The potential of quad polarization radar data for the target discrimination has been analyzed. Quad polarization data of the RADARSAT-2 fine resolution mode has been utilized. Class separability analysis has been carried out on different polarization combinations using Transformed Divergence (TD) method and it is observed that HH-HV/VH-VV polarization combination gives better class separability when compared to other polarization combinations. Classification has been carried out on the optimized polarization combination using Maximum likelihood (MLC) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers. It is observed that SVM classification gives better classification accuracy compared to MLC. Overall classification accuracy is 93.03% for SVM and 88.78% for MLC. Class separability and classification accuracy comparison results are presented. 相似文献

The complex composition and distribution of colour producing agents (CPAs) in turbid aquatic environments such as the Western Basin of Lake Erie (WBLE) presents a challenge to the application of remote sensing data for differentiating among in-water constituents and estimating their concentrations independently. In this study, multivariate procedures are applied to lab-based spectrophotometer data to estimate the concentration of chlorophyll-a and suspended matters in the WBLE. Principal Component Analysis of first-derivative transformed hyper-spectral data from the spectrophotometer extracted three significant spectral components for each cruise, explaining up to 88% of the spectral variability. Spectral matching using reference spectra indicated that two of the extracted patterns represent signatures of in-water constituents that govern the optical properties of the WBLE, namely, cyanobacteria and diatoms associated with green algae. The spectrophotometer data clearly revealed known spectral features associated with phytoplankton, such as the absorption minima near 550 and 700 nm, which can be attributed to the minimum of absorption and fluorescence of chlorophyll-a, respectively. The method also extracted the absorption peaks due to chlorophyll-a, near 670 nm, and due to phycocyanin, near 620 nm. Principal component regression of chlorophyll-a on the PC scores indicated that 63.4% of variation of chlorophyll-a in the WBLE can be explained by two components. Factors 2 and 3 explain 60% of the joint spatiotemporal variability of suspended matters in the WBLE. The results illustrate the potential of multivariate technique applied to remote sensing data in isolating the patterns that represent constituents in turbid Case 2 waters. 相似文献

Hypsometric analysis is useful for understanding the geomorphic stages of a river basin. Hypsometric parameters have been evaluated and curves are prepared forall the 20 sub-basins of Kali River. Thirteen sub-basins are found to be under younger geomorphic stages with high hypsometric integral (Ea) values and subjected to recent tectonic activities. The remaining seven sub-basins are approaching mature stage and subjected to more erosion and less impacted by recent tectonic activities. Six sub-basins with lower hypsometric head values (<0.56) indicate least effect of diffusive processes and another six sub-basins with medium hypsometric head values (0.60–0.68) depict moderate diffusive erosion. The remaining eight sub-basins with higher hypsometric head values (>0.75) indicate highest diffusive processes at their upper reaches. Lower (<0.28) and higher (>0.44) hypsometric toe values indicate minimum and maximum mass accumulation respectively at the sub-catchment mouth. 相似文献

An understanding of the contemporary biogeography of a region must be predicated not only on the current environmental conditions that influence species distributions but also on historical factors including anthropogenic disturbance regimes. Increasingly, researchers are using historical data, such as the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) records, to create baselines from which subsequent biogeographic changes can be gauged. The present-day state of Oklahoma is unique in that two separate PLSS surveys were conducted in the state during a relatively short time span. We compare these two historical data sets, from the 1870s and 1890s, respectively, to quantify changes in landscape structure and woody plant assemblages corresponding to rapid demographic changes occurring within the Arbuckle Mountains in Oklahoma. During this period, the PLSS data show a landscape that became increasingly fragmented, as well as differences in stand composition and density. The documentation of these important historical anthropogenic changes occurring on the western fringes of the eastern deciduous forest could serve as a valuable guide for conservation and restoration initiatives. 相似文献

Adaptation is increasingly planned and funded to reduce negative impacts of climate change for vulnerable social groups; however, vulnerable groups have the least capacity to adapt. Adaptation is therefore unlikely to produce socially sustainable or equitable outcomes. Six adaptation processes on Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, are modeled with logistic regression to identify their determinant factors. Most adaptations simply reproduce unsustainable patterns of social vulnerability rooted in unequal access to land and other resource entitlements. A few exceptions are observed, where low costs, widely accessible knowledge, and community groups with cross-scale social networks enabled vulnerable social groups to implement adaptations. 相似文献

Abstract The south-easterly surface flow down the slopes of Antarctica induces a transfer of westerly angular momentum to the atmosphere, which must be removed from the Antarctic domain by atmospheric transports. It is suggested that synoptic eddies protruding from the northern baroclinic zone into the polar regions are modified by the topography such that they are able to perform these meridional transports. A simple linear two-layer model of the axisymmetric circulation of Antarctica is presented where the eddy effects are incorporated via a K-ansatz. It is shown that qualitatively realistic mean flow patterns can be obtained with this model. The limitations of this approach are exposed. 相似文献

Inland dunes occur over a large part of east-central lower Michigan, where they mantle glaciolacustrine and outwash surfaces that were exposed around 12,000 yrs. B.P. The dunes are parabolic, with northwest-oriented limbs, and occur in swampy landscapes, suggesting that paleoclimatic conditions at the time of their formation were much drier and possibly windier. In order to determine whether the dunes stabilized concurrently or randomly in time and space, surface soils were studied on 30 dunes in the area and quantitatively analyzed for relative differences. Soils data from the dunes indicate concurrent stabilization, following a period of regional mobilization of aeolian sand. Surface soils have formed by podzolization, in uniform parent materials, and are morphologically similar throughout the area. All the soils are weakly developed, with subtle variations on a A-E-Bs-BC-C horizonation sequence. Munsell colors of Bs horizons are remarkably uniform, with 27 of 30 sites exhibiting values of 4 and chromas of 6. Chemical data suggest that Fe and Al translocation has been uniform throughout the region. When compared with soils of known age in northwest lower Michigan, the data indicate that dunes in the region had stabilized at least by 4000 yrs. B.P., leaving an approximately 8000-yr. interval in which they could have formed. In contrast to the prevailing southwesterly winds of today, dune-forming winds were dominantly from the northwest. The microstructure measurements taken during the summer seasons of 2009 and 2010 in the northern South China Sea (between 18°N and 22.5°N, and from the Luzon Strait to the eastern shelf of China) were used to estimate the averaged dissipation rate in the upper pycnocline 〈ε p〉 of the deep basin and on the shelf. Linear correlation between 〈ε p〉 and the estimates of available potential energy of internal waves, which was found for this data set, indicates an impact of energetic internal waves on spatial structure and temporal variability of 〈ε p〉. On the shelf stations, the bottom boundary layer depth-integrated dissipation $ {\widehat{\varepsilon}}_{\mathrm{BBL}} $ reaches 17–19 mW/m2, dominating the dissipation in the water column below the surface layer. In the pycnocline, the integrated dissipation $ {\widehat{\varepsilon}}_{\mathrm{p}} $ was mostly ~10–30 % of $ {\widehat{\varepsilon}}_{\mathrm{BBL}} $ . A weak dependence of bin-averaged dissipation $ \overline{\varepsilon} $ on the Richardson number was noted, according to $ \overline{\varepsilon}={\varepsilon}_0+\frac{\varepsilon_{\mathrm{m}}}{{\left(1+ Ri/R{i}_{\mathrm{cr}}\right)}^{1/2}} $ , where ε 0 + ε m is the background value of $ \overline{\varepsilon} $ for weak stratification and Ri cr?=?0.25, pointing to the combined effects of shear instability of small-scale motions and the influence of larger-scale low frequency internal waves. Abstract— Fischer‐Tropsch‐type (FTT) reactions have been hypothesized to contribute to the formation of organic compounds in the early solar system, but it has been difficult to identify a signature of such reactions in meteoritic organics. The work reported here examined whether temperature‐dependent carbon isotopic fractionation of FTT reactions might provide such a signature. Analyses of bulk organic deposits resulting from FTT experiments show a slight trend toward lighter carbon isotopic ratios with increasing temperature. It is unlikely, however, that these carbon isotopic signatures could provide definitive provenance for organic compounds in solar system materials produced through FTT reactions, because of the small scale of the observed fractionations and the possibility that signatures from many different temperatures may be present in any specific grain. 相似文献
