Lacustrine laminated sediments (laminites) present in Late Miocene formations of the Híjar Basin, SE Spain, display well developed loop bedding, a structure consisting of bundles of laminae that are sharply constricted at intervals, giving a morphology of loops or links of a chain. The laminite sequences, which are interbedded with turbidite marlstones, were accumulated on the bottom of a permanently stratified lake developed in a rapidly subsiding basin limited by 010° and 105° normal faults. As deduced from both macro- and microdeformational analyses, the basin evolved under an extensional stress field throughout the Late Miocene. Four main types of loops, simple and complex loops with subcategories, have been recognized within the laminite sequence. Simple loops of type 1 show the best definite pattern, quite similar to ' pinch and swell structures ', a type of boudinage typical of stretching of alternating beds where the competence contrast is not strongly marked. The remaining loop types display contortion and occasional breakage of laminae (microfaulted edges) indicative of microdeformation near the boundary between the ductile-brittle deformational fields. The distribution of the various loop types across the laminite sequence reflects an interplay between progressive lithification of the laminites as sedimentation progressed and tectonic stresses which affected the sediment sequence. Accordingly, a mechanism of deformation under an extensional stress field, ultimately related to the creep movement of the main basin faults which resulted in successive seismic shocks of low magnitude, is proposed to explain the formation of loop bedding in the laminites.  相似文献

The Bologna meteorological record is one of the oldest and most complete among the series already collected for Europe. Data from the regions south of the Alps being extremely sparse, this station is of great importance for all climatic reconstructions dating as far back as the beginning of the 18th century. The focus here is on the temperature series, because it presents some a priori problems with respect to the series analysis itself. These problems relate to the homogeneity of the temperature record, which is affected by the use of different thermometers within the record, the statistical reconstruction of the thermometric scales, and the drift in calibration of one of these instruments. After correcting for these heterogeneities, the temperature series indicate a thermal behaviour in agreement with other historical European sources. The Bologna series is characterised by a warm period during the first decades of the 18th century, with large decreases in temperature in 1740 and 1742, and a positive trend from 1742 to the end of the record. The behaviour of the Bologna temperature series is in good agreement with the series for Central England, De Bilt (Netherlands) and Padua (Italy).  相似文献

Simultaneous measurements of the night airglow OI 5577 Å and OH (8,3) band have been carried out at Cachoeira Paulista (23°S, 45°W), Brazil since 1976. Cross correlation analyses between the nocturnal variations of these emissions and also with the OH rotational temperature (ROT) for various time shifts are presented. It is found that OH (8,3) is well correlated with ROT but with a time lag of about 1 h. The variations of OI 5577 Å lead OH (8,3) by about 2–3 h and ROT covaries with 5577 Å with a time lag less than 1 h. For the sake of comparison, OI 5577 Å, OH and NaD data from a number of IQSY stations have been analysed. It is noted that (1) OI 5577 Å leads OH by about 2 h at mid-latitude stations and (2) OH is well correlated with Na 5893 Å with a time lag of less than 1 h. The presence of the phase lagged correlation patterns between OH/5577 Å, OH/ROT and OH/NaD indicates vertical propagation of a wavelike perturbation of the upper atmosphere.  相似文献

Seismic Design of Symmetric Structures for Accidental Torsion   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
The paper presents an analytical estimation of the dynamic effects, caused by the shifting of the centre of mass with accidental eccentricity in symmetric structures. The approximate analytical solution proves, that even under small accidental eccentricities the symmetric structures exhibit “irregular behaviour” and the accidental torsional effects cannot be described properly by static application of torsional moments. The prescribed application rule by Eurocode 8 for multimodal analysis underestimates the accidental torsional effects up to 21% for 5% eccentricity for the structures considered in the paper. An expression for the correction of member responses is derived. It is proved by numerical simulations of the dynamic response of three-dimensional models of symmetric structures, that the proposed correction coefficient gives accurate results in cases of single-storey and multi-storey structures. It gives a convenient way for the design practice to estimate accurately the accidental torsional effects on planar and 3-D models of symmetric structures. For the testing of the effect on the tsunami prevention facilities, a simplified methodfor tsunami risk assessment was suggested without wave run-up analysis. This methodis proposed using calculated offshore tsunami waveform and field reconnaissance suchas the seawall height, time necessary for residents' evacuation and tsunami warninginsurance. Then, two normalized values are evaluated; one is the ratio of calculatedmaximum tsunami height to seawall height, the other is the ratio of time betweentsunami over-topping and evacuation completion to total time required for evacuation.These two values are used to qualitatively estimate the safety of residents and the effectof tsunami prevention facilities, eliminating the necessity to compute complicatedtsunami run-up onshore.  相似文献

Integrated studies and revisions of sedimentary basins and associated magmatism in Peru and Bolivia (8–22°S) show that this part of western Gondwana underwent rifting during the Late Permian–Middle Jurassic interval. Rifting started in central Peru in the Late Permian and propagated southwards into Bolivia until the Liassic/Dogger, along an axis that coincides with the present Eastern Cordillera. Southwest of this region, lithospheric thinning developed in the Early Jurassic and culminated in the Middle Jurassic, producing considerable subsidence in the Arequipa basin of southern Peru. This 110-Ma-long interval of lithospheric thinning ended 160 Ma with the onset of Malm–earliest Cretaceous partial rift inversion in the Eastern Cordillera area.The lithospheric heterogeneities inherited from these processes are likely to have largely influenced the distribution and features of younger compressional and/or transpressional deformations. In particular, the Altiplano plateau corresponds to a paleotectonic domain of “normal” lithospheric thickness that was bounded by two elongated areas underlain by thinned lithosphere. The high Eastern Cordillera of Peru and Bolivia results from Late Oligocene–Neogene intense inversion of the easternmost thinned area.  相似文献

Diverse technologies have been developed and tested for their efficacy in remediating perchlorate-contaminated surface water, groundwater, and soil. Biological reduction, particularly when coupled with electron donor augmentation, has been shown to be one of the most cost-effective alternatives. Numerous electron donors have been evaluated in the literature, but few studies have compared standard vs. slow-release electron donors for sequential nitrate and perchlorate reduction. This study evaluated the efficacy and kinetics of biological reduction in soil microcosms augmented with emulsified oil (EO), glycerol, and mulch extract. Results indicated that EO and glycerol spiked at approximately 100 times stoichiometric excess (i.e., 100x) achieved similar overall reductions and degradation rates for nitrate and perchlorate, although nitrate appeared to exhibit zero order kinetics while perchlorate exhibited first order kinetics. The zero order rate constants for nitrate reduction were 3.32 mg/L d and 2.57 mg/L d for EO and glycerol, respectively. The first order rate constant for perchlorate reduction was 0.36 day−1 for both EO and glycerol. Stable chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations also highlighted the slow-release properties of EO, which would reduce electron donor consumption in comparison to soluble substrates in soil remediation applications. The microcosms augmented with mulch extract failed to demonstrate any nitrate or perchlorate reduction due to the extract's lower COD concentration. Augmentation with compost or additional processing (i.e., concentration) would be necessary to make the extract a viable alternative.  相似文献

Algae(and their extracts) are increasingly important for pharmaceutical applications due to the diversity of useful compounds they contain. The genus Fucus contains one of the most studied species,Fucus vesiculosus. The species F. ceranoides differs from the others of the genus by presenting longitudinal air-vesicles and a capacity to survive at low salinities. It is an alga that inhabits the Mondego River estuary(Portugal), at the southern limit of its distribution, and can serve as a role model to understand the effect of a salt gradient on the production of bioactive compounds. We assessed the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of different F. ceranoides extracts(e.g. methanolic, aqueous and polysaccharide) prepared from samples harvested from two different zones to evaluate if the adaptation of F. ceranoides to different salinity levels influenced its chemical composition. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using 1,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) and 2.2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS)radicals. These assays demonstrated that the methanolic extract of lyophilized F. ceranoides that grew at low salinities was the most bioactive, i.e. DPPH(IC_(50)=50.39 μg/mL) and ABTS(TEAC=2.42). The total phenolic content(Folin-Ciocalteu method) and the methanolic extract of the lyophilized F. ceranoides collected from a low salinity habitat exhibited the highest phenolic content(PGE=49.48 μg/mg of lyophilized extract)amongst those sampled. Thin layer chromatography(TLC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) were used for the identification of compounds in the extracts. This characterization allowed confirmation that the various extracts contained almost the same compounds but with notable quantitative differences. Based on these results, we conclude that there were differences in the quantity of the compounds due to the effect of salinity. The drying methods used were also found to have influenced the quality of the extracted compounds.  相似文献
