We investigate daily and sub-daily non-tidal oceanic and atmospheric loading (NTOAL) in the Australian region and put an upper bound on potential site motion examining the effects of tropical cyclone Yasi that crossed the Australian coast in January/February 2011. The dynamic nature of the ocean is important, particularly for northern Australia where the long-term scatter due to daily and sub-daily oceanic changes increases by 20–55 % compared to that estimated using the inverted barometer (IB) assumption. Correcting the daily Global Positioning System (GPS) time series for NTOAL employing either a dynamic ocean model or the IB assumption leads to a reduction of up to 52 % in the weighted scatter of daily coordinate estimates. Differences between the approaches are obscured by seasonal variations in the GPS precision along the northern coast. Two compensating signals during the cyclone require modelling at high spatial and temporal resolution: uplift induced by the atmospheric depression, and subsidence induced by storm surge. The latter dominates ( \(>\) 135 %) the combined net effect that reaches a maximum of 14 mm, and 10 mm near the closest GPS site TOW2. Here, 96 % of the displacement is reached within 15 h due to the rapid transit of cyclones and the quasi-linear nature of the coastline. Consequently, estimating sub-daily NTOAL is necessary to properly account for such a signal that can be 3.5 times larger than its daily-averaged value. We were unable to detect the deformation signal in 2-hourly GPS processing and show that seasonal noise in the Austral summer dominates and precludes GPS detection of the cyclone-related subsidence. 相似文献

Hyperspectral remote sensing research was conducted to document the biophysical and biochemical characteristics of controlled forest plots subjected to various nutrient and irrigation treatments. The experimental plots were located on the Savannah River Site near Aiken, SC. AISA hyperspectral imagery were analysed using three approaches, including: (1) normalized difference vegetation index based simple linear regression (NSLR), (2) partial least squares regression (PLSR) and (3) machine-learning regression trees (MLRT) to predict the biophysical and biochemical characteristics of the crops (leaf area index, stem biomass and five leaf nutrients concentrations). The calibration and cross-validation results were compared between the three techniques. The PLSR approach generally resulted in good predictive performance. The MLRT approach appeared to be a useful method to predict characteristics in a complex environment (i.e. many tree species and numerous fertilization and/or irrigation treatments) due to its powerful adaptability. 相似文献

Defining a model for the representation and the analysis of spatio‐temporal dynamics remains an open domain in geographical information sciences. In this article we investigate a spatio‐temporal graph‐based model dedicated to managing and extracting sets of geographical entities related in space and time. The approach is based on spatial and temporal local relations between neighboring entities during consecutive times. The model allows us to extract sets of connected entities distant in time and space over long periods and large spaces. From GIS concepts and qualitative reasoning on space and time, we combine the graph model with a dedicated spatial database. It includes information on geometry and geomorphometric parameters, and on spatial and temporal relations. This allows us to extend classical measurements of spatial parameters, with comparisons of entities linked by complex relations in space and time. As a case study, we show how the model suggests an efficient representation of dunes dynamics on a nautical chart for safe navigation. 相似文献

A system for managing and visualizing archaeological finds and their spatio-temporal properties is presented. The system is an attempt to combine archaeologists' interest to keep track of time with interests related to the representation and visualization of the spatio-temporal component of archaeological excavations, with the help of cartographic and GIS methods and techniques. Several parameters of a prehistoric excavation such as finds, their thematic characteristics, and their spatio-temporal distributions are examined. A three-dimensional GIS/cartographic environment and its user interface to the excavation database have been developed as a tool for enhancing archaeological interpretation in an exploratory environment. Precise transformation between the celestial reference frames (CRF) and terrestrial reference frames (TRF) is needed for many purposes in Earth and space sciences. According to the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) recommendations, the accuracy of positions and stability of reference frames should reach 1 mm and 0.1 mm year\(^{-1}\), and thus, the Earth Orientation Parameters (EOP) should be estimated with similar accuracy. Different realizations of TRFs, based on the combination of solutions from four different space geodetic techniques, and CRFs, based on a single technique only (VLBI, Very Long Baseline Interferometry), might cause a slow degradation of the consistency among EOP, CRFs, and TRFs (e.g., because of differences in geometry, orientation and scale) and a misalignment of the current conventional EOP series, IERS 08 C04. We empirically assess the consistency among the conventional reference frames and EOP by analyzing the record of VLBI sessions since 1990 with varied settings to reflect the impact of changing frames or other processing strategies on the EOP estimates. Our tests show that the EOP estimates are insensitive to CRF changes, but sensitive to TRF variations and unmodeled geophysical signals at the GGOS level. The differences between the conventional IERS 08 C04 and other EOP series computed with distinct TRF settings exhibit biases and even non-negligible trends in the cases where no differential rotations should appear, e.g., a drift of about 20 \(\upmu \)as year\(^{-1 }\)in \(y_{\mathrm{pol }}\) when the VLBI-only frame VTRF2008 is used. Measurements of soil moisture are important for studies of climate and weather forecasting, flood prediction, and aquifer
recharge studies. Although soil moisture measurement networks exist, most are sparsely distributed and lack standardized instrumentation.
Measurements of soil moisture from satellites have extremely large spatial footprints (40–60 km). A methodology is described
here that uses existing networks of continuously-operating GPS receivers to measure soil moisture fluctuations. In this technique,
incoming signals are reflected off and attenuated by the ground before reception by the GPS receiver. These multipath reflections
directly affect signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) data routinely collected by GPS receivers, creating amplitude variations that
are a function of ground reflectivity and therefore soil moisture content. After describing this technique, multipath reflection
amplitudes at a GPS site in Tashkent, Uzbekistan are compared to estimates of soil moisture from the Noah land surface model.
Although the GPS multipath amplitudes and the land surface model are uncalibrated, over the 70-day period studied, they both
rise sharply following each rainfall event and slowly decrease over a period of ∼10 days. 相似文献

A Kalman filter-based method combining the energy of both L1 C/A and L2C GPS signals in a combined tracking loop method to
enhance performance under adverse conditions is developed. Standard tracking methods and the ionospheric effect on GPS signals
are reviewed and compared to a new Kalman filter that simultaneously estimates delay, phase and total electron content by
combining L1 C/A and L2C code and phase discriminator outputs. The new filter is tested and compared to standard methods for
tracking L1 C/A and L2C using both simulated and real data. The new method is found to have improved sensitivity of 3 dB compared
to standard L1 tracking and 4.5 dB compared to standard L2C tracking while at the same time providing an accurate estimate

The International GNSS Service (IGS) contributes to the construction of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF)
by submitting time series of station positions and Earth Rotation Parameters (ERP). For the first time, its submission to
the ITRF2008 construction is based on a combination of entirely reprocessed GPS solutions delivered by 11 Analysis Centers
(ACs). We analyze the IGS submission and four of the individual AC contributions in terms of the GNSS frame origin and scale,
station position repeatability and time series seasonal variations. We show here that the GPS Terrestrial Reference Frame
(TRF) origin is consistent with Satellite laser Ranging (SLR) at the centimeter level with a drift lower than 1 mm/year. Although
the scale drift compared to Very Long baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and SLR mean scale is smaller than 0.4 mm/year, we think
that it would be premature to use that information in the ITRF scale definition due to its strong dependence on the GPS satellite
and ground antenna phase center variations. The new position time series also show a better repeatability compared to past
IGS combined products and their annual variations are shown to be more consistent with loading models. The comparison of GPS
station positions and velocities to those of VLBI via local ties in co-located sites demonstrates that the IGS reprocessed
solution submitted to the ITRF2008 is more reliable and precise than any of the past submissions. However, we show that some
of the remaining inconsistencies between GPS and VLBI positioning may be caused by uncalibrated GNSS radomes. 相似文献

Time-relative positioning makes use of observations taken at two different epochs and stations with a single global positioning
system (GPS) receiver to determine the position of the unknown station with respect to the known station. The limitation of
this method is the degradation over time of the positioning accuracy due to the temporal variation of GPS errors (ionospheric
delay, satellite clock corrections, satellite ephemerides, and tropospheric delay). The impact of these errors is significantly
reduced by adding to the one-way move from the known to the unknown station, a back move to the known station. A loop misclosure
is computed from the coordinates obtained at the known station at the beginning and at the end of the loop, and is used to
correct the coordinates of the unknown station. The field tests, presented in this paper, show that using the loop misclosure
corrections, time-relative positioning accuracy can be improved by about 60% when using single frequency data, and by about
40% with dual frequency data. For a 4-min processing interval (an 8-min loop) and a 95% probability level, errors remain under
20 cm for the horizontal components and 36 cm for the vertical component with single frequency data; and under 11 cm for the
horizontal components and 29 cm for the vertical component with dual frequency data. 相似文献
