The most labour-intensive and time-consuming part of many mass balance programmes is the acquisition of snow depth data. The standard technique, which involves probing the snow cover at intervals along a series of profiles, generally by an individual on skis, may involve more than 300 discrete measurements along a total of more than 20 km of profiling at a single glacier. Kinematic surveying with a global positioning system (GPS) in differential mode provides much more information about changes of glacier surface level and snow thickness between surveys. The positions of a large number of points can be fixed in a relatively short time by GPS surveying, and the technique is usable in adverse weather conditions. With real-time kinematic GPS surveying, it is possible to return to the same positions (longitude, latitude) during successive field programmes, and a previously followed route can be retraced precisely. GPS surveying facilitates the production of accurate glacier maps for mass balance programmes. Data obtained by snow depth probing and GPS surveying in 1995 at Austre Okstindbreen, the largest glacier of the Okstindan area, Norway (66°N), indicate that repeated GPS surveys are likely to provide a large amount of information on withinyear and between-year changes of surface topography and are not subject to the errors in mass balance calculations which arise from probing snow depths along selected profiles. Kinematic GPS surveying of several glaciers within an area would overcome the difficulties arising when mass balance studies are confined to a single glacier within a particular area. 相似文献

In December of 1994 a fluid injection experiment which triggered several hundreds of microearthquakes was conducted at the KTB main borehole (Oberpfalz, Germany). These events were recorded with a temporal seismic network at the surface. Out of the complete data set, a cluster of five events recorded at four mini-arrays consisting of eight or nine stations was used to investigate the crustal scattering properties in the vicinity of the KTB. For this purpose, the 'Double Beam Method' (DBM; Krüger et al . 1993 , 1995 , 1996) and the 'Double Beam Imaging Method' (Scherbaum, Krüger & Weber 1997) were extended to curved wave fronts to drop the restriction of plane-wave propagation. This technique is used for imaging the crustal scattering strength using earthquake clusters recorded at close-by mini-arrays. The results of the array analysis show that the composition of the P coda is mainly affected by the site location of the arrays. Near-surface and deeper crustal scattering contribute in a very complicated pattern. Furthermore, with the present data set it was possible to identify reflections from the top of the Erbendorf Body. This is a very pronounced arrival in most of the recorded traces. In one of the arrays its amplitudes are even greater than the direct P phases. Five to eight coherent phases could be identified by the mini-arrays. Using only these phases, synthetic P -coda traces were constructed, which only contain the coherent part of the observed wavefield. By subtracting the synthetic coherent wavefield from the original traces we achieve a variance reduction in the P coda of up to 37 per cent. This leads to the conclusion that a large amount of the P coda at the KTB can be modelled by a simple deterministic single-scattering model using a small number of individual scatterers. 相似文献

Micrometeorological measurements (including eddy-covariance measurements of the surface fluxes of sensible and latent heat) were performed during the LITFASS-2003 experiment at 13 field sites over different types of land use (forest, lake, grassland, various agricultural crops) in a 20 × 20 km2 area around the Meteorological Observatory Lindenberg (MOL) of the German Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD). Significant differences in the energy fluxes could be found between the major land surface types (forest, farmland, water), but also between the different agricultural crops (cereals, rape, maize). Flux ratios between the different surfaces changed during the course of the experiment as a result of increased water temperature of the lake, changing soil moisture, and of the vegetation development at the farmland sites. The measurements over grass performed at the boundary-layer field site Falkenberg of the MOL were shown to be quite representative for the farmland part of the area. Measurements from the 13 sites were composed into a time series of the area-averaged surface flux by taking into account the data quality of the single flux values from the different sites and the relative occurrence of each surface type in the area. Such composite fluxes could be determined for about 80% of the whole measurement time during the LITFASS-2003 experiment. Comparison of these aggregated surface fluxes with area-averaged fluxes from long-range scintillometer measurements and from airborne measurements showed good agreement. 相似文献

中国北方典型沙地处于东亚季风边缘区半干旱气候带,对气候变化响应敏感.本文对已有的该区域古气候记录文献资料进行整理分析和评估,对末次盛冰期与全新世大暖期两个特征时间段的古温度与古降雨量空间格局进行定量化重建,获得了其分布特征.结果表明,在末次盛冰期(约26 ~ 16ka)温度降低了5~11℃,变率为60%~200%,降温极值在黄土高原南缘;降雨量减少180 ~ 350mm,变率为50%左右,东北地区降雨量变化不大.在全新世大暖期(约9 ~ 5ka),温度升高了1.0 ~3.5℃,变率为20%~130%;降雨量增加了30 ~ 400mm,变率为10% ~120%,其中存在一些需剔除的奇异点,从东部沿海向西北内陆降雨量增幅有加大趋势.上述结果为进一步探讨中国北方干旱-半干旱区古气候变化机理、检验东亚季风区古气候数值模拟结果等提供了定量化数据. 相似文献

It is shown that especially at the beginning of the night (when stratification is weak) one can not expect any significant profile structure in the upper part of the SBL if its depth is determined in terms of common turbulent height scales. From this it is concluded that the SBL-height will be underestimated early in the night when derived from the maximum gradient in the signal intensity profiles. Later in the night in contrast, the computations often show elevated maxima or even zones with reduced, and above them enhanced, vertical gradients ofC

are shown to be in qualitative agreement with observed profiles of sodar signal intensity for several analysed cases from the HAPEX-MOBILHY experiment.Comparing different SBL-depth scales with sodar observations, it is demonstrated that most of them are often closely related to a sodar-derived SBL-height only during certain phases of the night. A robust change in the tropical circulation induced by anthropogenic warming in CMIP3 models is a weakening of the Walker circulation. This weakening affects the upper tropospheric divergence thereby modifying the propagation of Rossby waves from the tropics into the extra-tropics. It can be modeled by the barotropic vorticity equation forced with a Rossby wave source that is computed from the upper tropospheric divergence. Using the BVE as a diagnostic tool it is demonstrated for the CMIP3 models that the weakening of the Walker circulation has a significant impact on the extra-tropical planetary wave structure and to a large extent explains the projected changes in the mid tropospheric meridional wind in the CMIP3 models. The dominant response is a wave number five pattern similar to the circumglobal waveguide pattern. This analysis implies that a correct simulation of the Walker circulation and its response to anthropogenic changes are crucial for a correct simulation of the anthropogenic change in the extra-tropical planetary wave structure. Structure and intensity of the Walker circulation of the CMIP3 models show significant deviations from the Walker circulation as diagnosed from the ERA-interim and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis. Improving the simulation of the Walker circulation is a prerequisite to narrow the uncertainty in the projected anthropogenic change in the extra-tropical planetary wave structure. 相似文献

Muscle tissue of chinook salmon, Oncorhyncus tshawytscha, reared for 3 to 19 months in sea pens treated with an antifouling biocide, tri-n-butyltin (TBT), contained organotin concentrations of 0.28–0.90 μg g−1 (as TBT). Organotins are present in some pen-reared salmon sold in the United States: eleven of 15 salmon advertised as aquaculture products and purchased from public markets contained organotin concentrations of 0.081–0.20 μg g−1. Most common cooking practices do not effectively destroy or remove butyltins from salmon muscle tissue. We believe this is the first evidence of entry of organotins into the human diet in the United States. 相似文献

A wetting and drying (WAD) algorithm is implemented in a baroclinic three-dimensional ocean circulation model of Cook Inlet,
Alaska, where large tidal ranges (≈10 m) regularly expose extensive mudflats. The model includes tides and wind- and buoyancy-induced
flows. In the upper Inlet, the model successfully simulates large amplification of tides and propagation of fast (3 ∼ 4 m
s−1) tidal bores over shallow mudflats. The simulated return flows during ebb expose large areas (∼100 km2) of the mudflats. Medium-resolution (250- and 500-m) images obtained from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer
(MODIS) instruments aboard the Terra and Aqua satellites were used to verify the model results by identifying the location,
extent, and temporal changes of the exposed mudflat regions. The results demonstrate the value of operational, medium-resolution
remote sensing data in evaluating the WAD model. Sensitivity tests show that WAD produces approximately 20% larger tidal amplitude
and 10% slower phase than the corresponding experiment without WAD. In the deep channel of the central Inlet, the confluence
of saline water of the lower Inlet with brackish water from rivers and melting ice from land around the upper Inlet produces
a salinity front. At the simulated front, strong vertical circulation cells and surface convergence and currents develop,
especially during the flood. The characteristics resemble those of “rip tides” often observed in this region. 相似文献

在回顾五峰组-龙马溪组两个地层单位沿革并重申其定义与划分基础上,重建了华南五峰组-龙马溪组及其相关地层序列的区域地层框架.根据这一框架中奥陶-志留纪黑色笔石岩系的穿时性、以及相关地层序列纵向演化特征与岩石圈板块挠曲模式的联系,结合所发现钾质斑脱岩源岩的板块汇聚背景,以及该阶段海平面升降与黑色岩系对应关系,提出控制该阶段华南黑色岩系的时空展布格局的主要因素有两个,即该阶段自南东向北西的华夏地块与扬子地块幕式汇聚过程所产生的岩石圈板块挠曲-周缘前陆盆地的同向迁移,以及该阶段两次全球性的三级海平面变化快速上升阶段所导致的缺氧及欠补偿水体.本文认为,要在华南奥陶-志留纪(包括其他断代)寻找其他可能的烃源岩层位,可能要首先考虑类似背景下这两种因素综合作用所导致的快速沉降及深水缺氧的沉积环境. 相似文献
