The R?anovo deposit is a unique example of metamorphosed lateritic Fe-Ni deposits in the wellknown Vardar ophiolitic belt of the Balkans, where Fe-Ni mineralization is a product of the Early Cretaceous lateritic weathering mantle after Jurassic ultramafic rocks subsequently redeposited into the Cretaceous shallow-water marine basin. As a result, a layer of Fe-Ni ore 30–50 m thick with an average Ni grade of ~1% was formed at the R?anovo deposit; this layer is traced for more than 4 km along the strike and 500 m down the dip. At the end of the Late Cretaceous, intense Alpine tectonic faulting and folding resulted in overturning of the initially horizontal ore layer, which is now nearly vertical. The most abundant fissile hematite ore contains 0.70–1.27% Ni, whereas the economically most important massive hematite ore with 0.93–1.49% Ni occurs locally. The major Ni-bearing minerals are magnetite, hematite, chromite, sulfides, talc, chlorite, amphibole, and stilpnomelane.  相似文献

This work is dedicated to interpretation of the results of complex laboratory petrophysical studies of core samples of the rocks of the Bazhenovkaya Formation from several wells at Western Siberian deposits. The major aim of this study is the comparison and substantiation of analytical results that were obtained by various methods of determination of petrophysical rock properties, which is necessary to reveal the methods of complex petrophysical studies that are the most correct and applicable for the rocks of the Bazhenovskaya Formation.  相似文献

Felsic tuff beds with some presumed sedimentary components were reported from the Owk Shale (Kurnool Group; bearing Neoproterozoic fossils) in the upper part of the sedimentary succession in the Cuddapah basin in India by Saha and Tripathy (2012a). Our optical and SEM petrographic study of three thin sections, however, indicates that the parent samples are sandy mudstones with variable amounts of a felsic volcaniclastic component. New highquality U-Pb (SHRIMP and LA-MC-ICPMS) ages of 133 detrital zircon grains from a sample show that one grain is ca. 1880 Ma, one grain is ca. 3300 Ma, and the ages of the remaining 131 grains fall between 2690 Ma and 2429 Ma, the population averaging 2522 ± 36 Ma. The data indicate that the zircons are detrital grains derived from the ca. 2.5 Ga granitic/gneissic/greenstone basement of the Dharwar cratons that also host minor older Archean enclaves. The single 1880 Ma grain could have come from a ca. 1.9 Ga LIP. In the absence of any younger magmatic zircon, the absolute age of the Owk Shale remains elusive.  相似文献

Semi-empirical models based on Newmark’s sliding block permit the estimation of expected co-seismic displacements in relation to one or more parameters which characterize the ground motion that theoretically caused them. Taking this into consideration, a regression analysis, based on a double-phase viscoplastic (DPV) model, was developed using 96 Italian ground motion accelerograms for a total of 1,448 combinations obtained for different parametric conditions of the indefinite slope model. Repeated stability analysis, performed by means of the DPV model, allows for the assessment of the seismic instability of a slope in relation to different reached behaviour levels, as well as seismically induced permanent displacements. At these behaviour levels, co-seismic increases and possible subsequent decreases of viscoplastic shear strengths are associated. This implies that the post-seismic persistent mobility (collapse) of the slope can be obtained from the computation. On the other hand, coherently with the increasing of shear resistances during fast sliding displacements in clay soils, the seismic-forced displacements result substantially lower than corresponding values obtained by means of the rigorous Newmark’s sliding block. In addition, in relation to some seismic ground motion parameters, regression and functional border and separation curves were obtained with the aim of providing an expeditious seismic slope stability evaluation in reference to the co-seismic and post-seismic behaviour of clayey slopes. Regarding this, the real behaviour of two historical landslide events is discussed in the light of the results of the regression analysis outlined in this work.  相似文献

On 24 January 2012, a fatal landslide with an estimated volume of 3 Mm3 hit villagers and infrastructure in the Tagali Valley, Southern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). Although a moderate event by PNG standards, the associated human casualties and infrastructure destruction give a human as well as a scientific need to review the potential causes for the event. PNG experiences numerous landslides annually, most of which are trigged either by rainfall events or seismic activity. Here, we review the short-term rainfall patterns leading up to the slope failure at Tumbi Quarry and compare the rainfall accumulations obtained over durations of 30, 60 and 90 days prior to the landslide, with comparable rainfall accumulations obtained for other failures observed in PNG over a 12-year period. Additionally, a review of long-term rainfall over a period of 6 months prior to the failure is completed as well as an assessment of seismic activity. Based on our analysis, we believe a seismic trigger to be very unlikely, while the increase in rainfall in the 2 weeks prior to the failure in conjunction with a high-intensity rainfall event at the end of October 2011 could have had a greater influence in enhancing rather than restraining slope failure. This, in addition to natural denudational processes, geological structure and the anthropogenic activity in the vicinity of the landslide, could all have served to affect slope stability.  相似文献

Radiolarians from the lower part of the Karai Formation (upper Albian-middle Cenomanian) are studied in detail for the first time. Among over 50 radiolarian species identified in the formation, there are Acaeniotyle amplissima (Foreman), Savaryella novalensis (Squinabol), S. quadra (Foreman), Vitorfus campbelli Pessagno, Archaeodictyomitra montisserei (Squinabol), Holocryptocanium barbui Dumitrica, Pseudoeucyrtis sp. cf. Ps. spinosa (Squinabol), Stichomitra communis Squinabol, Tubilustrionella transmontanum (O’Dogherty), and others. The discovered radiolarians are divided into the Halesium triacanthum-Orbiculiforma nevadaenis (late Albian-early Cenomanian), Crucella latum-Cryptamphorella micropora (late Albian?-early Cenomanian), and Becus sp. B-Godia concava (terminal Albian-middle Cenomanian) assemblages. In general, the Albian-Cenomanian radiolarians of South India are comparatively less diverse than the concurrent assemblages of the Mediterranean region and California. In taxonomic composition and morphological peculiarities, they are comparable with the Aptian-Albian radiolarians of Western Australia (Ellis, 1993). Consequently it can be postulated that sea basins of South India were situated during the Albian-Cenomanian in the temperate latitudes of the Southern Hemisphere.  相似文献

The risk evaluation model CAPRA (Comprehensive Approach to Probabilistic Risk Assessment) is a techno-scientific methodology and information platform, composed of tools for evaluating and communicating risk at various territorial levels. The model allows evaluating losses on exposed elements using probabilistic metrics, such as the loss exceedance curve, the expected annual loss and the probable maximum loss, useful for multi-hazard risk analyses. In this article, the process of probabilistic seismic risk analysis is described, explaining the main features of the CAPRA modules of hazard, vulnerability and risk estimation applied to the city of Barcelona, Spain. In addition, according to the physical risk results and the information on the socioeconomic indicators of the city, this article presents the holistic evaluation of seismic risk, which is a valuable result to facilitate the integrated risk management by the different stakeholders involved in risk reduction decision making.  相似文献

The Early Devonian, Maccullochs Range beds (new) of the Winduck Interval largely comprise non-marine fine-grained sheet-flood-deposited sandstones which lie in the southeast sector of the Darling Basin Conjugate Fault System. Deposition of the >2.5 km-thick sequence occurred on the Wilcannia, Towers and Coolabah Bore alluvial fans, that were sourced largely from lightly indurated sandstone caps overlying a large basement high lying north of the Darling River Lineament, and also from west of Maccullochs Range (Coolabah Bore Fan). Four lithofacies are recognised. Lithofacies 1, massive sandstone, is proximal and was deposited from hyperconcentrated sheet floods. The more distal lithofacies 2 is partly massive, partly laminated and partly affected by soft sediment slumping during its deposition. It contains 1.3 – 3.5 m-thick sheet-flood successions that rarely show cross-bedding. Lithofacies 3 and 4 are minor: lithofacies 3, stream-flood deposited, comprises coarse-grained, pebbly sandstone and lithofacies 4, transient playa lake deposits that are locally intercalated with lithofacies 2. In lithofacies 2, thick massive fine-grained sandstone is commonly overlain by laminated sandstone that was deformed when soft. Incised channel deposits in lithofacies 2 deposits are rare and palaeosols were not discovered. Permanency of the positions of two of the alluvial fans, and by inference their feeder streams, remained unchanged for ~9 million years. The fans overlie probable floodplain deposits observed in a quarry in the easternmost part of the study area. Marine fossils are very minor in the range—the brachiopod Howellella jaqueti at one locality indicates an Early Devonian age for one of the brief marine incursions into what was normally an alluvial-fan environment. Very brief marine incursions elsewhere in the group are deduced from the presence of very rare fossil gastropods.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal distribution of near-shore fresh submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) was characterised from the coastal aquifers of the Willunga Basin, South Australia, an extensive aquifer system that supports an important viticultural region. Measurements of electrical conductivity (EC) and 222Rn (radon) activity were collected at 19 sites along the coastline during the Southern Hemisphere spring (2011) and summer (2013). At each site, samples were collected from the surf zone as well asporewater from beach sediment in the intertidal zone. Surf-zone radon activity ranged from <5 to 70mBq L–1, and intertidal porewater radon ranged over two orders of magnitude (220–36 940 mBq L–1) along the Willunga Basin coastline during both surveys. Overall, surf-zone and porewater EC was lower in the spring 2011 survey than in the summer 2013 survey. Porewater EC was similar to that of coastal water at most sites along the coastline, except at three sites where porewater EC was found to be lower than coastal water during both surveys, and three sites where evaporated seawater was observed in the summer survey. Based on the patterns in radon and EC along the coastline, two sites of localised fresh SGD were identified, in addition to a groundwater spring that is known to discharge to the coast. The results indicate that near-shore fresh SGD occurs as localised seeps rather than diffuse seepage along the entire coastline. The apparent absence of groundwater discharge at most locations is also consistent with current evidence suggesting that extensive groundwater pumping within the basin has resulted in seawater intrusion across much of the coastline. These observations also suggest that previous studies are likely to have over-estimated SGD rates from the Willunga Basin because they assumed that SGD occurred along the entire coastline.  相似文献

Lake George contains the longest continuous sedimentary record of any Australian lake basin, but previous age models are equivocal, particularly for the oldest (pre-Quaternary) part of the record. We have applied a combination of cosmogenic nuclide burial dating, magnetostratigraphy and biostratigraphy to determine the age of the basal (fluvial) unit in the basin, the Gearys Gap Formation. Within the differing resolutions achievable by the three dating techniques, our results show that (i) the Gearys Gap Formation, began accumulating at ca 4 Ma, in the early Pliocene (Zanclean), and (ii) deposition had ceased by ca 3 Ma, in the mid late Pliocene (Piacenzian). Whether the same age control provides an early Pliocene (Zanclean) age for the formation of the lake basin is uncertain. During the Piacenzian, the vegetation at the core site was a wetland community dominated by members of the coral fern family Gleicheniaceae, while the surrounding dryland vegetation was a mix of sclerophyll and temperate rainforest communities, with the latter including trees and shrubs now endemic to New Guinea–New Caledonia and Tasmania. Mean annual rainfall and temperatures are inferred to have been ~2000–3000 mm, although probably not uniformly distributed throughout the year, and within the mesotherm range (>14°C <20°C), respectively. Unresolved issues are: (1) Does the basal gravel unit predate uplift of the Lake George Range and therefore provide evidence that one of the proposed paleo-spillways of Lake George, that above Geary's Gap, has been elevated up to 100–200 m by neotectonic activity over the past 4 million years? (2) Did a shallow to deepwater lake exist elsewhere in the lake basin during the Pliocene?  相似文献
