Lammerite-β, Cu3(AsO4)2, occurs as a product of the post-eruption fumarole activity of the second cinder cone of the North breach of the Great Fissure Tolbachik eruption in 1975–1976, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. Sporadic light to dark green splinter-shaped grains are no larger than 0.15 mm in size. Cleavage is not observed. The mechanical admixture of finely dispersed hematite forms condensed brownish spots that are occasionally zonal relative to the contours of the lammerite-β grains. Associated minerals are euchlorine, piypite, alumoklyuchevskite, alarsite, and lammerite. Lammerite-β is brittle and transparent and has vitreous luster. The calculated density is 5.06 g/cm3. The mineral is not pleochroic, biaxial (+), α = 1.887(5), β = 1.936(5), γ = 2.01(1), 2V(calc.) = 80.9°; dispersion is strong, r < v. The new mineral is monoclinic, the space group is P21/c, a = 6.306(1), b = 8.643(1), c = 11.310(1) Å, β = 92.26(1)°, V = 615.9(1) Å3, and Z = 4. Characteristic reflections in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern (I-d-hkl) are 100-2.83-004, 10-5.65-002, and 10-4.32-020. The chemical composition is as follows, wt %: 51.30 CuO, 0.32 ZnO, 49.12 As2O3, with a total of 100.74 wt %. The empirical and idealized formulas are Cu3.00Zn0.02As1.99O8 and Cu3(AsO4)2, respectively.  相似文献

Structural, morphological, magnetic, and thermal properties have been investigated for a novel post-perovskite oxide CaPtO3 synthesized under high pressure. By comparing obtained structural parameters with those for known post-perovskite compounds, we argue that the chemical bond has a strong covalent character. Precise measurements of the Langevin susceptibility χ 0 = −9.6 × 10−5 emu/mol and Debye temperature θ ∼ 470 K provide a good opportunity to confirm the reliability of first-principle calculations on predicting physical properties of the Earth’s D” layer.  相似文献

A new method for the speciation of Fe and Mn at mineral surfaces is proposed using X-ray absorption fine structure in conversion electron yield mode (CEY-XAFS). This method generally reflects information on the species at the sub-μm scale from the particle surface due to the limited escape depth of the inelastic Auger electron. The surface sensitivity of this method was assessed by experiments on two samples of granite showing different degrees of weathering. The XANES spectra of the Fe-K and Mn-K edge clearly gave different information for CEY and fluorescence (FL) modes. These XANES spectra of Fe and Mn show a good fit upon application of least-squares fitting using ferrihydrite/MnO2 and biotite as the end members. The XANES spectra collected by CEY mode provided more selective information on the secondary phases which are probably present at the mineral surfaces. In particular, CEY-XANES spectra of Mn indicated the presence of Mn oxide in unweathered granite despite a very small contribution of Mn oxide being indicated by FL-XANES and selective chemical-extraction analyses. Manganese oxide could not be detected by micro-beam XANES (beam size: 5 × 5 μm2) in unweathered granite, suggesting that Mn oxide thinly and ubiquitously coats mineral surface at a sub-μm scale. This information is important, since Mn oxide can be the host for various trace elements. CEY-XAFS can prove to be a powerful tool as a highly sensitive surface speciation method. Combination of CEY and FL-XAFS will help identify minor phases that form at mineral surfaces, but identification of Fe and Mn oxides at mineral surfaces is critical to understand the migration of trace elements in water-rock interaction.  相似文献

Previous studies have demonstrated that riparian vegetation leads to channel transformation from a multi-bar to a single-thread channel planform. However, it still remains unclear how the presence of pioneer and mature vegetation affects the morphodynamics of single-thread meandering rivers. In this study, we therefore investigated the effects of vegetation strength on the morphodynamic evolution of an experimental meandering channel. Three physical laboratory experiments were conducted using alfalfa sprouts in different life stages – no vegetation, immature vegetation, and mature vegetation – to simulate different floodplain vegetation strengths. Our results demonstrate that vegetation plays a key role in mediating bank erosion and point-bar accretion, and that this is reflected in both the evolution of the channel bed as well as the sediment flux. The presence of mature vegetation maintained a deep, single-thread channel by reducing bank erosion, thereby limiting both channel widening and sediment storage capacity. Conversely, an unvegetated floodplain led to channel widening and high sediment storage capacity. Channel evolution in the unvegetated scenario showed that the active sediment supply from outer bank erosion led to slightly delayed point-bar accretion on the inner banks due to helical flow, deflecting the surface flow toward the outer banks and causing further erosion. In contrast, in the immature vegetation scenario, the outer banks were also initially eroded, but point-bar accretion did not clearly progress. This led to a greater width-to-depth ratio, resulting in a transition from a single- to a multi-thread channel with minor flow paths on the floodplain. The experimental results suggest that the eco-morphodynamic effects of young (low-strength) and mature (high-strength) vegetation are different. Notably, low-strength, early-stage vegetation increases channel complexity by accelerating both channel widening and branching, and therefore might promote the coexistence of multi-bars and pioneer vegetation.  相似文献

Seaports are located in vulnerable areas to climate change impacts: on coasts susceptible to sea-level rise and storms or at mouths of rivers susceptible to flooding. They serve a vital function within the local, regional, and global economy. Their locations in the heart of sensitive estuarine environments make it an imperative to minimize the impacts of natural hazards. Climate impacts, like a projected SLR of .6?m to 2?m and doubling of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes by 2100, will result in more extreme events at many seaports. To assess the current state of knowledge on this issue, we surveyed port authorities from around the world about how administrators felt climate change might impact their operations, what sea-level change would create operational problems, and how they planned to adapt to new environmental conditions. The planned rapid expansion of ports reported by the survey respondents indicates that adaptation measures should be considered as ports construct new infrastructure that may still be in use at the end of the century. Respondents agreed that the ports community needs to address this issue and most felt relatively uninformed about potential climate impacts. Although most ports felt that SLR would not be an issue at their port this century, sea-level rise was nevertheless an issue of great concern. Our results suggest opportunities for the scientific community to engage with port practitioners to prepare proactively for climate change impacts on this sector.  相似文献

2008年5月下旬末至6月中旬,广东出现了历史罕见的持续时间长、范围大、强度强、灾害重的暴雨到大暴雨降水过程,并有4个明显降水期.诊断分析发现:过程是在亚洲中纬度两槽一弱脊,东槽明显的平均背景场产生的,副高较弱位置较东,南支槽活跃,每一强降水期与一次西风槽的影响相联系,高空急流和低层切变线的南压过程配合一次强降水的发生;低空急流的最大风速变化与暴雨的发生同步,降水的减弱期伴随低空急流的向上抬升;过程的水汽源于孟加拉湾和南海,而以前者为主,水汽的辐合主要发生在华南沿海;龙舟水期间存在两个明显的局地经向环流,低层的两股气流在20~25°N区辐合抬升为持续性强龙舟水的产生提供了稳定的上升运动背景;4个主降水期有3个是在层结不稳定的条件下出现暴雨.  相似文献

Summary The application of principal components and cluster analysis to vertical ozone concentration profiles in Tsukuba, Japan, has been explored. Average monthly profiles and profiles of the ratio between standard deviation and the absolute ozone concentration (SDPR) of 1 km data were calculated from the original ozone concentration data. Mean (first) and gradient (second) components explained more than 80% of the variation in both the 0–6 km tropospheric and 11–20 km troposphere–stratosphere (interspheric) layers. The principal components analysis not only reproduced the expected inverse relationship between mean ozone concentration and tropopause height (r 2 = 0.41) and that in the tropospheric layer this is larger in spring and summer, but also yielded new information as follows. The larger gradient component score in summer for the interspheric layer points to the seasonal variation of the troposphere–stratosphere exchange. The minimum SDPR was at about 3 km in the tropospheric layer and the maximum was at about 17 km in the interspheric layer. The tropospheric SDPR mean component score was larger in summer, possibly reflecting the mixing of Pacific maritime air masses with urban air masses. The cluster analysis of the monthly ozone profiles for the 1970s and 2000s revealed different patterns for winter and summer. The month of May was part of the winter pattern in the 1970s but part of the summer pattern during the 2000s. This statistically detected change likely reflects the influence of global warming. We calculate the so-called convective term, which shows up in the expression for the angular velocity of the elastic Earth, within the Andoyer formalism. The term emerges due to the fact that the elasticity-caused perturbation depends not only on the instantaneous orientation of the Earth but also on its instantaneous angular velocity. We demonstrate that this term makes a considerable contribution into the overall angular velocity. At the same time the convective term turns out to be automatically included into the correction to the nutation series due to the elasticity, if the series is defined by the perturbation of the figure axis (and not of the rotational axis) in accordance with the current IAU resolution. Hence it is not necessary to take the effect of the convective term into consideration in the perturbation of the elastic Earth as far as the nutation is related to the motion of the figure axis.  相似文献
