Summary Calcite-rich dykes occur in the thrust fold belt near the Bayan Obo rare earth element (REE) deposit. They cut a thrust inlier of granitic migmatite within folded Bayan Obo Group sediments of Proterozoic age. Cathodoluminescence, X-ray fluorescence and microprobe studies show that the rock is a calcite carbonatite with Sr-Mn-bearing calcite, magnesio-riebeckite, apatite, pyrochlore, K-feldspar and biotite. One dyke was chosen for detailed analysis. Its margin is strongly REE-mineralized with much monazite developed adjacent to zoned apatite. Secondary alteration is marked by the introduction of Fe and Mn. The adjacent migmatite is fenitized to a magnesio-riebeckite-albite rock. The sedimentary dolomite of the Bayan Obo Group is composed mainly of Mn-Sr-RE-hearing ferroan dolomite and contains bands of opaque grains, apatite, monazite, fluorite and taeniolite. Many trace element and isotope similarities between the carbonatite dyke and the sedimentary dolomite are revealed, and the evidence supports the possibility that the dolomite is a dolomitized carbonatite tuff. The Bayan Obo REE mineralization also shows geochemical similarities with the mineralization seen in the carbonatites, and a possible genetic connection is presented.

Zusammenfassung Kalzit-reiche Gänge kommen im Faltengürtel in der Nähe der Seltenen-Erd-Lagerstätte Bayan Obo vor. Es handelt sich um hellbräunliche, 1–2 m mächtige Gänge, die migmatitische Orthogneise von granitischer Zusammensetzung innerhalb der gefalteten Sedimente der Bayan Obo Gruppe durchsetzen. Chemische Daten, die auf Kathoden-Lumineszenz, Röntgen-Fluoreszenz und Mikrosondenuntersuchungen beruhen, zeigen, daß es sich hier um einen Kalzit-KazhooudimdSr-Mo-führeodem Kalzit, Magnesio-Riebeckit Apatit, Pyrochlor Alkalifelds und Biotit handelt. Einer dieser Gänge wurde für eine eingehende Untersuchung ausgewählt. Seine randlichen Partien sind stark mit SEE mineralisiert, und viel Monazit kommt in der Nähe von zonar gebautem Apatit vor. Sekundäre Umwandlung wird durch die Zufuhr von Fe und Mn markiert. Der benachbarte Migmatit ist fenitisiert und dadurch in ein Magnesio-Riebeckit-Gestein umgewandelt. Der sedimentäre Dolomit der Bayan-Obo-Gruppe besteht hauptsächlich aus Mn-Sr-SE-führenden eisenhaltigen Dolomit und enthält Lagen von opaken Mineralen, Apatit, Monazit, Fluorit und Taeniolit. Karbonatitgänge und der sedimentäre Dolomit zeigen Ähnlichkeiten, was den Spurenelementgehalt und die isotopische Zusammensetzung betrifft. Diese Daten weisen auf die Möglichkeit hin, daß der Dolomit ein dolomitisiert Karbonatit-Tuff ist. Die SEE-Vererzung von Bayan Obo zeigt auch geochemische Ähnlichkeiten mit der Vererzung der Karbonatite, und ein möglicher genetischer Zusammenhang wird diskutiert.

Estimating Travel Time in Bank Filtration Systems from a Numerical Model Based on DTS Measurements

An approach is presented to determine the seasonal variations in travel time in a bank filtration system using a passive heat tracer test. The temperature in the aquifer varies seasonally because of temperature variations of the infiltrating surface water and at the soil surface. Temperature was measured with distributed temperature sensing along fiber optic cables that were inserted vertically into the aquifer with direct push equipment. The approach was applied to a bank filtration system consisting of a sequence of alternating, elongated recharge basins and rows of recovery wells. A SEAWAT model was developed to simulate coupled flow and heat transport. The model of a two‐dimensional vertical cross section is able to simulate the temperature of the water at the well and the measured vertical temperature profiles reasonably well. MODPATH was used to compute flowpaths and the travel time distribution. At the study site, temporal variation of the pumping discharge was the dominant factor influencing the travel time distribution. For an equivalent system with a constant pumping rate, variations in the travel time distribution are caused by variations in the temperature‐dependent viscosity. As a result, travel times increase in the winter, when a larger fraction of the water travels through the warmer, lower part of the aquifer, and decrease in the summer, when the upper part of the aquifer is warmer. 相似文献

Future climate resources for tourism in Europe based on the daily Tourism Climatic Index 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Climate is an important resource for many types of tourism. One of several metrics for the suitability of climate for sightseeing is Mieczkowski’s “Tourism Climatic Index” (TCI), which summarizes and combines seven climate variables. By means of the TCI, we analyse the present climate resources for tourism in Europe and projected changes under future climate change. We use daily data from five regional climate models and compare the reference period 1961–1990 to the A2 scenario in 2071–2100. A comparison of the TCI based on reanalysis data and model simulations for the reference period shows that current regional climate models capture the important climatic patterns. Currently, climate resources are best in Southern Europe and deteriorate with increasing latitude and altitude. With climate change the latitudinal band of favourable climate is projected to shift northward improving climate resources in Northern and Central Europe in most seasons. Southern Europe’s suitability for sightseeing tourism drops strikingly in the summer holiday months but is partially compensated by considerable improvements between October and April. 相似文献

Limiting climate change to 2 °C with a high probability requires reducing cumulative emissions to about 1600 GtCO2 over the 2000–2100 period. This requires unprecedented rates of decarbonization even in the short-run. The availability of the option of net negative emissions, such as bio-energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) or reforestation/afforestation, allows to delay some of these emission reductions. In the paper, we assess the demand and potential for negative emissions in particular from BECCS. Both stylized calculations and model runs show that without the possibility of negative emissions, pathways meeting the 2 °C target with high probability need almost immediate emission reductions or simply become infeasible. The potential for negative emissions is uncertain. We show that negative emissions from BECCS are probably limited to around 0 to 10 GtCO2/year in 2050 and 0 to 20 GtCO2/year in 2100. Estimates on the potential of afforestation options are in the order of 0–4 GtCO2/year. Given the importance and the uncertainty concerning BECCS, we stress the importance of near-term assessments of its availability as today’s decisions has important consequences for climate change mitigation in the long run. 相似文献

Hydrogen is named as possible energy carrier for future energy systems. However, the impact of large-scale hydrogen use on the atmosphere is uncertain. Application of hydrogen in clean fuel cells reduces emissions of air pollutants, but emissions from hydrogen production and leakages of molecular hydrogen could influence atmospheric chemistry. This paper combines a global energy system model and a global atmospheric model to explore the range of impacts of hydrogen on atmospheric chemistry. We found that emissions of molecular hydrogen may range from 0.2 up to 10% (or 25-167 Tg hydrogen/yr) for a global hydrogen energy system. The lower end of this range would in fact be equal to current emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Hydrogen energy use leads to a clear decrease in emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide, but large-scale hydrogen production from coal may lead to net increase in emissions of nitrous oxide and volatile organic compound. Compared to a reference scenario, this would lead to positive impacts on surface concentrations of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and ozone. However, if hydrogen leakage would not be minimised it leads to an increase in methane lifetimes and a decrease in stratospheric ozone concentrations. 相似文献

We present a proof-of-concept for the adaptive mesh refinement method applied to atmospheric boundary-layer simulations. Such a method may form an attractive alternative to static grids for studies on atmospheric flows that have a high degree of scale separation in space and/or time. Examples include the diurnal cycle and a convective boundary layer capped by a strong inversion. For such cases, large-eddy simulations using regular grids often have to rely on a subgrid-scale closure for the most challenging regions in the spatial and/or temporal domain. Here we analyze a flow configuration that describes the growth and subsequent decay of a convective boundary layer using direct numerical simulation (DNS). We validate the obtained results and benchmark the performance of the adaptive solver against two runs using fixed regular grids. It appears that the adaptive-mesh algorithm is able to coarsen and refine the grid dynamically whilst maintaining an accurate solution. In particular, during the initial growth of the convective boundary layer a high resolution is required compared to the subsequent stage of decaying turbulence. More specifically, the number of grid cells varies by two orders of magnitude over the course of the simulation. For this specific DNS case, the adaptive solver was not yet more efficient than the more traditional solver that is dedicated to these types of flows. However, the overall analysis shows that the method has a clear potential for numerical investigations of the most challenging atmospheric cases. 相似文献

Discrete reddish-brown, predominantly minerogenic detrital layers along the Holocene, annually laminated sediment sequence of Lake Meerfelder Maar represent extreme runoff events. We conducted detailed microfacies analyses and a high-resolution palynological investigation, focusing on ten detrital layers throughout the Holocene. We studied triad samples taken directly under, in and above the detrital layer. Fagus sylvatica (beech) was a dominant species in the regional forest around Lake Meerfelder Maar after ca. 3,800 years ago. Three detrital layers occurring during the Fagus phase exhibit short-term maxima of ascospores of the parasitic fungus Kretzschmaria deusta. In contrast, the ascospore contents are low in the event layers deposited during the early and middle Holocene. Fagus is a vulnerable host species for Kretzschmaria deusta and the fungus is common on Fagus. Ascospores are formed on the trunk base, and under normal weather conditions, few spores appear outside the forest. We interpret the short peaks in abundance of K. deusta in the event layers as indicators for rainstorms during which material was transported from the forest floor into the lake by strong winds and stormwater runoff. The open beech forest facilitated wind transport of the ascospores. We recommend analysis of fungal spores in lake sediments because fungal records may help to identify extreme weather events, even when such events are not macroscopically visible in the sediment sequence. 相似文献

Isotope signatures in precipitation from the Global Network for Isotopes in Precipitation around the Mediterranean basin and literature data are compared with isotopic data from a large karstic aquifer in southeast Spain to explain the origin and type of the precipitation events dominating recharge. Analysis of the deuterium excess d at the scale of the Mediterranean basin and at the regional scale allows us to understand the isotopic context of the study area: Campo de Dalias and the Sierra de Gador (Almería province). The origin of precipitation can be determined from its d value. The d value changes as a function of the initial evaporation condition. It depends on the relative humidity and temperature during the evaporation producing the water vapour of the clouds. The water vapour, which dominates the study area, is generated in two areas: the Atlantic Ocean (d = 10‰) and the western Mediterranean basin (d = 15‰). With increasing precipitation volume, the western Mediterranean character dominates. These heavier storms contribute mainly to recharge, as illustrated by the d value of 13·6‰ in deep groundwater of the Campo de Dalias. Weighted d values increase with the volume of precipitation, giving a significant relationship for the southern and eastern coasts of the Iberian Peninsula. This selectivity of d to monthly precipitation was used to estimate the return period of precipitation leading to aquifer recharge at 0·9–4·9 years. Moderate rainfall, which occurs more frequently, still represents ~60–90% of the total precipitation. One of the challenges to meet ever‐growing water demands is to increase recharge from moderate events yielding intermediate quantities per event, but forming the bulk of the annual precipitation.
