The results of geophysical studies conducted with selected electrical and electromagnetic methods in the Kondratowa Valley in the Tatra Mountains (the Carpathian Mountains, Poland) are presented in the article. The surveys were performed with the following methods: electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), georadar (GPR) and conductivity meter (CM). The objective of the noninvasive geophysical measurements was to determine the thickness of the Quaternary postglacial sediments that fill the bottom of the valley and to designate the accumulation of boulders deposited on Quaternary sediments. The results of ERT surveys conducted along the axis of the valley allowed to determine the changeability of the thickness of the postglacial sediments and allowed to designate a few areas of occurrence of boulders. The ERT, GPR and CM surveys conducted across the valley allowed to designate with high accuracy the thickness of the accumulation of boulders sliding down the valley bottom from the couloirs surrounding the valley. 相似文献
Around the world, several scientific projects share the interest of a global network of small Cherenkov telescopes for monitoring observations of the brightest blazars??the DWARF network. A small, ground based, imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope of last generation is intended to be installed and operated in Romania as a component of the DWARF network. To prepare the construction of the observatory, two support projects have been initiated. Within the framework of these projects, we have assessed a number of possible sites where to settle the observatory. In this paper we submit a brief report on the general characteristics of the best four sites selected after the local infrastructure, the nearby facilities and the social impact criteria have been applied. 相似文献
We present observations of a mass ejection that was observed by five different instruments along its way from the solar surface to more than 100 solar radii. The instruments involved are the ground-based H coronagraph at Wrocaw, the white-light SOLWIND coronagraph on board the P78-1 satellite, zodiacal light photometers of the HELIOS B spacecraft, in situ plasma detectors and magnetometers on board the HELIOS B spacecraft, and interplanetary scintillation measurements on the ground. By using a CAT-scan analysis of the images obtained by the SOLWIND coronagraph near the Earth and HELIOS B photometers placed at 0.3 AU perpendicular to the Earth-Sun line, we have been able to get a three-dimensional density reconstruction of the mass ejection and fit the best velocity curve for its propagation. Although problems exist in smoothly joining the height-time curves (for instance, we had to reduce the brightness of the SOLWIND data by more than a factor of two to make the data sets agree photometrically), both this analysis and direct measurements by the other experiments clearly indicate higher speeds at greater distances from the Sun. The plasma acceleration in this case was obviously not limited only to distances within 3 R0, as is usually the case, but continued beyond the outer limit of the coronagraph view at 8 R0.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. 相似文献
Cryogenic cave carbonate (CCC) represents a specific type of speleothem. Its precipitation proceeds at the freezing point and is triggered by freezing-induced concentration of solutes. Compared to classical speleothems (stalagmites, flowstones), CCC occurs as accumulations of loose uncemented aggregates. The grain sizes range from less than 1 μm to over 1 cm in diameter. Karst groundwater chemistry and its freezing rate upon entering the cave are responsible for highly variable grain morphology. Rapid freezing of water results in the formation of CCC powders with grain size typically below 50 μm. Slow freezing of water in caves (usually in systems where the CO2 escape is partly restricted; e.g., ice covered water pools) results in the formation of large mineral grains, with sizes from less than 1 mm to about 20 mm. The range of carbon and oxygen stable isotope compositions of CCC is larger than for a typical carbonate speleothem. Rapid freezing of water accompanied by a quick kinetic CO2 degassing results in large ranges of δ13C of the CCC powders (between –10‰ and +18‰ PDB). Slow freezing of water, with a restricted CO2 escape results in gradual increase of δ13C values (from −9‰ to +6‰ PDB; data ranges in individual caves are usually much more restricted), accompanied by a δ18O decrease of the precipitated carbonate (overall range from −10‰ to −24‰ PDB). These unusual trends of the carbonate δ18O evolution reflect incorporation of the heavier 18O isotope into the formed ice. New isotope data on CCC from three Romanian ice caves allow better understanding of the carbon and oxygen isotope fingerprint in carbonates precipitated from freezing of bulk water. CCCs are proposed as a new genetic group of speleothems. 相似文献
Because of their physicochemical properties, biochars can be used as sorption materials for removal of toxic substances. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether biochar obtained from cones of larch (Larix decidua Mill. subsp. decidua) and spruce (Picea abies L. H. Karst) could be used as a sorbent for Cd2+, Pb2+ and Co2+ in aqueous solutions. So far, this feedstock had not been tested in this respect. The material was subjected to pyrolysis at 500 and 600 °C for the duration of 5, 10 and 15 min. The obtained pyrolysates were found to differ in terms of pH and the contents of the essential macroelements. The different values of these parameters were determined for varying temperature, duration of the pyrolysis process and type of feedstock. Sorption capacities of the biochars for removal of Cd2+, Pb2+ and Co2+ were examined using simulated contamination of aqueous solutions with salts of these metals. The findings showed the highest, nearly complete, removal for Pb2+ were maximum 99.7%, and almost three times lower value for Cd2+ and Co2+ (respectively, 35.7 and 24.8%). It was demonstrated that pyrolysis of conifer cones produced optimum sorption capacities when the process was conducted at a temperature of 500 °C for the duration of 5 min. It was shown that products of spruce cone pyrolysis were characterized by better sorption capacity in comparison with products of larch cone pyrolysis. The properties of conifer cone biochar create the possibility of using it as an adsorbent in water and wastewater treatment as well as in production of filters and activated carbon. 相似文献
In the past years, many applications of history-matching methods in general and ensemble Kalman filter in particular have been proposed, especially in order to estimate fields that provide uncertainty in the stochastic process defined by the dynamical system of hydrocarbon recovery. Such fields can be permeability fields or porosity fields, but can also fields defined by the rock type (facies fields). The estimation of the boundaries of the geologic facies with ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) was made, in different papers, with the aid of Gaussian random fields, which were truncated using various schemes and introduced in a history-matching process. In this paper, we estimate, in the frame of the EnKF process, the locations of three facies types that occur into a reservoir domain, with the property that each two could have a contact. The geological simulation model is a form of the general truncated plurigaussian method. The difference with other approaches consists in how the truncation scheme is introduced and in the observation operator of the facies types at the well locations. The projection from the continuous space of the Gaussian fields into the discrete space of the facies fields is realized through in an intermediary space (space with probabilities). This space connects the observation operator of the facies types at the well locations with the geological simulation model. We will test the model using a 2D reservoir which is connected with the EnKF method as a data assimilation technique. We will use different geostatistical properties for the Gaussian fields and different levels of the uncertainty introduced in the model parameters and also in the construction of the Gaussian fields. 相似文献
We present a model of the subducting Cocos slab beneath Central Mexico, that provides an explanation for stresses causing the occurrence of the majority of the intraslab earthquakes which are concentrated in a long flat segment. Based on the recently developed thermal models for the Central Mexico subduction zone, the thermal stresses due to non-uniform temperature contrast in the subducting slab are calculated using a finite element approach. The slab is considered purely elastic but due to high temperature at its bottom the behavior is considered as ductile creep. The calculation results show a 20 km slab core characterized by a tensional state of stress with stresses up to 70 MPa. On the other hand, the top of the slab experiences high compressive thermal stresses up to 110 MPa, depending on the elastic constants used and location along the flat part of the subducting plate. These compressive stresses at the top of the slab are not consistent with the exclusive normal fault intraslab earthquakes, and two different sources of stress are proposed.
The trenchward migration of the Mexican volcanic arc for the last 7 Ma indicates an increase of the slab dip through time. This observation suggests that the gravity torque might exceed the suction torque. Considering the flat slab as an embedded plate subject to an applied clockwise net torque of 0.5 × 1016–1.5 × 1016 N m, the upper half would exhibit tensional stresses of 40–110 MPa that can actually balance the compressive thermally induced stresses.
An alternative stress source might come from the slab pull force caused by the slab positive density anomaly. Based on our density anomaly estimations (75 ± 20 kg/m3), a 350 km slab length, dipping at 20° into the asthenosphere, induces a slab pull force of 1.7 × 1012–4.6 × 1012 N m. This force produces a tensional stress of 41–114 MPa, sufficient to balance the compressive thermal stresses at the top of the flat slab.
The linear superposition of the thermally and torque or slab pull induced stresses shows tensile stresses up to 60–180 MPa inside the flat slab core. Also, our results suggest that the majority of the intraslab earthquakes inside the flat slab are situated where the resultant stresses are larger than 40–80 MPa.
This study provides a reasonable explanation for the existence of exclusively normal fault intraslab earthquakes in the flat slab beneath Central Mexico, and also it shows that thermal stresses due to non-uniform reheating of subducting slabs play a considerable role in the total stress field. 相似文献
A variability survey on the shape of the light curve of the classical Cepheid DL Cas has been performed on the basis of Johnson
V photometry data covering about 38 years. The input parameters (mean magnitude, pulsation frequency and period, light curve
amplitude, harmonics amplitudes, Fourier type structural parameters) for our study were determined through the Fourier decomposition
technique applied to each data set. The analysis of the outcoming time series, using different and complementary methods,
seems to indicate the constancy of these parameters within the precision limits of the available data, although the hypothesis
of the presence of a low level variability cannot be excluded. The only exception is the pulsation period, which displays
a possible increasing trend with a rate of 0.109 ± 0.037 s yr−1. This trend may be, at least partly, an effect of the unequal precision of pulsation period estimated values, corresponding
to each considered data set.

We present the regional ground-motion prediction equations for peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV),
pseudo-spectral acceleration (PSA), and seismic intensity (MSK scale) for the Vrancea intermediate depth earthquakes (SE-Carpathians)
and territory of Romania. The prediction equations were constructed using the stochastic technique on the basis of the regional
Fourier amplitude spectrum (FAS) source scaling and attenuation models and the generalised site amplification functions. Values
of considered ground motion parameters are given as the functions of earthquake magnitude, depth and epicentral distance.
The developed ground-motion models were tested and calibrated using the available data from the large Vrancea earthquakes.
We suggest to use the presented equations for the rapid estimation of seismic effect after strong earthquakes (Shakemap generation)
and seismic hazard assessment, both deterministic and probabilistic approaches. 相似文献
The large landslide, Kostanjek, on the southern slopes of the mountain, Zagreba
ka Gora, in the western suburb of Zagreb was activated in 1963 after some 2.1 × 106 m3 of marl for the cement factory, Croatia, was excavated at the foot of the slope. The geological features (sinclinal structure, faults, hydrogeological conditions, extension of the “Tripoli” marl strata) which had an important role in the formation of the slide, as well as the means of marl exploitation by means of mass blasting, are presented in the paper. The Kostanjek slide involves an urbanized area of some 100 ha. It is estimated that a sliding mass of some 32 × 106 m3 is involved, with a maximum depth of 90 m. Sliding occurs in three levels. The displacements of the surface are 3–6 m. The excavation of marl was stopped in 1988, when a total of 5.3 × 106 m3 of material was excavated. Since then the magnitude of surface displacement per year has decreased. The Kostanjek slide is still active. It is estimated that natural stabilization will take a long time, probably decades. Analyses of possible measures for the stabilization of movements suggested that preventive drainage with continuous observation of the slide is most suitable. 相似文献
