Based on the statistics of the peaks in the random Gaussian field, we put forward a method to model the evolution of quasars, which are assumed to be a phenomenon of the early stages for some massive galaxies. Our calculations show that the cold-hot mixed dark matter model with h = 0.3 cannot match the observed quasar abundance at redshift z = 4.5, and other prevailing CDM models, such as the mixed dark matter model with h = 0.2, the tilted CDM models with n = 0.7 or 0.8, and the flat CDM models with = 0.6 or 0.7, are compatible with the observation of the abundance of QSOs on the range of z = 2-5. 相似文献
The existence of universal power laws at low wavenumbers (K) in the energy spectrum (Eu) of the turbulent longitudinal velocity (u) is examined theoretically and experimentally for the near-neutral atmospheric surface layer. Newly derived power-law solutions to Tchen's approximate integral spectral budget equation are tested for strong- and weak-interaction cases between the mean flow and turbulent vorticity fields. To verify whether these solutions reproduce the measured Eu at low wavenumbers, velocity measurements were collected in the dynamic sublayer of the atmosphere at three sites and in the inner region of a laboratory open channel. The atmospheric surface layer measurements were carried out using triaxial sonic anemometers over tall corn, short grass, and smooth desert-like sandy soil. The open channel measurements were performed using a two-dimensional boundary-layer probe above a smooth stainless steel bed. Comparisons between the proposed analytical solution for Eu, the dimensional analysis by Kader and Yaglom, and the measured Haar wavelet Eu spectra are presented. It is shown that when strong interaction between the mean flow and turbulent vorticity field occurs, wavelet spectra measurements, predictions by the analytical solution, and predictions by the dimensional analysis of Kader-Yaglom (KY) are all in good agreement and confirm the existence of a -1 power law in Eu(= Cuuu2* K-1, where Cuu is a constant and u* is the friction velocity). The normalized upper wavenumber limit of the -1 power law (Kz = 1, where z is the height above the zero-plane displacement) is estimated using two separate approaches and compared to the open channel and atmospheric surface-layer measurements. It is demonstrated that the measured upper wavenumber limit is consistent with Tchen's budget but not with the KY assumptions. The constraints as to whether the mean flow and turbulent vorticity strongly interact are considered using a proposed analysis by Panchev. It is demonstrated that the arguments by Panchev cannot be consistent with surface-layer turbulence. Using dimensional analysis and Heisenberg's turbulent viscosity model, new constraints are proposed. The new constraints agree with the open channel and atmospheric surface-layer measurements, Townsend's inactive eddy motion hypothesis, and the Perry et al. analysis. 相似文献
Summary. A sample of ferromanganese crust deposit (SCHW-1D) was cut into two sets of 1 mm slices for palaeomagnetic study. Alternating field and thermal demagnetization, and isothermal remanent magnetization analyses were performed on each thin slice. The results reveal the presence of a stable magnetism and both normal and reversed polarity intervals in the specimens. The observed polarity intervals cannot be confidently correlated with the geomagnetic polarity time-scale of the last 10 Myr due to the polarity overlap inherent in the sampling technique. But the results confirm the slow accretion rate of ferromanganese deposit determined by 10Be method and suggest potential use of ferromanganese deposits in palaeomagnetic and tectonic studies. 相似文献

Many debris flows were triggered in the Chenyulan River Watershed in Taiwan in a rainstorm caused by the Typhoon Toraji. There are 117 gullies with a significant steep topography in the catchment. During this Typhoon, debris flows were initiated in 43 of these gullies, while in 34 gullies, it was not certain whether they have occurred. High-intensity short-duration rainfall was the main triggering factor for these gully type debris flows which are probably entrained by a “fire hose” mechanism. Previous research identified 47 factors related to topography, geology, and hydrology, which may play a role in the formation of gully type debris flows. For a better understanding of the probability of the formation of debris flows, it is proposed to represent the factors related to topography, geology, and hydrology by one single factor. In addition to the existing topographic and geological factor, a normalized critical rainfall factor is suggested with an effective cumulative precipitation and a maximum hourly rainfall intensity. In this paper, a formation model for debris flows is proposed, which combines these topographic, geological, and hydraulic factors. A relationship of these factors with a triggering threshold is proposed. The model produces a good assessment of the probability of occurrence of debris flows in the study area. The model may be used for the prediction of debris flows in other areas because it is mostly based on the initiation mechanisms and not only on the statistical analyses of a unique variety of local factors. The research provides a new and exciting way to study the occurrence of debris flows initiated by a “fire hose” mechanism. 相似文献
Regarded as an effective method for treating the global warming problem, carbon emissions abatement (CEA) allocation has become a hot research topic and has drawn great attention recently. However, the traditional CEA allocation methods generally set efficient targets for the decision-making units (DMUs) using the farthest targets, which neglects the DMUs’ unwillingness to maximize (minimize) some of their inputs (outputs). In addition, the total CEA level is usually subjectively determined without any consideration of the current carbon emission situations of the DMUs. To surmount these deficiencies, we incorporate data envelopment analysis and its closest target technique into the CEA allocation problem. Firstly, a two-stage approach is proposed for setting the optimal total CEA level for the DMUs. Then, another two-stage approach is given for allocating the identified optimal total CEA among the DMUs. Our approach provides more flexibility when setting new input and output targets for the DMUs in CEA allocation. Finally, the proposed approaches are applied for CEA target setting and allocation for 20 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies.
