The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is constructing a small autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with an onboard mission control computer. The mission controller software for this vehicle is a knowledge-based artificial intelligence (AI) system requiring thorough analysis and testing before the AUV is operational. The manner in which rapid prototyping of this software has been demonstrated by developing a controller code on a LISP machine and using an Ethernet link with a graphics workstation to simulate the controller's environment is discussed. The development of a testing simulator using a knowledge engineering environment (KEE) expert system shell that examines AUV controller subsystems and vehicle models before integrating them with the full AUV for its test environment missions is discussed. In the first part of the paper, we obtained the refined estimates for the periods and Q-factors of the fundamental modes and overtones of spherical and toroidal oscillations with periods longer than 3 min from the data on the free oscillations of the Earth, which were excited by the earthquakes with magnitude 9 that occurred in Sumatra, Japan, and the Sea of Okhotsk. In (Molodenskii et al., 2013), we analyzed the limits of the admissible density distributions in the mantle and liquid core of the Earth, using the data on the amplitudes and phases of the forced nutations, as well as the periods and attenuation factors of the fundamental modes of the free spheroidal and toroidal oscillations of the Earth. These studies were conducted with the fixed values of the total mass and total moment of inertia of the Earth and the fixed distributions of the body seismic waves in the mantle and in the core. The solution was obtained by orthogonalizing the kernels of the integral equations that link the residuals of the observed frequencies and attenuation factors of the free oscillations, as well as the amplitudes and phases of the forced nutations, with the sought densities and Q-factors of the mantle and liquid core. Below, we present the solution of the same problem with allowance for the results obtained in the first part of this paper, namely, the new data on the periods and attenuation factors of the fundamental modes of free oscillations of the Earth and on the periods of the first four overtones of the free spheroidal and toroidal oscillations. Despite the involvement of the new data on the overtones, which have not been considered in our calculations, the weighted root mean square deviations of the theoretical predictions from the observed periods and attenuation factors of the free oscillations, as well as the amplitudes and phases of the forced nutations, have significantly decreased. This is due to (1) the noticeable reduction of the real errors in estimating the parameters of the free oscillations described in the first part of the paper and (2) the inclusion of the quantities determining the depth- and frequency dependences of the Q-factor in the mantle in the set of the independently varied parameters. 相似文献

A retrospective analysis has been done for the hydrophysical fields of the Black Sea for 1993–2012 with the assimilation of undisturbed monthly average profiles of temperature and salinity that were obtained by using an original procedure of joint processing of satellite altimetry and rare hydrological observations. The accuracy of the reconstructed fields of temperature and salinity of the Black Sea is evaluated by comparison with the data of sounding from the hydrological stations and the Argo floats. A comparative analysis is performed for the integral characteristics of the fields of temperature, salinity, and kinetic energy with the same characteristics of the reanalysis for 1992–2012 that assimilated the average annual profiles of temperature and salinity, surface temperature and altimetry level of the sea after being adjusted with respect to climate seasonal variability. The proposed procedure of the reanalysis execution allows a more precise reconstruction of the interannual variability of temperature and salinity stratification in the main pycnocline. The correlation between the annual and seasonal variability of the eddy of the wind friction tangential stress and the average kinetic energy at the levels is revealed. 相似文献

This paper reviews the socio-economic and ecological context of Fijian reef fisheries. This review is deemed necessary because improved understanding of the state and trends of Fiji's coral reef fisheries on a national level is required for designing an effective management plan for Fiji's inshore reef fisheries. The most important point that emerges from our review is that despite numerous studies of Fiji's reef fisheries, the current status of reef-associated fisheries at the national level is still uncertain due, mainly, to the lack of dependable data on the subsistence fisheries. This in turn leads to uncertainty about how the continuation of fishing, in particular, fishing focused on target species for the coral reef resources trade, will affect fishing communities and the ecosystem. 相似文献

Spatial and temporal distribution of chlorophyll a (chl a) and Total Suspended Matter (TSM) and inter comparison of Ocean Color Monitor-2 (OCM-2) and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer (MODIS-Aqua) derived chlorophyll a and TSM was made along the southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB). The in-situ chl a and TSM concentration measured during different seasons were ranged from 0.09 to 10.63 μgl?1 and 11.04–43.75 mgl?1 respectively. OCM-2 and MODIS derived chl a showed the maximum (6–8 μgl?1) at nearshore waters and the minimum (0–1 μgl?1) along the offshore waters. OCM-2 derived TSM imageries showed the maximum (50–60 mgl?1) along the nearshore waters of Palk Strait and the moderate concentration (2–5 mgl?1) was observed in the offshore waters. MODIS derived minimum TSM concentration (13.244 mgl?1) was recorded along the offshore waters, while the maximum concentration of 15.78 mgl?1 was found along the Kodiakarai region. The inter-comparison of OCM-2 and MODIS chl a data (R 2 ?=?0.549, n?=?49, p?<?0.001, SEE?=?±0.117) indicate that MODIS data overestimates chl a concentration in the nearshore waters of the southern BoB compared to the OCM-2. The correlation between OCM-2 and MODIS-Aqua TSM data (R 2 ?=?0.508, N?=?53, P?<?0.001 and SEE?=?±0.024) confirms that variation in the range of values measured by OCM-2 (2–60 mgl?1) and the MODIS (13–16 mgl?1) derived TSM values. Despite problems in range of measurements, persistent cloud cover etc., the launch of satellites like OCM-2 with relatively high spatial resolutions makes job easier and possible to monitor chl a distribution and sediment discharges on day to day basis in the southwest BoB. 相似文献

Four groups of thermal springs with temperatures from 50 to 80 °C are located on the S–SW–W slopes of El Chichón volcano, a composite dome-tephra edifice, which exploded in 1982 with a 1 km wide, 160 m deep crater left. Very dynamic thermal activity inside the crater (variations in chemistry and migration of pools and fumaroles, drastic changes in the crater lake volume and chemistry) contrasts with the stable behavior of the flank hot springs during the time of observations (1974–2005). All known groups of hot springs are located on the contact of the basement and volcanic edifice, and only on the W–SW–S slopes of the volcano at almost same elevations 600–650 m asl and less than 3 km of direct distance from the crater. Three groups of near-neutral (pH ≈ 6) springs at SW–S slopes have the total thermal water outflow rate higher than 300 l/s and are similar in composition. The fourth and farthest group on the western slope discharges acidic (pH ≈ 2) saline (10 g/kg of Cl) water with a much lower outflow rate (< 10 l/s). 相似文献

使用RegCM3区域气候模式,嵌套欧洲数值预报中心(ECMWF)ERA40再分析资料,分别进行了中国区域在实际植被和理想植被分布情况下各15年时间长度(1987-2001)的积分试验,以研究我国土地利用状况对气候的影响。通过两个试验结果的对比,研究了我国土地利用状况对气候的影响。分析主要集中于气温、降水等的变化上,并对结果进行了统计显著性检验。结果表明,当代土地利用/植被覆盖变化加强了中国地区冬、夏季的季风环流,同时改变了地表能量平衡状况,从而对各气候要素产生重要影响。冬季,植被改变引起长江以南降水减少、气温降低,长江以北降水增加。夏季,植被改变显著影响了南方地区的气候,使得这里降水增多,黄淮、江淮气温降低,华南气温上升;同时引起中国北方降水减少,气温在西北部分植被退化地区升高。植被变化对日最低、最高气温的影响更大。总体来说,土地利用引起了年平均降水在南方增加、北方减少,年平均气温在南方显著降低。 相似文献

Large‐scale, servo‐hydraulic shake tables are a central fixture of many earthquake engineering and structural dynamics laboratories. Wear and component failure from frequent use may lead to control problems resulting in reduced motion fidelity, necessitating repairs and replacement of major components. This paper presents a methodology to evaluate shake table performance pre‐ and post‐repair, including the definition of important performance metrics. The strategy suggested is presented in the context of the rebuilding of a 4.9 × 3.1 m, 350‐kN‐capacity uniaxial shake table. In this case, the rebuild consisted of characterization of wear to table components, replacement of worn bearing surfaces, and replacement of hydraulic accumulators. To assess the effectiveness of the repair actions, sinusoidal and triangular waves, white noise, and earthquake histories were run on the table before and after the rebuild. The repair actions were successful in reducing the position and velocity dependence of friction, improving the ability of control algorithms to accurately reproduce earthquake motions. The maximum and average response spectral misfits in the period range of 0.1–2 seconds were reduced from approximately 50% to 15%, and from 5% to less than 2.5%, respectively. 相似文献
