A considerable proportion of the world population lives and works on or near coasts. Therefore, knowledge of the physical
processes which affect the coast is very important. These include the tides of the sea and the oceanic and meteorological
circulation patterns that cause variations of the sea level and generate waves. The sea level is measured by tide-gauges,
while the height of waves may be determined by a variety of special devices. Radar systems have been applied for the sea level
and wave measurements since the late 1990s. This paper presents results from a field test or such a radar application and
aims to give the reader help and support in the selection of an appropriate radar-gauge system to measure sea level and sea

Stalagmites are important palaeo-climatic archives since their chemical and isotopic signatures have the potential to record high-resolution changes in temperature and precipitation over thousands of years. We present three U/Th-dated records of stalagmites (MA1–MA3) in the superhumid southern Andes, Chile (53°S). They grew simultaneously during the last five thousand years (ka BP) in a cave that developed in schist and granodiorite. Major and trace elements as well as the C and O isotope compositions of the stalagmites were analysed at high spatial and temporal resolution as proxies for palaeo-temperature and palaeo-precipitation. Calibrations are based on data from five years of monitoring the climate and hydrology inside and outside the cave and on data from 100 years of regional weather station records.Water-insoluble elements such as Y and HREE in the stalagmites indicate the amount of incorporated siliciclastic detritus. Monitoring shows that the quantity of detritus is controlled by the drip water rate once a threshold level has been exceeded. In general, drip rate variations of the stalagmites depend on the amount of rainfall. However, different drip-water pathways above each drip location gave rise to individual drip rate levels. Only one of the three stalagmites (MA1) had sufficiently high drip rates to record detrital proxies over its complete length. Carbonate-compatible element contents (e.g. U, Sr, Mg), which were measured up to sub-annual resolution, document changes in meteoric precipitation and related drip-water dilution. In addition, these soluble elements are controlled by leaching during weathering of the host rock and soils depending on the pH of acidic pore waters in the peaty soils of the cave’s catchment area. In general, higher rainfall resulted in a lower concentration of these elements and vice versa. The Mg/Ca record of stalagmite MA1 was calibrated against meteoric precipitation records for the last 100 years from two regional weather stations. Carbonate-compatible soluble elements show similar patterns in the three stalagmites with generally high values when drip rates and detrital tracers were low and vice versa. δ13C and δ18O values are highly correlated in each stalagmite suggesting a predominantly drip rate dependent kinetic control by evaporation and/or outgassing. Only C and O isotopes from stalagmite MA1 that received the highest drip rates show a good correlation between detrital proxy elements and carbonate-compatible elements. A temperature-related change in rainwater isotope values modified the MA1 record during the Little Ice Age (~0.7–0.1 ka BP) that was ~1.5 °C colder than today. The isotopic composition of the stalagmites MA2 and MA3 that formed at lower drip rates shows a poor correlation with stalagmite MA1 and all other chemical proxies of MA1. ‘Hendy tests’ indicate that the degassing-controlled isotope fractionation of MA2 and MA3 had already started at the cave roof, especially when drip rates were low. Changing pathways and residence times of the seepage water caused a non-climatically controlled isotope fractionation, which may be generally important in ventilated caves during phases of low drip rates. Our proxies indicate that the Neoglacial cold phases from ~3.5 to 2.5 and from ~0.7 to 0.1 ka BP were characterised by 30% lower precipitation compared with the Medieval Warm Period from 1.2 to 0.8 ka BP, which was extremely humid in this region. 相似文献

First results from the VIRGO experiment (Variability of solar IRradiance and Gravity Oscillations) on the ESA/NASA Mission SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) are reported. The observations started mid-January 1996 for the radiometers and sunphotometers and near the end of March for the luminosity oscillation imager. The performance of all the instruments is very good, and the time series of the first 4–6 months are evaluated in terms of solar irradiance variability, solar background noise characteristics and p-mode oscillations. The solar irradiance is modulated by the passage of active regions across the disk, but not all of the modulation is straightforwardly explained in terms of sunspot flux blocking and facular enhancement. Helioseismic inversions of the observed p-mode frequencies are more-or-less in agreement with the latest standard solar models. The comparison of VIRGO results with earlier ones shows evidence that magnetic activity plays a significant role in the dynamics of the oscillations beyond its modulation of the resonant frequencies. Moreover, by comparing the amplitudes of different components ofp -mode multiplets, each of which are influenced differently by spatial inhomogeneity, we have found that activity enhances excitation. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the elliptic collinear solutions of the classical n-body problem, where the n bodies always stay on a straight line, and each of them moves on its own elliptic orbit with the same eccentricity. Such a motion is called an elliptic Euler–Moulton collinear solution. Here we prove that the corresponding linearized Hamiltonian system at such an elliptic Euler–Moulton collinear solution of n-bodies splits into \((n-1)\) independent linear Hamiltonian systems, the first one is the linearized Hamiltonian system of the Kepler 2-body problem at Kepler elliptic orbit, and each of the other \((n-2)\) systems is the essential part of the linearized Hamiltonian system at an elliptic Euler collinear solution of a 3-body problem whose mass parameter is modified. Then the linear stability of such a solution in the n-body problem is reduced to those of the corresponding elliptic Euler collinear solutions of the 3-body problems, which for example then can be further understood using numerical results of Martínez et al. on 3-body Euler solutions in 2004–2006. As an example, we carry out the detailed derivation of the linear stability for an elliptic Euler–Moulton solution of the 4-body problem with two small masses in the middle. 相似文献

Measurements of spectral emittance at wavelengths from 5 to 25 m were carried out for various particulate rocks and minerals (granite, calcite, talk) in dependence on particle size. The experimentally found variation of spectral features with particle size is discussed in terms of photon's mean free path and its dependence on particle size in the wavelength regions characterized by normal and anomalous dispersion, respectively. Moreover, a sample consisting of fine- and coarse-grained material was investigated in order to estimate the chance for mineral identification at conditions relevant to remote sensing of planetary objects. The mixture spectrum comprises characteristic features of both grain size fractions. This implies that the mineralogical composition of the fine-grained fraction also should be accessible by use of high-sensitive spectrometers. 相似文献

Series expansions are widely used objects in perturbation theory in Celestial Mechanics and Physics in general. Their application nevertheless is limited due to the fact of convergence problems of the series on the one hand and constricted to regions in phase space, where small (expansion) parameters remain small on the other hand. In the mapping case, to overcome the latter problem, e.g., different expansion points are used to cover the whole phase space, resulting in a set of dynamical mappings for one dynamical system. In addition, the accuracy of such expansions depend not only on the order of truncation but also on the definition of the grid of the expansion points in phase space. A simple modification of the usual approach allows to increase the accuracy of the expanded mappings and to cover the whole phase space, where the series converge. Convergence problems due to the nonintegrability of the system can never be ruled out of the system, but the convergence of the series expansions in mapping models, which are convergent can be improved. The underlying idea is based on dynamic expansion points, which are the main subject of this article. As I will show it is possible to derive unique linear mappings, based on dynamically expanded generating functions, for the 3:1 resonance and the coupled standard map, which are valid in their whole phase spaces. 相似文献

We derive a symplectic mapping model based on Hadjidemetriou’s method for the synchronous spin-orbit problem with and without the additional precession of the nodes. The mapping is derived from the averaged potential of the spin-orbit dynamical model and includes the main spin-orbit interactions, i.e. the non-zero obliquity and wobble motion of the rotating body. In addition the orbit of the perturbing body allows non-zero inclination and eccentricity. To obtain the equilibrium configuration we calculate the position and stability of the fixed points in the 1:1 spin-orbit resonance and relate them to the equilibria of the continuous system. We use the mapping equations to investigate the long-term stability close to the fixed point solutions of the mapping. We also apply the mapping method to the case of the moon Titan and validate the mapping approach by means of numerical integrations. The mapping model reproduces all the characteristics of Deprit’s model of free rotation as well as the dynamical features of Henrard’s averaged model of spin-orbit interaction with great precision. 相似文献

Constraints on gold and copper ore grades in porphyry-style Cu–Au ± Mo deposits are re-examined, with particular emphasis
on published fluid pressure and formation depth as indicated by fluid inclusion data and geological reconstruction. Defining
an arbitrary subdivision at a molar Cu/Au ratio of 4.0 × 104, copper–gold deposits have a shallower average depth of formation (2.1 km) compared with the average depth of copper–molybdenum
deposits (3.7 km), based on assumed lithostatic fluid pressure from microthermometry. The correlation of Cu/Au ratio with
depth is primarily influenced by the variations of total Au grade. Despite local mineralogical controls within some ore deposits,
the overall Cu/Au ratio of the deposits does not show a significant correlation with the predominant type of Cu–Fe sulfide,
i.e., chalcopyrite or bornite. Primary magma source probably contributes to metal endowment on the province scale and in some
individual deposits, but does not explain the broad correlation of metal ratios with the pressure of ore formation. By comparison
with published experimental and fluid analytical data, the observed correlation of the Cu/Au ratio with fluid pressure can
be explained by dominant transport of Cu and Au in a buoyant S-rich vapor, coexisting with minor brine in two-phase magmatic
hydrothermal systems. At relatively shallow depth (approximately <3 km), the solubility of both metals decreases rapidly with
decreasing density of the ascending vapor plume, forcing both Cu and Au to be coprecipitated. In contrast, magmatic vapor
cooling at deeper levels (approximately >3 km) and greater confining pressure is likely to precipitate copper ± molybdenum
only, while sulfur-complexed gold remains dissolved in the relatively dense vapor. Upon cooling, this vapor may ultimately
contract to a low-salinity epithermal liquid, which can contribute to the formation of epithermal gold deposits several kilometers
above the Au-poor porphyry Cu–(Mo) deposit. These findings and interpretations imply that petrographic inspection of fluid
inclusion density may be used as an exploration indicator. Low-pressure brine + vapor systems are favorable for coprecipitation
of both metals, leading to Au-rich porphyry–copper–gold deposits. Epithermal gold deposits may be associated with such shallow
systems, but are likely to derive their ore-forming components from a deeper source, which may include a deeply hidden porphyry–copper
± molybdenum deposit. Exposed high-pressure brine + vapor systems, or stockwork veins containing a single type of intermediate-density
inclusions, are more likely to be prospective for porphyry–copper ± molybdenum deposits. 相似文献

The identification of non-Gaussian signatures in cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature maps is one of the main cosmological challenges today. We propose and investigate alternative methods to analyse CMB maps. Using the technique of constrained randomization, we construct surrogate maps which mimic both the power spectrum and the amplitude distribution of simulated CMB maps containing non-Gaussian signals. Analysing the maps with weighted scaling indices and Minkowski functionals yields in both cases statistically significant identification of the primordial non-Gaussianities. We demonstrate that the method is very robust with respect to noise. We also show that Minkowski functionals are able to account for non-linearities at higher noise level when applied in combination with surrogates than when only applied to noise added CMB maps and phase randomized versions of them, which only reproduce the power spectrum. 相似文献
