Stars observed by the astrometry satellite Hipparcos may be unknown double stars. A subsample of those are dangerous for the extragalactic link of Hipparcos proper motions by long-term photographic proper motions, if the time base of Hipparcos is too short to detect the orbital motion. The probability of these cases and the typical size of the photocentric orbital motion are estimated by Monte Carlo simulations for the sample of 33 stars used in the Bonn extragalactic link. Both are found to be considerable: about 16% and 9 mas/yr respectively.  相似文献

Understanding what drives farmers’ voluntary adoption of nutrient and soil best management practices has important consequences for many environmental outcomes including water quality. We build on research revealing the need for simultaneous use of multiple nitrogen best management practices to achieve water quality improvement goals. Using social, economic and attitudinal variables we predict the use of multiple nitrogen best management practices at three time points: current use (2013), past use (before 2013), and likelihood of use on their largest field in the next three years. Our empirical analysis uses structural equation modeling with latent variables and 2014 farmer survey data from three Midwestern US states. Most farmers in our sample used at least one of the six best management practices. Our results reveal that farmers’ attitudes, use of information sources, and conservation program participation affect the number of nitrogen best management practices concurrently in use at multiple time points.  相似文献

Published low-resolution measurements of colour and polarisation over the face of M82 are discussed to separate the contribution of starlight and scattered light. We show that in all places of the middle and outer halo the scattered light comes predominantly from a central source of very high ultraviolett excess, the contribution of the disc is negligble there. The projected distributions of Hα-light and scattered continuum are of considerable similarity. Major extinction occurs in the southern half of the main body and of the inner halo; the northern half of the bright body, and the northern halo, are free of extinction, excluding some regions near the minor axis. The light of the central source is reddened only before it is scattered in the halo. The variation of the true degree of polarisation (after correction for starlight) is interpreted in terms of the variation of the mean scattering angle. From this, conclusions can be drawn concerning the location of the dust and the geometry of the illumination. The high brightness of the scattered light near the minor axis is caused axis is caused by a bright illuminating beam there, strengthened in some places by comparatively low scattering angles (45°) and a higher (projected) density of the scattering material. The stellar populations seen in M82 are different in the northern and in the southern halfs of the galaxy. The main body and the region of the northern “halo” consist of an old population of normal metal content (pop. I); the colours of the southern parts – which are partly considerably influenced by extinction – can be due to either metal poor F-stars (pop. II) or to young B-stars. To solve the latter ambiguity and at the same time the question in what direction the plane of the galaxy is tilted, good spectra of the faint southern parts of M82 outside the minor axis are needed.  相似文献

The open cluster An King 13 (α(1950) = 00h07m5 δ (1950) = +60°56') was measured in the UBV-system. An King 13 contained 80 stars up to the apparent magnitude mv = 16.4 mag. The distance of the cluster is 1730 pc. The diameter of An King 13 is 7 pc. The luminocity function was determinated.  相似文献

Mapping marine biocenoses is an efficient method for providing useful data for the management and conservation of Mediterranean lagoons. Fused images from two satellites, SPOT 5 and IKONOS, were tested as management tools for identifying specific ecosystems in the El Bibane lagoon, situated in southern Tunisia near the Libyan border. The objectives of this study were to provide a precise map of the entire El Bibane lagoon using fused images from SPOT 5 and to compare fused images from SPOT 5 and IKONOS over a test-area. After applying a supervised classification, pixels are automatically classified in four classes: low seagrass cover, high seagrass cover, superficial mobile sediments and deep mobile sediments. The maps of the lagoon revealed and confirmed an extremely wide distribution of seagrass meadows within the lagoon (essentially Cymodocea nodosa; 19 546 ha) and a large area of mobile sediments more or less parallel to the shore (3 697 ha). A direct comparison of overall accuracy between SPOT 5 over the entire area, SPOT 5 over the test-area and IKONOS over the test-area revealed that these tools provided accurate mapping of the lagoon environment (83.25%, 85.91% and 73.41% accuracy, respectively). The SPOT 5 images provided greater overall accuracy than the IKONOS image, but did not take into account the heterogeneous spatial structure of the seagrasses and sediments present in the lagoon environment. Although IKONOS imagery provided lower overall accuracy than SPOT 5, it proved a very useful tool for the mapping of heterogeneous structures as it enabled the patchiness of formations to be better taken into account. The use of SPOT 5 and IKONOS fused images appears to be very promising for completing the mapping of lagoons in other regions and countries of the Mediterranean Sea.  相似文献
