Particulate matter from the atmosphere over the Atlantic Ocean along the South American and African Continents has been analyzed for organic tracers from natural and biomass burning emissions. The major biomarker compounds characterized are natural products from continental vegetation consisting primarily of epicuticular wax components. For example, n-alkanes ranged from C25 to C35, with an odd carbon number predominance and carbon maxima (Cmax) at 29 or 31. Concentrations of n-alkanes varied from 0.3 to 680 ng/m3. Nevertheless, n-alkanols are the dominant terrestrial tracers in almost all samples (concentrations from 0.1 to 780 ng/m3) and ranged from C22 to C34 with an even carbon number predominance. Despite the major presence of the natural tracers, organic components from biomass burning emissions are also present in the particulate matter. The major tracers from this source are thermal degradation products from the biopolymer cellulose, namely the dianhydromonosaccharide derivatives levoglucosan, galactosan, and mannosan. In general, the concentrations of levoglucosan, the major derivative from this source in all samples, varied from 0.0008 to 0.15 ng/m3 in atmospheric samples collected over the ocean and from 0.04 to 4860 ng/m3 in terrestrial particulate matter, used as reference in this study. Dehydroabietic acid, another marker compound emitted from burning of Gymnosperm fuel, is also detectable in most oceanic samples at concentrations ranging from 0.0001 to 0.4 ng/m3, whereas in terrestrial aerosol particulate matter, this component is present at much higher concentrations (0.23–440 ng/m3). The presence of these tracers in atmospheric particulate matter over the ocean confirms the long-range transport of smoke from biomass burning off the continents. 相似文献

The Os‐isotope compositions of sulphides in mantle xenoliths hosted by Late Miocene alkali basalts from the Sviyaginsky volcano, Russian Far East, reveal the presence of Archaean–Proterozoic subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath the Khanka massif. Their TMA and TRD model ages reveal similar peaks at 1.1 and 0.8 Ga suggesting later thermotectonic events in the subcontinental lithospheric mantle, whereas TRD model ages range back to 2.8 ± 0.5 (2σ) Ga. The events recognized in the subcontinental lithospheric mantle are consistent with those recorded in the crust of the Khanka massif. The sulphide Os‐isotope data show that the subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath the Khanka massif had formed at least by the Mesoproterozoic, and was subsequently metasomatized by juvenile crustal‐growth events related to the evolution of the Altaids. The Khanka massif is further proposed to have tectonic affinity to the Siberia Craton and should originate from it accordingly. 相似文献

Tree-ring oxygen stable isotope data series from conifers growing on the Dachstein Plateau (Austrian Alps) were selected to demonstrate the applicability of the serial pooling method using shifted 5-year tree-ring blocks for summer temperature reconstruction. The addressed method allows the construction of long isotope chronologies with significant climate correlation and well preserved climate sensitivity applying the irreducible sample replication of five trees. The linear regression model for temperature reconstruction is verifiable and the predicted data are well correlated with instrumental data, especially reproducing the long-term temperature trend. However, the reduced mean variance leads to loss of extreme years, which can be regulated by the combination of one data series in annual resolution with five shifted 5-year block data series. This significantly improves the variance of the mean chronology, sufficiently to identify extremes. Therefore, we recommend the use of mixed data sets as a compromise between essential sample replication and economic considerations. 相似文献

The upper ionosphere electron density characterized by the critical frequency foF2 is correlated with solar activity when using monthly medians or averages from longer intervals. When shorter intervals are studied, time delays of different lengths in solar activity effects in the ionosphere are observed. The correlation between the foF2 values and the solar radiation intensity, given by the F10.7 index, is studied using the 1967–2003 data of mid-latitude ionosonde stations spaced at distances greater than 100° in geographical longitude. At which longitude the reaction of foF2 to the changes in solar activity appears sooner depends on the position of the interval studied in the 22-year solar cycle. 相似文献

Recent studies have shown that the proper treatment of ground-motion variability and, particularly, the correlation of ground
motion are essential for the estimation of the seismic hazard, damage and loss for distributed portfolios. In this work we
compared the effects of variations in the between-earthquake correlation and in the site-to-site correlation on probabilistic
estimations of seismic damage and loss for the extended objects (hypothetical portfolio) and critical elements (e.g. bridges)
of a network. Taiwan Island has been chosen as a test case for this study because of relatively high seismicity and previous
experience in earthquake hazard modelling. The hazard and loss estimations were performed using Monte Carlo approach on the
basis of stochastic catalogues and random ground-motion fields. We showed that the influence of correlation on parameters
of seismic hazard, characteristics of loss distribution and the probability of damage depend, on one hand, on level of hazard
and probability level of interest (return period) and, on the other hand, the relative influence of each type of correlation

The high-pressure structural evolution of hemimorphite, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O, a = 8.3881(13), b = 10.7179(11), c = 5.1311(9) Å, V = 461.30(12) Å3, space group Imm2, Z = 2, was studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction with a diamond anvil cell under hydrostatic conditions up to 4.2 GPa. In the pressure range of 0.0001–2.44 GPa, the unit-cell parameters change almost linearly. The phase transition (probably of the second order) with symmetry reduction from Imm2 (hemimorphite-I) to Pnn2 (hemimorphite-II) was found near 2.5 GPa. The structure compressibility increases somewhat above the phase transition. Namely, the initial unit-cell volume decreases by 3.6% at 2.44 GPa and by 7.2% at 4.20 GPa. The hemimorphite framework can be described as built up of secondary building units (SBU) Zn4Si2O7(OH)2. These blocks are combined to form the rods arranged along the c-axis; these rods are multiplied by basic and I-translations of orthorhombic unit cell. The symmetry reduction is caused by the rotation of the rods along their axis. In hemimorphite-I, the compression affects mainly the SBU dimensions, whereas a rectangular section of the channels having mm2 symmetry remains practically unchanged. An appreciable decrease in this section in hemimorphite-II is determined by its oblique distortion with the loss of m planes. It results from opposite rotation of adjacent SBU, which also leads into the loss of I-translation. In hemimorphite-I, the coordination of H2O molecules is fourfold planar; the hydrogen-bonded hydroxyls and H2O molecules form infinite ribbons along the c-axis. In hemimorphite-II, an additional short H2O–O contact appears as a result of asymmetric deformation of the channels. The appearance of this new contact provides the possibility for re-orientation of hydrogen bonds. The planar coordination of H2O molecules changes to tetrahedral and the ribbons are transformed to islands (OH)2–H2O. 相似文献

The reason some VMS deposits contain more gold or other metals than others might be due to the influence of intrusions. A new approach examining this possibility is based on examining the information about many VMS deposits to test statistically if those with associated intrusions have significantly different grades or amounts of metals. A set of 632 VMS deposits with reported grades, tonnages, and information about the observed presence or absence of subvolcanic or plutonic intrusive bodies emplaced at or after VMS mineralization is statistically analyzed.Deposits with syn-mineralization or post-mineralization intrusions nearby have higher tonnages than deposits without reported intrusions, but the differences are not statistically significant. When both kinds of intrusions are reported, VMS deposit sizes are significantly higher than in the deposits without any intrusions. Gold, silver, zinc, lead, and copper average grades are not significantly different in the VMS deposits with nearby intrusions compared to deposits without regardless of relative age of intrusive. Only zinc and copper contents are significantly higher in VMS deposits with both kinds of intrusive reported. These differences in overall metal content are due to significantly larger deposit sizes of VMS deposits where both intrusive kinds are observed and reported, rather than any difference in metal grades. 相似文献

Population biology of the amphipod Ischyrocerus commensalis Chevreux, 1900, a facultative commensal of the red king crab Paralithodes camtschaticus (Tilesius, 1815), is here described on samples collected during summers 2005–2009 in Dalnezelenetskaya Bay (Southern Barents Sea, Russia). The studied features included infestation indices, size composition, morphometric, and reproductive parameters of the summer generation. During the studied period, prevalence and mean number of I. commensalis per host were 34.4% and 54.4 ± 3.3 individuals, respectively. The majority of amphipods were found on the host mouth parts, limbs, and gills. The amphipod sex‐ratio was significantly biased towards females (F:M = 1.36:1). The size frequency distributions observed in July and August were similar but in July the proportion of the smallest amphipods (<2.1 mm body length) was two times higher than that in August. All the amphipods with body length >5.1 mm were males or females. Length–weight relationships in female and male amphipods differed significantly, suggesting that females were heavier than the same‐sized males. The females carrying eggs in their brood pouches were the most abundant groups (54.8% in July 2009 and 51.6% in August 2005–2008). The minimal body length of a female which had released juveniles was 7.0 mm in July and 6.2 mm in August. The size at 50% maturity of I. commensalis females was estimated to be 6.58 mm. The number of eggs laid is positively linearly correlated with the size of a female. The proportion of the females with eggs in the latest developmental stage in July was 10 times higher than in August. The differences of biological features in symbiotic amphipods between the July and August may be explained by more intensive reproduction effort in the earlier month. 相似文献
