Four specimens of the thyasirid Conchocele bisecta (Conrad) and one small specimen of the vesicomyid Hubertschenckia ezoensis (Yokoyama), each with a drill hole made by a naticid gastropod, were found at a cold‐seep site in the upper Eocene Poronai Formation of Hokkaido. This is apparently the oldest record not only of drill holes, but also of predation scars, in a cold‐seep fauna. In addition, drilled vesicomyids are known from several Miocene cold‐seep sites in Japan. We suggest that the Eocene and Miocene chemoautotrophic bivalves were drilled only in the shallow‐water settings preferred by most naticids. The lack of drill holes in Oligocene chemoautotrophic bivalves in the northwestern USA suggests that this innovation, which allowed naticids to prey upon highly toxic bivalves, first appeared in the western Pacific during the Eocene.  相似文献

Eight-year observation results of DIC from 1996 to 2003 in the Oyashio region have been analyzed to obtain a climatological view of its seasonal variation and interannual variation. Data of DIC obtained by several institutes are synthesized to give a dataset with an uncertainty lower than 5 μmol/kg. The obtained climatology of NDIC seasonal variation in the Oyashio mixed layer shows a seasonal amplitude of 176 μmol/kg, with a maximum in January and a minimum in September. These features closely resemble those observed in the southern half of the western subarctic North Pacific (WSNP) including Station KNOT, although the timing of the NDIC maximum is slightly advanced in the case of the Oyashio. Analysis using a quasi-conservative tracer Cp0 (NDIC - 106NP) shows that among 176 μmol/kg of NDIC seasonal variation, only 16 μmol/kg is attributed to hydrographic processes while the remaining 160 μmol/kg is attributed to biological processes. The Cp0 value in the Oyashio mixed layer also resembles that of the WSNP mixed layer during the months May to November, suggesting further resemblance of the Oyashio water mass to that of WSNP in terms of carbon dynamics. The present results also suggest that a single data obtained in Oyashio mixed layer contains 30 μmol/kg of potential uncertainty for the representativity of this region, which leads to a note about a need to treat with caution results obtained by a single observation in this region.  相似文献

Clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene megacrysts containing garnet lamellae up to 1.2 mm thick as an exsolved phase are found rarely in kimberlites from Frank Smith and Bellsbank. Chemically the clinopyroxenes are characteristically subcalcic, being within the range of 100 Ca/Ca + Mg + Fe = 27 to 36, and the orthopyroxenes are characterized by high Al2O3 and Cr2O3. Immediately after crystallization during very slow cooling, clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene exsolve wide-spaced orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene phases parallel to (100) of the host phases, respectively, then both host and exsolved phases exsolve garnet lamellae. Topotactic relations between pyroxenes and garnet are determined by X-ray for the first time. Partitioning of major and minor elements among the coexisting clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and garnet in pyroxene megacrysts is the same as that of the granular-type garnet peridotite xenoliths in Lesotho and South African kimberlies. Mineralogy and chemistry indicate that subcalcic clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene megacrysts contain respectively about 10 and 3 mole % of the garnet molecule in solid solution.  相似文献

The relation of magma and crustal activity has been studied from spatial distribution of 3He/4He ratios of gas and/or water samples over the Izu Peninsula, where significant crustal deformation associated with seismic swarm activities has been observed since 1970s. The air-corrected values of 3He/4He ratios ranged from 3.5 to 8.2 RA, where RA is the atmospheric 3He/4He ratio = 1.4 × 10? 6, indicating that helium is mostly of magmatic origin. Among the three pressure sources proposed to explain the crustal deformation, two inflation sources beneath the inland of northeast and the mid east coast of the Izu Peninsula locate in the broad distribution of high 3He/4He ratios, which supports relation of magma to the crustal uplift. In contrast, the distribution of 3He/4He ratios around the tensile fault assumed in the area of seismic swarms appears not to indicate existence of significant amount of magma below the tensile fault. Alternatively, the results suggest magma below a point several kilometers south of the tensile fault. The seismic swarms are explained either by fluid pressurization of thermal water heated by this magma or by intrusion of magma to the tensile fault moved obliquely from the deep magma reservoir.  相似文献

Liquid-liquid extraction and electrokinetic studies show that both the talc particles and the isooctane droplets are affected by the presence of hydrolysable metal species of Al(III) and Cr(III). The inherent lipophilicity of talc is unchanged by the hydroxo complexes of these metal species, while positive shifts in zeta potentials of talc and isooctane take place due partly to the strong adsorption of these hydroxo complexes. In the pH range where the hydroxide precipitates, the talc particles are rendered hydrophillic between the precipitation pH and the point-of-zero charge of the metal hydroxide. This hydrophile-lipophile transition of talc in the isooctane-water system relates to heterocoagulation among talc particles, isooctane droplets and hydroxide precipitates.  相似文献

应用实测资料计算复杂地面森林冠层的动量、潜热和粗糙参数以及动量总体输送系数(CM)、热量总体输送系数(CH)和水汽总体输送系数(CE)的参数。使用最大相关法计算本地风的粗糙度Z0M与零通量面d0M,同样结果较满意。在假设θS=θRAD的情况下计算水汽粗糙度Z0H,表明斯坦顿系数S-1t=ln(Z0M/Z0H)/K比过去的调查结果大。温度的零通量计算结果为d0H=(11.9),该值与d0M值(=12.8)相近。通过修改后方程计算表面湿度参数α,表面湿度参数α的值为0.61,该值与冠层的相对湿度相近。因此α的值可以用冠层顶部的相对湿度来计算。计算森林区粗糙度的方法和模型可推广应用到黑河流域。  相似文献

Previous studies of the wander of the rotation pole associated with the Late Pleistocene glacial cycles indicate that the predicted polar wander speed is sensitive to the density jump at the 670 km discontinuity, the thickness of the elastic lithosphere, and the lower mantle viscosity. In particular, the M1 mode related to the density jump at 670 km depth has been shown to contribute a dominant portion of predicted polar wander speed for sufficiently small lower mantle viscosities. In this study, we examine the sensitivity of polar wander to variations in the viscosity of the viscoelastic lithosphere using simplified compressible Maxwell viscoelastic earth models. Model calculations for earth models with a viscoelastic lithosphere of finite viscosity indicate that the contribution of the M1 mode is similar to those associated with the density discontinuity at the core–mantle boundary (C0 mode) and the lithosphere (L0 mode). We speculate that this is due to the interaction between the M1 mode and the transient mode associated with the viscoelastic lithosphere, which reduces the magnitude of polar wander rates. Therefore, the M1 mode does not contribute a dominant portion of the predicted polar wander speed for earth models with a viscoelastic lithosphere of finite viscosity. In this case, predictions of polar wander speed as a function of lower mantle viscosity exhibit the qualitative form of an 'inverted parabola', as predicted for the J ˙2 curve. We caution, however, that these results are obtained for simplified earth models, and the results for seismological earth models such as PREM may be complicated by the interaction between the M1 mode and the large set of transient modes.  相似文献

Summary. The thickening plate theory proposed by Yoshii and Parker & Oldenburg for the oceanic lithosphere is extended to include the continental lithosphere. The theory is based on the assumption that the lithosphere—asthenosphere boundary is a solidus and that as a result solidification of the top of the asthenosphere is occurring. Observational data imply that the relationship between the plate thickness and basement age for the North American continent is y = 1.7 √ t + (50 ± 10), where y (km) is the plate thickness and t (Myr) is the basement age.
The theory is tested against changes with basement age of the observed surface heat-flow and seismic estimate of plate thickness. The following conclusions are inferred:
(1) The changes both of the observed heat flow and plate thickness with basement age are explained by this theory.
(2) The surface erosion and vertical distribution of radiogenic heat sources are important factors in controlling the thickening process of the continental lithosphere.
(3) The equality of the average surface heat-flow over the oceans and over the continents is a consequence of a faster release of latent heat at the lithosphere—asthenosphere boundary under the oceans, instead of a higher heat production in the continental crust.  相似文献
