The paper presents a detailed analysis of 1st April 2015 earthquake, whose epicenter (30.16° N, 79.28° E) was located near Simtoli village of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. The focal depth is refined to 7 km by the grid search technique using moment tensor inversion. The source parameters of the earthquake as estimated by spectral analysis method suggested the source radius of ~1.0 km, seismic moment as 1.99E+23 dyne-cm with moment magnitude (Mw) of 4.8 and stress drop of 69 bar. The fault plane solution inferred using full waveform inversion indicated two nodal planes, the northeast dipping plane having strike 334° and dip 5° and the southwest dipping plane with dip 86° and strike 118°. The parallelism of the nodal plane striking 334° with dip 5° as indicated in depth cross sections of the tectonic elements suggested the north dipping Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) to be the causative fault for this earthquake. Spatio-temporal distribution of earthquakes during the period 1960-2015 showed seismic quiescence during 2006-2010 and migration of seismicity towards south. 相似文献

Evaluation of metal contamination in coastal sediments of the Bay of Bengal, India: geochemical and statistical approaches 总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
Surface sediment samples collected from the inner shelf region of the Bay of Bengal, were analysed for the major elements and total and acetic acid available trace elements (Al, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Si, Zn) to evaluate geochemical processes influencing their distribution. Major elemental analysis showed that the sediments had high concentrations of Si and relatively low concentrations of Al and Fe. Both major elemental and trace metal concentrations indicated that the sediments represent weathered products of granite and charnockite. Normalization of metals to Al indicated relatively high enrichment factors for Pb, Cd, Zn and Cr. The higher proportions of nondetrital Pb (66%), Cd (41%) and Co (28%) reveal metal contamination due to anthropogenic inputs. Factor analysis (FA) identified six possible types of sedimentological and geochemical associations. The dominant factor accounting for 26.9% of the total variance identifies an anthropogenic input and accumulation of nondetrital Cd, Co, Cr, Ni and Pb. Association of these metals with CaCO3 reveals that shell fragments in the surface sediments are likely act as a carrier phase for nondetrital metals. The results are discussed in the context of the sources and pathways of elements in the Bay of Bengal. 相似文献

Summary. Over 80 earthquakes, exclusively from the Hindukush focal region, which were recorded at the Gauribidanur seismic array (GBA) have been used in this study. These events have similar epicentral distances and a narrow azimuthal range from GBA but varying focal depths from 10 to 240 km. A fault plane dipping steeply (75°) in the north-west direction and striking N 66° E has been investigated on the basis of the spatial distribution of earthquakes in two vertical planes through 68° E and 32° N. Short period P -wave recordings up to 30 s were processed using the adaptive cross-correlation filtering technique. Slowness and azimuthal anomalies were obtained for first arrivals. These anomalies show positive as well as negative bias and are attributed to a steep velocity gradient in the upper mantle between the 400–700 km depth range where the seismic rays have their maximum penetration. Relative time residuals between the stations of GBA owe their origin very near to the surface beneath the array. A search of the signals across the array revealed that most of the events occurring at shallower depths had complex signatures as compared to the deeper events. The structure near the source region, complicated source functions and the scattering confined to the crust—upper mantle near source are mainly responsible for the complexity of the Hindukush earthquakes as the transmission zone of the ray tubes from turning point to the recording station is practically the same. 相似文献
