Abstract I present an internally consistent reinterpretation of carbyne diffraction data making a few plausible assumptions. The results support that carbynes could be crystalline, randomly interstratified (or mixed-layered) carbons with variable C/(C+H+O+N) ratios rather than thermodynamically stable carbon allotropes. The metastable carbynes are likely the result of incomplete, kinetically-inhibited, low-temperature pyrolysis of precursor material. A renewed interest in meteoritic carbynes should seek to combine light-element chemistry and crystallography of these elusive carbons. 相似文献
GPS observations in the Western Bohemia/Vogtland earthquake swarm region revealed indications of horizontal displacements
of low amplitude, and no clear long-term trend in 1993–2007. On the other hand, in 1998–2001 there was relatively significant
active movement along NNE-SSW oriented line that we called the “Cheb-Kraslice GPS Boundary” (ChKB), identical with an important
limitation of earthquake activity. The most impressive were dextral (right-lateral) movements in the 1998–1999 period followed
by reverse sinistral (left-lateral) movements in 1999–2000 that correlate with prevailing motion defined by fault plane solutions
of the Autumn 2000 earthquake swarm. Before the February 2004 micro-swarm, two points located on opposite sides of the Mariánské
Lázně fault showed extension in the order of about 7 mm in the same NNE-SSW direction of ChKB. The new NOKO permanent GPS
station in Novy Kostel showed the peak-to-peak vertical changes up to 10 mm before and during the February 2007 micro-swarm.
Annual precise levelling campaigns in the local network around Novy Kostel revealed regular vertical displacements during
the 1994, 1997 and 2000 earthquake swarms. The points around the Novy Kostel seismological station showed uplift during the
active periods, including the micro-swarm February 2004. However, no such indication was observed on levelling points in the
period of the February 2007 swarm. Long-term vertical displacements depend on the same direction NNE-SSW (ChKB) as the GPS
displacements. Both geodetic techniques have revealed oscillating displacements, GPS horizontal, and levelling vertical, rather
than any long-term trends in the study period 1993–2007. The displacements exhibited significant spatial and temporal relation
to tectonic activity (earthquake swarms) including their coincidence with the seismologically determined sense of motion along
the fault plane during earthquakes. 相似文献
The warming trend observed during the last decades in the Bay of Biscay is put within the context of sea surface temperature (SST) changes observed in the area since 1854. Macroscopically, two consecutive warming–cooling cycles were detected during this period of time: cooling from 1867 to 1910; warming from 1910 to 1945; cooling from 1945 to 1974; and warming from 1974 to nowadays. Warming rates of 0.17 and 0.22 °C per decade were measured during the warming sub-periods and cooling rates of ?0.14 and ?0.10 °C per decade were measured during the cooling sub-periods. The present warming period is on the same order of magnitude although slightly more intense than the one observed from 1910 to 1945, which is consistent with previous analysis carried for the North Atlantic. Finally, the thermal amplitude defined as the difference between the maximum and minimum annual values has increased since 1974 at a rate of 0.06 °C per decade due to the different increasing rates of the maximum (0.26 °C per decade) and minimum (0.20 °C per decade) SSTs. 相似文献

In an effort to examine the relationship between flare flux and corresponding CME mass, we temporally and spatially correlate
all X-ray flares and CMEs in the LASCO and GOES archives from 1996 to 2006. We cross-reference 6733 CMEs having well-measured
masses against 12 050 X-ray flares having position information as determined from their optical counterparts. For a given
flare, we search in time for CMEs which occur 10 – 80 minutes afterward, and we further require the flare and CME to occur
within ± 45° in position angle on the solar disk. There are 826 CME/flare pairs which fit these criteria. Comparing the flare
fluxes with CME masses of these paired events, we find CME mass increases with flare flux, following an approximately log-linear,
broken relationship: in the limit of lower flare fluxes, log (CME mass)∝0.68×log (flare flux), and in the limit of higher
flare fluxes, log (CME mass)∝0.33×log (flare flux). We show that this broken power-law, and in particular the flatter slope
at higher flare fluxes, may be due to an observational bias against CMEs associated with the most energetic flares: halo CMEs.
Correcting for this bias yields a single power-law relationship of the form log (CME mass)∝0.70×log (flare flux). This function
describes the relationship between CME mass and flare flux over at least 3 dex in flare flux, from ≈ 10−7 – 10−4 W m−2. 相似文献
The relationship between acoustic backscatter, sediment characteristics and benthic habitat is examined using high-resolution sidescan sonar data collected at the Loch Linnhe artificial reef site on the west coast of Scotland. The site is typical for the continental shelf of NW Europe, with a mix of seabed environments from muddy to coarse, stony substrata on a 10–100 m length scale. A sidescan sonar mosaic was produced and classified according to derived backscatter parameters (mean, median and standard deviation of the backscatter values) using an unsupervised classification procedure. The accuracy of the final classified map was assessed by comparison with a ground-truthing survey in which the biological habitat was derived from underwater video footage. The sidescan correctly predicted seabed surface characteristics of observed biological habitat with 78% accuracy. A second, and more challenging test of the acoustic data to correctly predict biological habitat was made by comparing it with data from 21 grab sampling stations. These stations were divided into three groups using multivariate statistical techniques based on their backscatter properties. Benthic assemblage structure was found to be significantly distinct between the high and low, and the medium and low backscatter stations. There was a low to moderate but significant correlation between the multivariate patterns of acoustic backscatter, benthic assemblage structure, and particle size distribution. The work shows that even in areas with subtle and gradational changes in substratum, the sidescan was able to predict biological community with an acceptable accuracy. 相似文献
Pore water in the Chalk is likely to remain essentially static under the influence of environmental forces with the exception of evapotranspiration. A process of piston displacement of water through networks of microfissures provides a possible mechanism for downward percolation through the unsaturated Chalk.
Maintenance of continuous diffusion equilibrium between fissure and pore water throughout downward migration allows the explanation of the observed rates of movement for thermonuclear tritium in the unsaturated zone. Activation of increasingly large fissures with increasing infiltration rates explains observed rapid water-table response under conditions of sustained high inflow, and is consistent with the behaviour of water quality parameters in the saturated aquifer. Whereas in the unsaturated zone it is suggested that 80 to 90% of total flow passes through microfissures, in the saturated aquifer fluid transport is essentially through macrofissures. Diffusion equilibrium between pore water and fissure water in the saturated zone is not therefore expected.
Individual macrofissures occasionally are enlarged by solution, making it possible for a large proportion of saturated flow to take place through relatively few preferential flow channels. Although the macrofissures, and particularly enlarged macrofissures, are largely responsible for aquifer transmissivity, microfissure storage may often be highly significant in terms of specific yield. 相似文献
Structural, petrological and textural studies are combined with phase equilibria modelling of metapelites from different structural levels of the Roc de Frausa Massif in the Eastern Pyrenees. The pre‐Variscan lithological succession is divided into the Upper, Intermediate and Lower series by two orthogneiss sheets and intruded by Variscan igneous rocks. Structural analysis reveals two phases of Variscan deformation. D1 is marked by tight to isoclinal small‐scale folds and an associated flat‐lying foliation (S1) that affects the whole crustal section. D2 structures are characterized by tight upright folds facing to the NW with steep NE–SW axial planes. D2 heterogeneously reworks the D1 fabrics, leading to an almost complete transposition into a sub‐vertical foliation (S2) in the high‐grade metamorphic domain. All structures are affected by late open to tight, steeply inclined south‐verging NW–SE folds (F3) compatible with steep greenschist facies dextral shear zones of probable Alpine age. In the micaschists of the Upper series, andalusite and sillimanite grew during the formation of the S1 foliation indicating heating from 580 to 640 °C associated with an increase in pressure. Subsequent static growth of cordierite points to post‐D1 decompression. In the Intermediate series, a sillimanite–biotite–muscovite‐bearing assemblage that is parallel to the S1 fabric is statically overgrown by cordierite and K‐feldspar. This sequence points to ~1 kbar of post‐D1 decompression at 630–650 °C. The Intermediate series is intruded by a gabbro–diorite stock that has an aureole marked by widespread migmatization. In the aureole, the migmatitic S1 foliation is defined by the assemblage biotite–sillimanite–K‐feldspar–garnet. The microstructural relationships and garnet zoning are compatible with the D1 pressure peak at ~7.5 kbar and ~750 °C. Late‐ to post‐S2 cordierite growth implies that F2 folds and the associated S2 axial planar leucosomes developed during nearly isothermal decompression to <5 kbar. The Lower series migmatites form a composite S1–S2 fabric; the garnet‐bearing assemblage suggests peak P–T conditions of >5 kbar at suprasolidus conditions. Almost complete consumption of garnet and late cordierite growth points to post‐D2 equilibration at <4 kbar and <750 °C. The early metamorphic history associated with the S1 fabric is interpreted as a result of horizontal middle crustal flow associated with progressive heating and possible burial. The upright F2 folding and S2 foliation are associated with a pressure decrease coeval with the intrusion of mafic magma at mid‐crustal levels. The D2 tectono‐metamorphic evolution may be explained by a crustal‐scale doming associated with emplacement of mafic magmas into the core of the dome. 相似文献
Two radiocarbon-dated Lateglacial pollen diagrams from the Vale of Mowbray (northern Vale of York) are presented from sites in the lowlands between the washlands courses of the rivers Swale and Ure in North Yorkshire, an area with little previous palynological research despite its proximity to the Devensian glacial advance limits in eastern England. The profiles, from Snape Mires and Nosterfield, include the Loch Lomond Stadial (Younger Dryas) and the Holocene transition, while that from Snape Mires also includes the period from the early part of the Lateglacial Interstadial. This profile differs from most published Interstadial diagrams from the Yorkshire region in having a long-delayed expansion of tree and shrub taxa. Juniperus (juniper) remains important after vegetation development takes place and the pollen record includes evidence of two cold climate oscillations before the maximum development of Betula (birch) woodland near the end of the Lateglacial Interstadial. At both profiles Artemisia (mugwort) frequencies are lower during the Loch Lomond Stadial than at many regional sites, probably due to edaphic factors in these lowland locations. The two sites provide valuable environmental data that enable comparison between the more wooded Lateglacial vegetation to the south in the Vale of York and Humberside and the more open contemporaneous vegetation to the north in the Durham and Northumberland lowlands. 相似文献
Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) carrier phase integer ambiguity resolution is the key to high-precision positioning
and attitude determination. In this contribution, we develop new integer least-squares (ILS) theory for the GNSS compass model,
together with efficient integer search strategies. It extends current unconstrained ILS theory to the nonlinearly constrained
case, an extension that is particularly suited for precise attitude determination. As opposed to current practice, our method
does proper justice to the a priori given information. The nonlinear baseline constraint is fully integrated into the ambiguity
objective function, thereby receiving a proper weighting in its minimization and providing guidance for the integer search.
Different search strategies are developed to compute exact and approximate solutions of the nonlinear constrained ILS problem.
Their applicability depends on the strength of the GNSS model and on the length of the baseline. Two of the presented search
strategies, a global and a local one, are based on the use of an ellipsoidal search space. This has the advantage that standard
methods can be applied. The global ellipsoidal search strategy is applicable to GNSS models of sufficient strength, while
the local ellipsoidal search strategy is applicable to models for which the baseline lengths are not too small. We also develop
search strategies for the most challenging case, namely when the curvature of the non-ellipsoidal ambiguity search space needs
to be taken into account. Two such strategies are presented, an approximate one and a rigorous, somewhat more complex, one.
The approximate one is applicable when the fixed baseline variance matrix is close to diagonal. Both methods make use of a
search and shrink strategy. The rigorous solution is efficiently obtained by means of a search and shrink strategy that uses
non-quadratic, but easy-to-evaluate, bounding functions of the ambiguity objective function. The theory presented is generally
valid and it is not restricted to any particular GNSS or combination of GNSSs. Its general applicability also applies to the
measurement scenarios (e.g. single-epoch vs. multi-epoch, or single-frequency vs. multi-frequency). In particular it is applicable
to the most challenging case of unaided, single frequency, single epoch GNSS attitude determination. The success rate performance
