Spectrophotometry from 5-10 micrometers (delta lambda/lambda approximately 0.02) of comet Halley was obtained from the Kuiper Airborne Observatory on 1985 December 12.1 and 1986 April 8.6 and 10.5, UT. 8-13 micrometers data were obtained on 17.2 December 1985 from the Nickel Telescope at Lick Observatory. The spectra show a strong broad emission band at 10 micrometers and a weak feature at 6.8 micrometers. We do not confirm the strong 7.5 micrometers emission feature observed by the Vega 1 spacecraft. The 10 micrometers band, identified with silicate materials, has substructure indicative of crystalline material. The band can be fitted by combining spectra data from a sample of interplanetary dust particles. The primary component of the silicate emission is due to olivine. The 6.8 micrometers emission feature can be due either to carbonates or the C-H deformation mode in organic molecules. The lack of other emission bands is used to place limits on the types of organic molecules responsible for the emission observed by others at 3.4 micrometers. Color temperatures significantly higher than the equilibrium blackbody temperature indicate that small particles are abundant in the coma. Significant spatial and temporal variations in the spectrum have been observed and show trends similar to those observed by the spacecraft and from the ground. Temporal variability of the silicate emission relative to the 5-8 micrometers continuum suggests that there are at least two physically separated components of the dust. 相似文献

Introducing invasive species in new environments through ballast water is a specific problem of contamination and has recently become one of the main concerns of Maritime Organizations. Ultraviolet-C radiation (UV-C) is a technological alternative to prevent this maritime pollution. This study addresses the effect of UV-C on different phytoplankton cultures and also the ability to recover following exposure to damage. A UV-C low-pressure lamp irradiates the cultures. The distance from the source and the thickness of the layer prevent part of the energy from reaching the culture and the disinfective process is diminished. Some cultures such as Chlorella autotrophica and Chaetoceros calcitrans can easily recover from UV-C damage. However, Phaeocystis globosa does not have this ability. C. calcitrans forms cysts and exhibits two different behaviours depending on the dose applied. 相似文献

We present the results of Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) observations of the Be star X-ray binary system RX J0812.4-3114. A light curve obtained with the RXTE All-Sky Monitor (ASM) shows that the source is currently in an active state with outbursts occurring at approximately 80 day intervals. The source underwent a transition from an inactive state to this regular outburst state early in 1998. An observation of RX J0812.4-3114 was obtained with the RXTE Proportional Counter Array (PCA) close to the time of a predicted maximum in 1999 March, and strong pulsations were detected at a period of 31.88 s. This confirms the result of an earlier PCA observation by Reig & Roche that was also obtained serendipitously near the predicted maximum flux of the 80 day period and also near the start of the current active state. We interpret the periodicity in the ASM light curve as indicating the orbital period of RX J0812.4-3114 with outbursts occurring around periastron passage. 相似文献
