New measurements of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn at 3.1 and 8.6 mm wavelengths are given. The temperatures reported for the planets at 3.1 mm wavelength are higher than previous measurements in this wavelength range and change the interpretation of some planetary spectra. For Mercury, it is found that the mean brightness temperature is independent of wavelength and that a temperature dependent thermal conductivity is not required to match the observations. In the case of Mars, the spectrum is shown to rise in the millimeter region as simple models predict. For Jupiter, the need to recalculate the spectrum with recent models is demonstrated. The flux density scale proposed by Dent (1972) has been revised according to a more accurate determination of the millimeter brightness temperature of Jupiter.  相似文献

Detailed magnetic fields in the Earth's tail are calculated from a proposed model containing Beard's tail surface and a current sheet inferred from satellite observations. The component inside and perpendicular to the neutral sheet permits us to construct the drift pattern in the magnetic equatorial plane for charged particles. The computed results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results, although some deviations are noted.  相似文献

This is a report upon further data obtained from the auroral OI 5577 Å emission with a Wide Angle Michelson Interferometer (WAMI), and upon our first observations made with it on the 6300 Å emission. The method used for converting emission intensities and temperatures to auroral electron fluxes and energy spectra is described. Data for the 5577 Å emission are presented for the (lack of) heating in auroral forms, vertical temperature profiles in aurora, electron flux and energy spectrum variations in pulsating aurora, and a ‘cold’ subvisual auroral arc. Data from the OI 6300 Å emission are presented for the diurnal variation of exospheric temperature and for the thermalization of O(1D) in the F-region.  相似文献

In situ observations of the electron depletion in the wakes of satellites and rockets in the ionosphere using Langmuir type probes and antennas are analyzed and compared. The quantitative degree of agreement between the results is demonstrated and discussed. The type III carbonaceous chondrites Kainsaz and Efremovka have been analysed for eighteen major, minor and trace elements by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. A comparison of the data on Kainsaz with four other Ornans sub-type carbonaceous chondrites reveals a remarkable degree of constancy of composition. Efremovka, together with Leoville and Coolidge, may be distinguished from the other Vigarano sub-type carbonaceous chondrites by their lower Na and K contents, variable Na/K ratios and relatively low Ca/Al ratios. Some observations are made on the ratio Na/K in various types of stony meteorite; the magnitude of the ratio in the basaltic achondrites appears to be more similar to that in the carbonaceous chondrites than in the ordinary chondrites.  相似文献

The analysis of lunar laser ranging data requires very accurate calculations of the lunar physical librations. Libration terms are given which arise from the additive and planetary terms in the lunar theory. The large size of the recently discovered terms due to third degree gravitational harmonics will allow some of these harmonics to be measured, in addition to and, by laser ranging to the Moon. Combining the laser ranging determinations of = 630.6 ± 0.5 × 10–6 and = 226.4 ± 3.0 × 10–6 with lunar orbiter measurements ofC 20 andC 22 givesC/MR 2=0.395 -0.010 +0.006 . Numerical integration promises to be an effective method of calculating librations. Comparison of numerical integrations with analytic series indicates that the calculation of the series due to third and fourth degree harmonics is not yet as accurate as the more extensively developed second degree terms.Communication presented at the Conference on Lunar Dynamics and Observational Coordinate Systems, held January 15–17, 1973, at the Lunar Science Institute, Houston, Tex., U.S.A.  相似文献

It is shown that the equations of the general three-body problem take on a very symmetric form when one considers only their relative positions, rather than position vectors relative to some given coordinate system. From these equations one quickly surmises some well known classical properties of the three-body problem such as the first integrals and the equilateral triangle solutions. Some new Lagrangians with relative coordinates are also obtained. Numerical integration of the new equations of motion is about 10 percent faster than with barycentric or heliocentric coordinates.  相似文献

We compare observations of type III impulsive radio bursts made at the Clark Lake Radio Observatory with high-spatial-resolution cinematographic observations taken at the Big Bear Solar Observatory. Use of the log-periodic radio interferometer allows us to localize the radio emission uniquely. This study concentrates on the particularly active region close to the limb on 22 May 1970. Differential very-long-baseline interferometric observations of signals from Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package telemetry transmitters will yield the relative projected positions of the transmitters with uncertainty of only 1-3 m, set mainly by uncertainty of the lunar ephemeris. Noise and systematic instrumental errors which in the past affected similar observations have been reduced to the equivalent of a few centimeters on the lunar surface by the development of a new type of differential receiver. Continued observations should yield a determination of the motion of the Moon about its center of mass with uncertainty less than 1 s of selenocentric arc. Improvements (by other means) in our knowledge of the Moon's orbital motion would allow a further order-of-magnitude refinement in the libration and relative position results obtainable by differential VLBI.Communication presented at the conference on Lunar Dynamics and Observational Coordinate Systems held January 15–17, 1973 at the Lunar Science Institute, Houston, Tex. Although now four seismic stations are operating on the Moon the determination of epicenters and mechanisms of moonquakes is still problematic. On the Moon no decoupling of compressional, transverse, and surface waves takes place, no clear first arrivals can be found, and coherence between vertical and horizontal components of a seismograph station is poor. New methods of locating epicenters are presented. They consist of a statistical analysis of the first arrival groups and correlation of components of tidal forces to arrival times in relation to perigee. Certain regions of the Moon, as for instance the Eastern boundary of Mare Nubium, can be considered highly suspicious as possible source region; others have to be ruled out as here triggering by tidal stress seems highly improbable. From various possible mechanisms a connection with a degassing of the Moon seems to offer an acceptable explanation.  相似文献
