The State of Santa Catarina produces the greatest quantity of edible mollusks in Brazil. To guarantee sanitary qualify, mollusk cultures should be monitored for contamination by pathogenic microorganisms. A self-purification or "depuration" system that eliminates Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium contamination from oysters has been developed and evaluated. The depuration process occurred within a closed system, in which 1000 L of water was recirculated for 24 h. The water was sterilized with ultraviolet (UV) light, chlorine, or both together. Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) artificially contaminated with S. typhimurium were harvested every 6 h. Samples of oyster tissue were excised and both the presence and numbers of bacteria were determined. Combined UV light and chlorine treatments resulted in total elimination of bacteria within 12 h. Polymerase chain reaction detected bacteria in water exposed to the three treatments. This pioneering study is the first of its kind in Brazil and represents a major contribution to commercial mollusk culture in this country. 相似文献

The main objective was to study the seasonal variation of mercury concentrations in different tissues (muscle, hepatopancreas and gills) of Carcinus maenas from low and high Hg contaminated areas, a valuable resource in temperate estuaries and a possible pathway for human uptake. Individuals of two size classes (around 35 and 55 mm cephalothorax wide) were captured monthly between March 1999 and May 2000 in two areas of Ria de Aveiro: in the main navigation channel that connects the lagoon to the sea, and in the inner lagoon area heavily contaminated by mercury (maximum Hg in sediments of 5.4 microg g(-1)). Pronounced decreases in salinity and temperature and reduced food availability in winter seemed to be the responsible for the decline of the crab condition index (0.75-0.45) in larger individuals. Muscle and hepatopancreas exhibited higher mercury concentrations than gills, with concentrations in the contaminated site ranging from 0.03 to 0.63 microg g(-1) and 0.02 to 0.34 microg g(-1), respectively. Linear regressions between muscle and hepatopancreas (r=0.94, p<0.001) and muscle and gills (r=0.97, p<0.001) suggested a rapid redistribution of mercury inside the organism. During winter, a rapid elimination of mercury was found in the three analysed tissues followed by uptake. Larger crabs presented elimination rates from 18 to 34 ng g(-1) per week, while the smaller crabs showed lower elimination rates (10-24 ng g(-1) per week). The uptake was similar in both size classes (11-15 ng g(-1) and 8.1-15 ng g(-1) per week, respectively for large and small crabs). Our results suggest that C. maenas harvested in the contaminated areas must be considered with caution, since Hg concentrations were found to exceed the threshold concentration allowed for human consumption (0.5 microg g(-1)). 相似文献

The Proterozoic sediment-hosted Zn–(Pb) sulfide and non-sulfide deposits of the São Francisco Craton, Brazil, are partially syn-diagenetic and epigenetic and were probably formed during extensional events. The majority of the deposits occur within shallow water dolomites. The Pb isotopic data of sulfides are relatively homogeneous for individual deposits and plot above the upper crust evolution curve of the Plumbotectonic model. Some of the deposits are characterized by highly radiogenic lead (206Pb/204Pb ≥ 21) originating from the highly radioactive crust of the São Francisco Craton. Pb and S isotopic data suggest the sources of metal and sulfur for the deposits to be the basement rocks and seawater sulfates in the sediments, respectively. The relatively high temperatures of formation (100 to 250 °C) and moderate salinity (3% to 20% NaCl equiv.) of the primary fluid inclusions in the sphalerite crystals suggest the participation of basinal mineralizing fluids in ore formation. The steep paleo-geothermal gradient generated by the radioactively enriched basement rocks probably assisted in heating up the circulating mineralizing fluids. 相似文献

The Quadrilátero Ferrífero is a classic gold province on a global scale, with hundreds of individual gold occurrences in the Archean greenstone belt comprising the Rio das Velhas Supergroup. There are numerous small gold deposits, including Faria, Esperança III, Bicalho, Bela Fama, Juca Vieira, Brumal, Boa Vista, Fernandes, Moita, Roça Grande, Bico de Pedra and Pari, as well as the world-class deposits of Morro Velho and Cuiabá. All these deposits, whether large or small, are structurally controlled and related to either shear zones or folds. Extensive down-plunge continuity is a consistent feature of the deposits. In the Rio das Velhas greenstone belt, six main styles of gold mineralization are recognized. These are deposits hosted within: (1), Lapa seca (e.g., Morro Velho, Bicalho, Bela Fama), (2), Banded iron formations (e.g., Cuiabá, São Bento, Raposos, Faria, Brumal, Roça Grande), (3), Quartz veins (e.g., Juca Vieira, Fernandes), (4), Disseminated sulfides with quartz veinlets (e.g., Moita), (5), Amphibolites (e.g., Pari), and (6), Disseminated to massive base-metal sulfides (e.g., Bico de Pedra). The first four types of deposits are epigentic (orogenic) gold deposits, similar to those found in greenstone belts worldwide. The last two are unusual types of gold deposit, peculiar to the Quadrilátero Ferrífero. Bico de Pedra is a polymetallic Au–Ag–Zn–Pb–Cu deposit related to an aplite intrusion, whereas Pari is a stratiform Au-bearing-banded iron formation metamorphosed to epidote–amphibolite metamorphic facies. 相似文献

Stable isotopes ratios (δ13C and δ15N) were measured in primary producers and consumers of two bays with contrasting eutrophic conditions in the Patos Lagoon
estuary, southern Brazil: the Justino bay, a more pristine ecosystem, and the Mangueira bay, a heavily polluted region that
receives the Rio Grande city sewage and effluencts of several industries. δ13C values of organisms collected in both subsystems were not different, but δ15N values had significant statistical differences, ca. 3.5‰ higher in the Mangueira bay. It is likely that primary producers
and consumers in this subsystem are greatly influenced by higher nitrogen input due to domestic and industrial sewages. The
stable isotope analysis also corroborated several trophic interactions previously established by gut content analysis, and
due to its higher sensitivity, it was possible to better determine the contributions of different primary producers and detrital
fractions to the consumers' diets. It was confirmed that plant detritus represents the main food source for most organisms.
The stable isotope analysis also demonstrated that detritivorous benthic organisms in the same habitat have distinct diet
compositions, with differential consumption of C3 and C4 plants. This technique showed that some consumers that eat detritus
do not have in their stable isotopic signature any relationship with that of plants. It is likely that these consumers assimilate
their carbon and nitrogen from other sources like microalgae or microorganisms that colonize decaying plants. 相似文献

The line shape of the non-thermal O(1D) 6300 Å emission is calculated using the two population model of Schmitt, Abreu and Hays (Planet. Space Sci.29, 1095, 1981). The calculated line shapes simulate observations made from a space platform at different zenith angles and altitudes. As part of the continuing effort to improve the accuracy of the absolute measurements of the ambient photoelectron flux in the thermosphere from the Atmosphere Explorer Satellite Photoelectron Spectrometer experiments (PES), we present a detailed comparison of experimental photoelectron fluxes from AE-C and AE-E together with theoretical calculations of the ambient flux for the same geophysical conditions. As an additional check, the various experimental and theoretical fluxes are used to calculate the expected N2 2PG (0, 0) volume emission rate expected at 3371Å and these results are compared to AE-C Visible Airglow Experimental (VAE) experimental results. The comparisons clearly show that because of spacecraft shielding of the sensor on AE-C, the agreement with AE-E spectra for similar geophysical conditions ranges from good when shielding is minimal to poor for severe shielding cases. The calculated fluxes are lower by approx. a factor of 1.5–2.0 in absolute magnitude than the AE-E or unshielded AE-C fluxes. The N2 2PG volume emission rates calculated from the measured ambient electron fluxes overestimate the measured VAE volume emission rates by 20–30% while those calculated from the theoretical fluxes underestimate the measured emission rate by typically 30%. These data suggest therefore that the measured AE-E fluxes are 20–30% high. 相似文献

Inherent in observations of thermospheric winds from the ground with the Fabry-Perot interferometer is the assumption that the measured Doppler shift is a property of the source medium viewed by the instrumental line of sight. However, ground based airglow observations in regions of weak airglow emission near large intensity gradients may be contaminated by scattered light. Light from areas where the emission is strong can be scattered by the lower atmosphere into the field of view of the observations. Thermospheric winds deduced from the observed Doppler shifts will then show apparent convergence or divergence with respect to the site of observation. Examples of this effect are found in observations by the Michigan Airglow Observatory station located near the auroral zone at Calgary, Alberta. Simulation calculations based upon an experimental model for a significant scattering atmosphere also showed results with either convergence or divergence in the apparent neutral wind field observed by the station. 相似文献
