We have used the S-056 X-ray data from Skylab to determine quantitative values for the coronal conditions characterizing a new bipolar magnetic region (BMR). In particular, we include: (a) the time variation of the total soft X-ray flux from the BMR as a function of time; (b) the temporal and spatial variation of the temperature and emission measure; (c) the variation with time of thermal energy density; (d) the (calculated) magnetic field configuration and magnetic flux density in the corona; and (e) the temporal variation of the magnetic field energy in the corona. Within the framework of the multidisciplinary RECS project and with the aim of describing the particle flux transfer from the continental shelf to the deep basin, an array of five mooring lines equipped with a total of five pairs of PPS3/3 sequential-sampling sediment traps and RCM-7/8 current meters were deployed 30 m above the bottom from March 2003 to March 2004 inside and outside the Blanes Canyon. One mooring line was located in the upper canyon at 600 m depth, one in the canyon axis at 1700 m depth and other two close to the canyon walls at 900 m depth. A fifth mooring line was deployed in the continental open slope at 1500 m water depth.The highest near-bottom downward particle flux (14.50 g m−2 d−1) was recorded at the trap located in the upper canyon (M1), where continental inputs associated with the presence of the Tordera River are most relevant. On the other hand, the downward fluxes (4.35 g m−2 d−1) in the canyon axis (M2) were of the same order as those found in the western flank (M3) of the canyon. Both values were clearly higher than the value (1.95 g m−2 d−1) recorded at the eastern canyon wall (M4). The open slope (M5) mass flux (5.42 mg m−2 d−1) recorded by the sediment trap located outside the canyon system was three orders of magnitude lower than the other values registered by the inner canyon stations. The relevance of our data is that it explains how the transport pathway in the canyon occurs through its western flank, where a more active and persistent current toward the open ocean was recorded over the entire year of the experiment.Off-shelf sediment transport along the canyon axis showed clear differences during the period of the study, with some important events leading to strong intensifications of the current coupled with large transport of particle fluxes to the deepest parts of the canyon. Such events are primarily related to increases in river discharge and the occurrence of strong storms and cascading events during the winter.In summary, in this study it is shown that the dynamics of the water masses and the currents in the study area convert the sharp western flank of the Blanes Canyon in a more active region that favors erosion processes than the eastern flank, which has a smoother topography and where the absence of erosional conditions yields to steadier sedimentary processes. 相似文献

I examined two multiple impulsive events in May 1969 and compared their impulsive Hex, hard X-ray and microwave components to the observed type III emission. No good correlation was observed between meter intensity and the degree of simultaneous H outflow although almost every type III burst had some associated H activity. Correspondingly, an inverse relationship existed between X-ray and type III emission, i.e., a strong meter burst accompanied weak hard X-radiation. This, along with the fact that sufficient energetic electrons were normally present to produce the X-rays, implies that the trajectory, rather than electron spectrum or supply, determines whether type III noise is observed during an impulsive event. 相似文献

I examined a moderately active sunspot group, McMath 9735, and found that 15 of 16 flares observed in 1968, October 20–21 occurred near, and were preceded by, at least one of several EFR's (Emerging Flux Regions) in the area. Flares were larger and more numerous when: (1) the EFR appeared close to already existing spots, (2) a large amount of filament reorientation was occurring, and when (3) the EFR was most active, i.e., it was increasing in area and brightness and was accompanied by violent surging and great brightness fluctuations at the feet of the dark fibrils. Only two flares occurred at an inverted EFR, i.e., a leading spot with f polarity, however the largest event (2B) of the 15 quickly spread to this region after starting in a different EFR. A sunspot appeared in the inverted emerging flux region less than three hours after the flares. However this is thought to be merely an indication of the growing EFR and, therefore, a secondary effect. 相似文献

Subic Bay sediments and faults identified in seismic-reflection profiles were dated using sea-level curves. The oldest sedimentary packages are marine sediments subaerially exposed and eroded 20 ka. Fluvio-marine to wholly marine sediments were deposited during the ensuing transgression, and prograding units were deposited during stillstands or minor sea-level falls. Faults within the bay have three age ranges. The oldest set cuts through the pre-δ18O Stage 2 rock units, >18 ka; a second disrupts 10.2–11.3 ka sediments; and the youngest, which cut the uppermost sedimentary package, show that movements occurred about every 2 ky, most recently about 3 ka. Northwest–southeast faults that parallel onshore structures associated with Paleogene emplacement of the Zambales Ophiolite Complex to the west and north likely represent rejuvenated tectonism. The northern coastline and north–south-trending axial bay islands appear related to a lineament that dissects Mt Pinatubo farther northeast. A breach in the caldera of Mt Natib is the most likely source of a presumed pyroclastic deposit in the eastern bay that is associated with sediments about 11.3–18 ka, indicating that a Natib eruption occurred much more recently than previously documented for this volcano. 相似文献

A saline circuit has been studied as a model of coastal evaporite system. The lipid composition of diverse salt ponds encompassing calcite, gypsum and halite domains has been determined. Most of the lipid materials has been found in the carbonate samples and is related to algal/cyanobacterial debris. Lipids in the gypsum domain are of heterotropic microbialorigin and extreme halophilic bacteria constitute the main lipid contribution in the halite samples. n-Alkane distributions with high predominance of n-docosane constitute a previously described feature of sedimentary evaporitic conditions that is charateristics of the intermediate calcite/gypsum samples. In the calcite domain, the presence of C20 highly branched isoprenid olephines, tetrahymanol and the large amounts of phytol constitute likely precursors of lipids usually found in evaporitic environments (i.e. C20 highly branched isoprenoid alkanes, gammacerane and high phytane/pristane ratios). Their occurence point to dehydration and hydrogenations as two main diagenetic processes leading to the formation of “evaporitic molecular markers”. 相似文献

Susceptibility of intrusion-related landslides in an active volcano was evaluated coupling the landslide susceptibility estimation by random forest (RF), and the probabilistic volcanic vent opening distribution, as proxy for magma injection, using the QVAST tool. In order to develop and test the method proposed here, the RF/QVAST approach was adopted for Stromboli volcano (Southern Italy) since it experienced moderate to huge instability events, it is geomorphologically prone to instability events, and it is affected by active intense volcanic activity that can produce slope instability. The main destabilizing factors of the volcanic flanks are the slope, the aspect, the terrain roughness, the land cover and the litho-technical features of the outcropping rocks. Estimation of volcanic susceptibility shows that the areas with high probability of new vent opening are located in the north-western unstable volcano flank (Sciara del Fuoco), in the volcano summit and the north-eastern volcano flank coherent with the possible re-activation of the eruptive fissures related to the regional tectonic setting. The areas with higher probability of intrusion-related landslides are located in the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco, while the rest of the island show moderate to low probability of intrusion-related landslide occurrence. 相似文献
