In estuarine ecosystems, microphytobenthos resuspended by tidal currents often represents a large part of the food supply available to bivalves which feed selectively. This study investigated the feeding behavior of the Pacific oysterCrassostrea gigas (Thunberg) relative to a natural microphytobenthic assemblage and the effect on the structure of this assemblage. Oysters were fed only benthic microalgae collected on the intertidal mud flats of Bourgneuf Bay (France) at a suspended particulate matter concentration above the threshold of pseudofeces production. All species in the assemblage were endemic diatoms characteritic of tidal mud flat environments. Four dominant ones, which were all solitary cells with spear-shaped frustules [Navicula ammophila (Grunow),Navicula rostellata (Kützing),Plagiotropis lepidoptera (Kuntze), andStaurophora amphioxys (Mann)] represented more than 95% of the 16 species involved. Analysis of feeding processes showed that the retention of the four main diatoms was not significantly different, but that two species, the smallest (N. ammophila [22×4 μm]) and the largest (P. lepidoptera [60×15 μm]), were preferentially ingested. The study of post-ingestive selection revealed that these two species were also preferentially digeted, i.e., preferentially directed into the digestive diverticulum, when they passed through the gut ofC. gigas. Cell size and shape did not appear to account for pre-ingestive and post-ingestive selection. The composition of the assemblage was significantly modified by oyster filtration, although the retention rates of the four main species were not significantly different. The composition of microalgae in pseudofeces and feces as a result of pre-ingestive and post-ingestive selection differed from that in seawater.  相似文献

This article presents a systematic analysis of the anisotropic behaviours of the Bentheim and Rothbach sandstones using ultrasonic P-wave velocity, electrical conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. For each sandstone, the data were obtained from three core samples drilled perpendicularly to each other and tested in dry- and water-saturated conditions. For acoustic and magnetic investigations, the same statistical analysis was applied in order to present the data on comparable stereoplots. Surprisingly, the Bentheim sandstone which appeared homogeneous at macroscopic scale showed a stronger elastic and electrical anisotropy than the Rothbach sandstone in which cross-laminations were clearly identified, as confirmed by a sedimentary magnetic fabric. A discussion on the velocity contrasts between dry and saturated samples led us to consider two different origins for the observed anisotropies. First, by comparing electrical and acoustic properties in the Bentheim sandstone, we conclude that the nature of the anisotropic behaviour is linked to the anisotropy of pore shape: the inclusion model developed by Kachanov (Kachanov, M., 1993. Elastic solids with many cracks and related problems. Advances in Applied Mechanics, vol. 30. Academic Press, Boston, MA, pp. 259–445) accounts for our observations if one considers that the pore space is made of parallel flat pores with moderate pore aspect ratio. Second, acoustic, electrical and magnetic properties indicate that the observed anisotropy in the Rothbach sandstone can be attributed to the matrix, and more specifically to cementation: we modified the Dvorkin and Nur (Geophysics 61 (5) (1996) 1363) model of cemented granular media by introducing a spatially variable contact length, and the model suggests that a very small variability of cemented contact length is enough to account for the observed P-wave velocity anisotropy. We emphasise the fact that combining several kinds of measurements is of great help in capturing the nature of the anisotropic behaviour of porous rocks.  相似文献

The Au-Ag (-Pb-Zn) Apacheta deposit is located in the Shila district, 600 km southeast of Lima in the Cordillera Occidental of Arequipa Province, southern Peru. The vein mineralization is found in Early to Middle Miocene calc-alkaline lava flows and volcanic breccias. Both gangue and sulfide mineralization express a typical low-sulfidation system; assay data show element zoning with base metals enriched at depth and higher concentrations of precious metals in the upper part of the veins. Three main deposition stages are observed: (1) early pyrite and base-metal sulfides with minor electrum 1 and acanthite; (2) brecciation of this mineral assemblage and cross-cutting veinlets with subhedral quartz crystals, Mn-bearing calcite and rhombic adularia crystals; and finally (3) veinlets and geodal filling of an assemblage of tennantite/tetrahedrite + colorless sphalerite 2 + galena + chalcopyrite + electrum 2. Fluid inclusions in the mineralized veins display two distinct types: aqueous-carbonic liquid-rich Lw-c inclusions, and aqueous-carbonic vapor-rich Vw-c inclusions. Microthermometric data indicate that the ore minerals were deposited between 300 and 225 °C from relatively dilute hydrothermal fluids (0.6-3.4 wt% NaCl). The physical and chemical characteristics of the hydrothermal fluids show a vertical evolution, with in particular a drop in temperature and a loss of H2S. The presence of adularia and platy calcite and of co-existing liquid-rich and vapor-rich inclusions in the ore-stage indicates a boiling event. Strong H2S enrichment in the Vw-c inclusions observed at -200 m, the abundance of platy calcite, and the occurrence of hydrothermal breccia at this level may indicate a zone of intense boiling. The vertical element zoning observed in the Apacheta deposit thus seems to be directly related to the vertical evolution of hydrothermal-fluid characteristics. Precious-metal deposition mainly occurred above the 200-m level below the present-day surface, in response to a liquid/vapor phase separation due to an upward boiling front.  相似文献

Tecto-aluminosilicate and peraluminous glasses have been prepared by conventional and laser heating techniques, respectively, in the CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 system. The structure of these glasses were studied using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray absorption at the Al K-edge and 27Al NMR spectroscopy with two different high fields (400 and 750 MHz). Raman spectroscopy and X-ray absorption are techniques sensitive to the network polymerization and, in particular, show different signal as a function of silica content. However, these two techniques are less sensitive than NMR to describe the local aluminium environment. For tectosilicate glasses, aluminium in five-fold coordination, [5]Al, was found and a careful quantification allows the determination of a significant amount of [5]Al (7% in the anorthite glass). The proportion of [5]Al increases for the peraluminous glasses with small amounts (<2%) of six-fold coordination, [6]Al. The presence of [5]Al agrees with previous observations of the existence of nonbridging oxygens (NBOs) in tectosilicate compositions. However, the proportion of [5]Al in the present study indicates that no major proportion of triclusters (oxygen coordinated to three (Si,Al)O4 tetrahedra) is required to explain these NBOS.  相似文献

High-pressure high-temperature experiments have been carried out up to 25 GPa and 2200°C in a multianvil press on assemblages made of silicates and iron-silicon alloys. At 20 GPa, silicon is extracted from the metal phase, forming stishovite reaction rims around metal grains. The silicon content in metal has been measured by analytical electron microscopy and electron microprobe. In contrast with earlier experiments, the present data were obtained by using silicon-rich metal alloys as starting materials instead of studying incorporation of silicon in initially silicon-free metal. As in most of previous studies carried out below 25 GPa, the silicon content in liquid metal increases with increasing pressure and with decreasing oxygen fugacity. The oxygen fugacity in most experiments was calculated by using two independent buffers: iron/?stite (IW) and SiO2/Si, allowing to link consistently the Fe contents in silicates, the Si contents in metal and the temperatures of the experiments. At oxygen fugacities 4 log units below IW, silicates are in equilibrium with Si-rich metallic alloys (up to 17 wt% of Si in metal at 20 GPa and 2200°C). Extrapolation to 2 log units below IW leads to less than 0.1 wt% Si in the metal phase. Presence of several wt% of silicon in the Earth’s core thus requires highly reduced initial materials that, if equilibrated at conditions relevant to small planets, should already contain significant amount of silicon dissolved in metal.  相似文献
