet conditions(Σκρ < 10), but attains an auroral position when the auroral oval shifts equatorwards with increasing strength of magnetic disturbance.
At the latter times, triangulation with 3 fluxgate magnetometers located at the vertices of a suitable triangle provides a
means of monitoring mobile auroral ionospheric current systems over Maitri. The spacing between the magnetometers is typically
kept at 75–200 km, keeping in mind the scale-sizes of ∼ 100 km for these mobile current systems. This work reports the results
of two triangulation experiments carried out around Maitri in January 1992 and January 1995, both during Antarctic summer.
The velocities estimated for pulsations of the Pc4 and Pc5 type were about 0.59 km/sec in the direction 102‡.7 east of due
north, in the first case, and about 1–3 km/sec in the second case in the east-west direction.
While several magnetometer arrays exist in the northern auroral regions (e.g., the Alberta array in Canada, the Alaskan array
in the U.S. and the IMS Scandinavian array), there is no report in literature of triangulation through arrays in Antarctica,
except for a one-day study by Neudegget al 1995 for ULF pulsations of the Pc1 and Pc2 type. The velocities obtained for the Pi3 type of irregular pulsations over Antarctica
in the present study tally well with those obtained for northern auroral locations. 相似文献

The objective of this paper is to provide an analytical basis for the quantitative evaluation of damage to a reinforced concrete
structure based on the vibration data obtained by using the damage detection technique. A partial reinforced concrete system
of a weak beam/strong column moment frame is chosen as an example. A pushover analysis is carried out in order to numerically
examine both the story shear-relative displacement characteristics and the associated damage level. In the analysis, a two
dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis is employed considering several constitutive models. As a result, the degradation
of the stiffness at the damaged story is characterized in association with the story relative displacement. It is also pointed
out that the rotation angle of the column-base is highly correlated with the story relative displacement. Based on the analytical
findings, quantitative approaches for a structural health monitoring system are suggested considering both the current sensor
technologies and those available in the future.
