Here we characterize the magnetic properties of the Chelyabinsk chondrite (LL5, S4, W0) and constrain the composition, concentration, grain size distribution, and mineral fabric of the meteorite's magnetic mineral assemblage. Data were collected from 10 to 1073 K and include measurements of low‐field magnetic susceptibility (χ0), the anisotropy of χ0, hysteresis loops, first‐order reversal curves, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and X‐ray microtomography. The REM and REM′ paleointensity protocols suggest that the only magnetizations recorded by the chondrite are components of the Earth's magnetic field acquired during entry into our planet's atmosphere. The Chelyabinsk chondrite consists of light and dark lithologies. Fragments of the light lithology show logχ0 = 4.57 ± 0.09 (s.d.) (n = 135), while the dark lithology shows 4.65 ± 0.09 (n = 39) (where χ0 is in 10?9 m3 kg?1). Thus, Chelyabinsk is three times more magnetic than the average LL5 fall, but is similar to a subgroup of metal‐rich LL5 chondrites (Paragould, Aldsworth, Bawku, Richmond) and L/LL5 chondrites (Glanerbrug, Knyahinya). The meteorite's room‐temperature magnetization is dominated by multidomain FeNi alloys taenite and kamacite (no tetrataenite is present). However, below approximately 75 K remanence is dominated by chromite. CCD photometry data of the T Tauri star H 187 are presented. They show that a new eclipse of this star began at the end of
2004. Since only one eclipse of this star has been observed previously with a duration of 3.5 years, our data indicate that
the eclipses of this object are periodic with a period P=4.9 years between eclipses. Thus, in terms of the absolute duration
of the eclipses and in terms of their relative length as a fraction of the period, H 187 is one of the most exotic objects
in the sky.

This paper addresses global oxygenation and establishment of a marine sulphate reservoir in the Palaeoproterozoic. We report syn-depositional, marine, anhydrite-containing pseudomorphs after Ca-sulphates as widespread throughout the Tulomozero Formation in the SE Fennoscandian Shield, implying that surface waters were oxidized and a large SO marine reservoir was developed as early as 2100 Ma. The Ca-sulphates and associated magnesite and halite precipitated syn-depositionally from oxidized, evolved and modified seawater in coastal playa, sabkha and intertidal flat settings. 87Sr/86Sr and δ13C of associated 13C-rich stromatolitic dolostones were environmentally controlled with the highest ratios occurring in playa and sabkha carbonates. The results imply that the Palaeoproterozoic δ13Ccarb excursion was amplified by 8‰ by local environmental factors and calls into question many observations of putative δ13C global signals reported previously from similar Palaeoproterozoic, evaporitic, dolostones. The local environmental amplification can explain a large regional and intercontinental δ13C discrepancy observed in synchronous carbonates. 相似文献

The whole subject of three-dimensional (3-D) electromagnetic (EM) modelling and inversion has experienced a tremendous progress
in the last decade. Accordingly there is an increased need for reviewing the recent, and not so recent, achievements in the
field. In the first part of this review paper I consider the finite-difference, finite-element and integral equation approaches
that are presently applied for the rigorous numerical solution of fully 3-D EM forward problems. I mention the merits and
drawbacks of these approaches, and focus on the most essential aspects of numerical implementations, such as preconditioning
and solving the resulting systems of linear equations. I refer to some of the most advanced, state-of-the-art, solvers that
are today available for such important geophysical applications as induction logging, airborne and controlled-source EM, magnetotellurics,
and global induction studies. Then, in the second part of the paper, I review some of the methods that are commonly used to
solve 3-D EM inverse problems and analyse current implementations of the methods available. In particular, I also address
the important aspects of nonlinear Newton-type optimisation techniques and computation of gradients and sensitivities associated

Ten years data set is used to separate the influence of IMF Bz-component and solar wind speed on the dawn-dusk component of magnetic variations in the summer polar cap. The reference level was chosen from most quiet periods of winter solstices (small polar cap and auroral zone conductivity) to exclude the inner source component. The linear regression analysis was then used to calculate the PC variation response to Bz under different ranges of solar wind speed. As a result, taking into account the value of polar cap conductivity and effects of induced currents, the response of dawn-dusk electric field component to Bz and V was obtained and the potential difference across the polar cap was estimated to be for Bz ? + 1γ. The results give a proof for simultaneous operation in the magnetosphere of two electric field generation mechanisms, related to the boundary layer processes and magnetic field reconnection. The above-mentioned functional form was shown to correlate effectively with AE index (R = 0.73). 相似文献
