This work investigates the catalytic properties toward sulfide oxidation in wastewater for three composites which are functional materials obtained from red mud waste following its neutralization, chemical activation and functionalization of the iron by treatment with disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, trisodium citrate or a combination of these two organic ligands. X-ray diffraction and diffuse reflectance Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy characterizations indicated the coexistence of the corresponding iron chelates phases along with hematite the main crystallographic phase from red mud. The most active catalyst was the red mud-derived material obtained by functionalization with the mixture of ethylenediaminetetraacetate and citrate ligands. The results obtained after its testing in multiple reaction cycles showed that the decrease in conversion after 10 reaction cycles was less than 5%. Considering the results of diffuse reflectance ultraviolet visible narrow infrared spectroscopical analysis which revealed that this solid contains species with lower bond strength, it has been inferred that both the higher catalytic activity, as well as the enhanced stability, is directly related to the versatility of the active species.  相似文献

Accessory mineralization of the Late Cretaceous intrusive series in the Far East was investigated on the basis of published data and the author’s original evidence. The composition of accessory minerals from leucogranite, monzonitoid rocks, and Li–F granites has been established. The trend in the evolution of Late Cretaceous granitoids is characterized by an increase in the mineral-forming role of iron and rare elements. Diverse accessory minerals and their typomorphic assemblages have been identified for Li–F granites and ongonites. The regional specificity of accessory mineralization in rare-metal granites consists in the leading role of the minerals W, Ta, Nb, Bi, Y, REE, and As. The uniformity of mineral species and mineral assemblages and the typomorphism and evolution of accessory minerals are inherent to the Far East belt of Li–F granites.  相似文献

Long-term climate moderation is commonly attributed to chemical weathering; the higher the temperature and precipitation the faster the weathering rate. Weathering releases divalent cations to the ocean via riverine transport where they promote the drawdown of CO2 from the atmosphere by the precipitation and subsequent burial of carbonate minerals. To test this widely-held hypothesis, we performed a field study determining the weathering rates of 8 nearly pristine north-eastern Iceland river catchments with varying glacial cover over 44 years. The mean annual temperature and annual precipitation of these catchments varied by 3.2 to 4.5 °C and 80 to 530%, respectively during the study period. Statistically significant linear positive correlations were found between mean annual temperature and chemical weathering in all 8 catchments and between mean annual temperature and both mechanical weathering and runoff in 7 of the 8 catchments. For each degree of temperature increase, the runoff, mechanical weathering flux, and chemical weathering fluxes in these catchments are found to increase from 6 to 16%, 8 to 30%, and 4 to 14% respectively, depending on the catchment. In contrast, annual precipitation is less related to the measured fluxes; statistically significant correlations between annual precipitation and runoff, mechanical weathering, and chemical weathering were found for 3 of the least glaciated catchments. Mechanical and chemical weathering increased with time in all catchments over the 44 year period. These correlations were statistically significant for only 2 of the 8 catchments due to scatter in corresponding annual runoff and average annual temperature versus time plots. Taken together, these results 1) demonstrate a significant feedback between climate and Earth surface weathering, and 2) suggest that weathering rates are currently increasing with time due to global warming.  相似文献

Fish farming is an important source of organic matter input in coastal waters, which contributes to eutrophication. In this study, the macrofaunal benthic community was studied after the cessation of fish farming with the aim of improving our understanding of benthic succession and sediment recovery in a marine ecosystem. The results showed that the best environmental variables for assessing organic pollution were acid-volatile sulfides (AVS) and redox potential. Succession and recovery was best explained by macrofaunal analysis based on community composition as well as on trophic groups. The patterns of recovery differed between each impacted station. For this reason, succession could not be accurately predicted due to the unique environmental parameters and the singular community functional structure of each location. The Azti Marine Benthic Index (AMBI) proved its validity for assessing pollution but did not distinguish between successional stages.  相似文献

The in vivo effects of 4-nonylphenol (NP) on functional responses of haemocytes from the cockle Cerastoderma glaucum were investigated after 7 days exposure to sublethal NP concentrations (0, 0+acetone, 0.0125, 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1 mg/l NP). Haemocytes from both controls and exposed cockles were collected, and the effects of NP on total haemocyte count (THC) and volume of circulating cells, intracellular superoxide anion () levels, acid phosphatase and lysozyme-like activities in both haemocyte lysate (HL) and cell-free haemolymph (CFH) were evaluated. Exposure of cockles to 0.1 mg/l NP significantly increased THC (p < 0.05) with respect to controls. Analysis of haemocyte size frequency distribution showed that the haemocyte fraction of about 7–8 μm in diameter and 250 femtolitres in volume increased markedly in cockles exposed to the highest NP concentration tested. Apoptosis resulting in cell volume reduction in NP-exposed animals cannot be excluded. No statistically significant variation in intracellular levels was observed. Conversely, significant increases (p < 0.05) in acid phosphatase activity were observed in CFH from 0.05 and 0.1 mg/l NP-exposed animals; no significant differences in enzyme activity were recorded in HL. Lysozyme-like activity also increased significantly in CFH from cockles exposed to 0.05 mg/l NP (p < 0.05) and 0.1 mg/l NP (p < 0.001). Instead, lysozyme-like activity decreased significantly (p < 0.05) in the HL of animals exposed to 0.05 mg/l NP. Our results suggest that NP induces variations in the functional responses of haemocytes of C. glaucum, mainly by reducing cell membrane stability and promoting cell degranulation.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to investigate the possible use of the clam Tapes philippinarum—a filter-feeding bivalve living on soft bottoms—in the monitoring of sediment pollution in the Lagoon of Venice (North-East Italy). To this end, two clam populations, exposed to different environmental conditions (a relative clean site and an industrial polluted area), have been monitored for the prevalence of the protozoan parasite Perkinsus sp. as well as for several biological parameters commonly used as determinants of contaminants exposure. First results showed a low prevalence, higher in the clean site, but a very diffuse distribution of the parasite throughout the two populations. Nevertheless, greater digestive cells height and longer lysosomal latency time were observed in clams from the clean area. As for the physiological stress-related parameters, even if clearance rates were always higher in these clams, scope for growth values indicated a more complicated biological response.  相似文献
