Fischwachstum bei Oligo-, Meso- und Eutrophie des Bodensees

Recent growth of 14 fish taxa of Lake Constance has been studied. In the mesotrophic basin summer-pelagic species opposite to the others appear to grow faster now than during earlier oligotrophic status. From trends of growth, feeding and yield (table) it is concluded that eutrophication has favoured planktivores.—In the eutrophic lower basin only coregonids grow slower than in the mesotrophic part of the lake. Factors that have caused growth differences are thought to be food density and water temperature (through changed fish distribution and different shape of basin).     

Geomagnetische Tiefentellurik

Zusammenfassung Die lokalen Unterschiede der geomagnetischen zeitlichen Variationen [1, 2] wurden mit Hilfe von 3 Reiseregistrierstationen nachFanselau [3] untersucht. Hier werden die gegenseitige Beeinflussung der Variometernadeln, Veränderung der Skalenwerte über die Breite des Registrierpapiers und die Abhängigkeit der Grösse des Skalenwertes von der Temperatur sowie von der Grösse der Vertikalintensität untersucht. Die reduzierten Skalenwerte besitzen im Mittel eine Unsicherheit von nicht mehr als 0,6%. Eine grössere Genauigkeit kann bei Feldmessungen nicht erwartet werden. Aufstellung und Justierung der Stationen im Felde werden beschrieben.

Summary Local differences of geomagnetic variations [1, 2] were investigated by three ambulant geomagnetic variographs afterFanselau [3]. The influence of the variometer needles on each other, the dependence of the scale-values on the position of the lightpoint and the changing of the scale-value with temperature and with the value of the vertical intensity are shown. The reduced scale-values have an uncertainty of not more than 0.6%. A higher accuracy is not to be expected for field measurements. The menagement and the adjustment of the stations in field are described.

Untersuchungen am zugefrorenen Bodensee

Zusammenfassung Für den Winter 1962/63 wird ein überblick über den Gang der Luft- und Wassertemperaturen für den Bodensee, den Beginn und den Verlauf der inversen Temperaturschichtung sowie über Ergebnisse von Eisbeobachtungen gegeben. Die Richtungen der im ?stlichen Obersee beobachteten Str?mungen werden mit ?lteren Ergebnissen verglichen. Als Ursache der Entstehung von Str?mungen wird die Windbewegung angesehen. Die Ergebnisse von Messungen des Sauerstoffgehaltes und des Phosphatgehaltes bewiesen neben der bestehenden thermischen auch eine qualitative Schichtung des Wasserk?rpers. Atmospherically-derived radionuclides as tracers of sediment mixing and accumulation in near-shore marine and lake sediments: Evidence from7Be,210Pb,and239,240Pu

Cosmogenic⁷Be(t_1/2 = 53.3days) has been used to estimate particle-mixing rates in the upper layers of lacustrine and near-shore marine sediments. Excess²¹⁰Pb and/or^239,240Pu have provided limits on rates of sediment accumulation in these environments and indices of the efficiency of the sediments as collectors of reactive nuclides over longer time scale.In sediment cores from Long Island Sound (marine) and Lake Whitney (fresh-water)⁷Be was measurable in the top 2–3 cm. Diffusion-analog particle-mixing coefficients calculated from these data are in the range of 10^?7 cm²/s. For Long Island Sound the coefficients are lower by factors of 3–6 than those estimated from the depth distributions of excess²³⁴Th at the same stations [14]. For Lake Whitney the calculated mixing coefficient is an upper limit because of the possibility of a sampling artifact.Measurements of total (wet + dry) atmospheric deposition of⁷Be in New Haven give an average flux of 0.07 dpm/cm² day during March-November, 1977; this is equivalent to a steady-state inventory of 5.4 dpm/cm² in a perfect collector. Sediment cores from Long Island Sound contain about half this⁷Be inventory, consistent with either a mean residence time for⁷Be in the water column of about one half-life or with post-depositional loss of⁷Be from Long Island Sound sediments. The Lake Whitney cores contain about 5 dpm/cm², much nearer the atmospheric delivery. A higher inventory of⁷Be in fresh-water, as compared to marine, sediments could be due either to a shorter mean residence time for⁷Be in fresh water or to lateral transport processes in the lake or its catchment. High inventories of excess²¹⁰Pb and^239,240Pu in Lake Whitney sediments demonstrate the importance of lateral transport on longer time scales at least.     

Zur Methodik der Quantitativen Biologischen Probenahmen in Stark Strömenden Flüssen

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Technik zur Entnahme quantitativer Organismenproben aus tiefen, schnellfliessenden, steinigen Flüssen beschrieben. Mit Hilfe eines kreisrunden Stechsegmentes wird ein Areal von rund 750 cm² abgegrenzt und dieses sodann mit einem Vakuumschlauch abgesaugt. Das Mundstück des Schlauches wird durch einen Taucher geführt.

Summary A technique is described for taking quantitative samples of organisms from deep, rapidly flowing rivers with rocky beds. An area of about 750 cm² (0.81 sqft) is confined by a circular sampler, which penetrates the bottom. Organisms in the enclosure are freed from the substrate by hand. Smaller sediment particles, organisms, and water are then pumped out by a vacuum hose. The intake of the vacuum hose is guided by a diver.

     

Normative composition and classification of lunar igneous rocks and glasses,I. Lunar igneous rocks

678 major element analyses and all available trace element determinations of lunar rocks with igneous textures were collected from the literature. Rittmann norms were calculated by an ALGOL program. The norm values, grouped according to increasing clinopyroxene contents, were plotted into quartz-plagioclase-orthopyroxene and olivine-plagioclase-orthopyroxene triangles, respectively. The plots indicate that all lunar rocks form a compositional continuum that starts from rocks very high in plagioclase and continues, with increasing clinopyroxene, to plagioclase-poorer and orthopyroxene-richer rocks containing partly quartz, partly olivine.According to apparent clusters in the plots, and taking into account lunar rock types defined by previous authors, the continuum of normative compositions was subdivided into five major rock groups (I to V). The averages of these groups can be characterized by clinopyroxene contents and plagioclase/orthopyroxene ratios (I: 3% cpx, plag/opx = 30; II: 4% cpx, plag/opx = 7; III: 8% cpx, plag/opx = 2; IV: 26% cpx, plag/opx = 0.8; V: 34% cpx, plag/opx = 1.8). According to the contents in K-feldspar, from groups III and V K-rich subgroups were separated. Average contents of major elements and trace elements were calculated for main groups and subgroups.For the normative groups of lunar igneous rocks, names are proposed which conform to the nomenclature of terrestrial rocks.
