The StokesV asymmetries observed in solar faculae can be interpreted by invoking the presence of magnetic and velocity fields variations along the line-of-sight. By means of a perturbative approach, we develop the theoretical dependence on magnetic and velocity fields of the StokesV profile around its zero-crossing point. We find that the empirical curves of growth for theV zero-crossing point and the slope, as well as the curve of growth for the integral (previously derived by Sánchez Almeidaet al., 1989, through the same approach), are reproduced quite well with a single atmosphere which assumes such simultaneous variations.The depth dependence of the fields that give the best fit in our model presents several striking properties which cannot be released without totally compromising the goodness of the fit. Namely, the magnetic field strength increases towards the observer while the downflowing velocity field decreases. Both variations must occur co-spatially, in the same atmospheric layers. This fact seems to contradict theoretical models for the fanning out parts of magnetic concentrations which foresee a sharp separation between a static magnetic layer and a deep zone with velocity fields. We discuss a possible solution of such contradiction in terms of a finite optical thickness of the boundary layer between zones with and without magnetic field in faculae.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

Nonlinear frequency shift of space-charge waves in a relativistic electron or positron beam is analyzed. The frequency shift is shown to be a function of the wave amplitude. It is suggested that the frequency shift of beam space-charge waves may be a saturation mechanism for astrophysical free-electron lasers.  相似文献

Equations of thermal equilibrium along coronal loops with footpoint temperatures of 2 × 104 K are solved. Three fundamentally different categories of solution are found, namely hot loops with summit temperatures above about 4 × 105 K, cool loops which are cooler than 8 × 104 K along their whole length and hot-cool loops which have summit temperatures around 2 × 104 K but much hotter parts at intermediate points between the summit and the footpoints. Hot loops correspond to the hot corona of the Sun. The cool loops are of relevance for fibrils, for the cool cores observed by Foukal and also for active-region prominences where the magnetic field is directed mainly along the prominence. Quiescent prominences consist of many cool threads inclined to the prominence axis, and each thread may be modelled as a hot-cool loop. In addition, it is possible for warm loops at intermediate summit temperatures (8 × 104K to 4 × 105 K) to exist, but the observed differential emission measure suggests that most of the plasma in the solar atmosphere is in either the hot phase or the cool phase. Thermal catastrophe may occur when the length or pressure of a loop is so small that the hot solution ceases to exist and there are only cool loop solutions. Many loops can be superimposed to form a coronal arcade which contains loops of several different types.  相似文献

Visible photometry of the RS CVn system AR Lac is presented. We find some interesting features in the light curves. Also a possible oscillation with period 1.05 hr arises from the data. The post-Newtonian approximation for general relativity is widely adopted by the geodesy and astronomy communities. It has been successfully exploited for the inclusion of relativistic effects in practically all geodetic applications and techniques such as satellite/lunar laser ranging and very long baseline interferometry. Presently, the levels of accuracy required in geodetic techniques require that reference frames, planetary and satellite orbits and signal propagation be treated within the post-Newtonian regime. For arbitrary scalar W and vector gravitational potentials \(W^j (j=1,2,3)\), we present a novel derivation of the energy associated with a test particle in the post-Newtonian regime. The integral so obtained appears not to have been given previously in the literature and is deduced through algebraic manipulation on seeking a Jacobi-like integral associated with the standard post-Newtonian equations of motion. The new integral is independently verified through a variational formulation using the post-Newtonian metric components and is subsequently verified by numerical integration of the post-Newtonian equations of motion.  相似文献

We present the final part of the catalog of cosmic gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observed in the PHEBUS experiment on the Granat orbiting astrophysical observatory. The first three parts of the catalog were published by Terekhov et al. (1994, 1995a) and Tkachenko et al. (1998). The fourth part contains information on 32 events recorded from October 1994 until December 1996. We give burst light curves in the energy range 100 keV to 1.6 MeV, integrated energy spectra, and information on the fluence and energy flux at the luminosity peak for energies above 100 keV. Over the entire period of its operation, the PHEBUS instrument detected 206 cosmic GRBs. The mean ?V/Vmax? was 0.336±0.007. The mean hardness corresponding to the ratio of count numbers in the energy ranges 400–1000 and 100–400 keV is 0.428±0.018 for events with a duration shorter than 2 s and 0.231±0.004 for events with a duration longer than 2 s.  相似文献

Numerical simulations of the Sun's mean line-of-sight magnetic field suggest an origin for the 28-to 29-day recurrent patterns of the field and its associated interplanetary phenomena. The patterns are caused by longitudinal fluctuations in the eruption of new magnetic flux, the transport of this flux to mid latitudes by supergranular diffusion and meridional flow, and the slow rotation of the resulting flux distributions at the 28- to 29-day periods characteristic of those latitudes.E. The isothermal solar wind equations are solved for the case where the coronal conditions vary with latitude. It is found that the solutions are not uniquely determined by the base density but require knowledge of the injection angle of the fluid. Even for the case of spherically symmetric density at the corona, the solutions are not unique and form a one parameter set, but the latitude variation decreases rapidly with increasing heliocentric distance.  相似文献

Application of boundary value techniques in the case of an electron performing relativistic motions within a magnetic dipole such as that of the Earth supplemented by a scanning process by means of which the entire phase space of the problem can be investigated, six new types of periodic motion have been discovered and computed. More than a thousand interactions of primary heavy nuclei of the cosmic radiation with charge ≥10 and energy >1 GeV nucleon?1 in nuclear emulsion have been studied with emphasis on how the primary nucleus fragments. It has been determined that the cases of multiple successive fragmentations that have been observed do not occur more frequently than expected. The fragmentation ofZ>20 nuclei does depend on the target nucleus to some extent so it is important to try to separate the interactions in emulsion by theirN h (number of evaporation prongs). The fragmentation of 8 16 O at 2.1 GeV nucleon?1 measured at the Bevalac shows a similar dependence on target nucleus. By using data from these new interactions combined with published data we have simulated on a computer nuclear cascades in both emulsion and air. Results on these cascades are given for both primary silicon and primary iron nuclei. These results are used to discuss the fluctuations expected in extensive air showers produced by heavy primary nuclei.  相似文献
