This paper investigates the feasibility of Least square support vector machine (LSSVM) model to cope the problem of implicit performance function during first order second moment (FOSM) method based slope reliability analysis. LSSVM is firmly based on the theory of statistical learning. In LSSVM, Vapnik’s ε -insensitive loss function has been replaced by a cost function which corresponds to a form of ridge regression. Here, LSSVM has been used as a regression technique to approximate implicit performance functions. A slope example has been presented for illustrating the applicability of LSSVM based FOSM method. The developed LSSVM based FOSM has been compared with the artificial neural network (ANN) and least square method. The result shows that the approximation of LSSVM can be used in the FOSM method for slope reliability analysis.  相似文献

Gas pistoning is a type of eruptive behavior described first at K??lauea volcano and characterized by the (commonly) cyclic rise and fall of the lava surface within a volcanic vent or lava lake. Though recognized for decades, its cause continues to be debated, and determining why and when it occurs has important implications for understanding vesiculation and outgassing processes at basaltic volcanoes. Here, we describe gas piston activity that occurred at the Pu??u ???????? cone, in K??lauea??s east rift zone, during June 2006. Direct, detailed measurements of lava level, made from time-lapse camera images captured at close range, show that the gas pistons during the study period lasted from 2 to 60?min, had volumes ranging from 14 to 104?m3, displayed a slowing rise rate of the lava surface, and had an average gas release duration of 49?s. Our data are inconsistent with gas pistoning models that invoke gas slug rise or a dynamic pressure balance but are compatible with models which appeal to gas accumulation and loss near the top of the lava column, possibly through the generation and collapse of a foam layer.  相似文献

The stability of subsurface Light Nonaqueous Phase Liquids (LNAPLs) is a key factor driving expectations for remedial measures at LNAPL sites. The conventional approach to resolving LNAPL stability has been to apply Darcy's Equation. This paper explores an alternative approach wherein single‐well tracer dilution tests with intermittent mixing are used to resolve LNAPL stability. As a first step, an implicit solution for single‐well intermittent mixing tracer dilution tests is derived. This includes key assumptions and limits on the allowable time between intermittent mixing events. Second, single‐well tracer dilution tests with intermittent mixing are conducted under conditions of known LNAPL flux. This includes a laboratory sand tank study and two field tests at active LNAPL recovery wells. Results from the sand tank studies indicate that LNAPL fluxes in wells can be transformed into formation fluxes using corrections for (1) LNAPL thicknesses in the well and formation and (2) convergence of flow to the well. Using the apparent convergence factor from the sand tank experiment, the average error between the known and measured LNAPL fluxes is 4%. Results from the field studies show nearly identical known and measured LNAPL fluxes at one well. At the second well the measured fluxes appear to exceed the known value by a factor of two. Agreement between the known and measured LNAPL fluxes, within a factor of two, indicates that single‐well tracer dilution tests with intermittent mixing can be a viable means of resolving LNAPL stability.  相似文献

Land use (and land management) change is seen as the primary factor responsible for changes in sediment and nutrient delivery to water bodies. Understanding how sediment and nutrient (or constituent) concentrations vary with land use is critical to understanding the current and future impact of land use change on aquatic ecosystems. Access to appropriate land-use based water quality data is also important for calculating reliable load estimates using water quality models. This study collated published and unpublished runoff, constituent concentration and load data for Australian catchments. Water quality data for total suspended sediments (TSS), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were collated from runoff events with a focus on catchment areas that have a single or majority of the contributing area under one land use. Where possible, information on the dissolved forms of nutrients were also collated. For each data point, information was included on the site location, land use type and condition, contributing catchment area, runoff, laboratory analyses, the number of samples collected over the hydrograph and the mean constituent concentration calculation method. A total of ~750 entries were recorded from 514 different geographical sites covering 13 different land uses. We found that the nutrient concentrations collected using "grab" sampling (without a well defined hydrograph) were lower than for sites with gauged auto-samplers although this data set was small and no statistical analysis could be undertaken. There was no statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between data collected at plot and catchment scales for the same land use. This is most likely due to differences in land condition over-shadowing the effects of spatial scale. There was, however, a significant difference in the concentration value for constituent samples collected from sites where >90% of the catchment was represented by a single land use, compared to sites with <90% of the upstream area represented by a single land use. This highlights the need for more single land use water quality data, preferably over a range of spatial scales. Overall, the land uses with the highest median TSS concentrations were mining (~50,000mg/l), horticulture (~3000mg/l), dryland cropping (~2000mg/l), cotton (~600mg/l) and grazing on native pastures (~300mg/l). The highest median TN concentrations are from horticulture (~32,000μg/l), cotton (~6500μg/l), bananas (~2700μg/l), grazing on modified pastures (~2200μg/l) and sugar (~1700μg/l). For TP it is forestry (~5800μg/l), horticulture (~1500μg/l), bananas (~1400μg/l), dryland cropping (~900mg/l) and grazing on modified pastures (~400μg/l). For the dissolved nutrient fractions, the sugarcane land use had the highest concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) and dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP). Urban land use had the highest concentrations of dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP). This study provides modellers and catchment managers with an increased understanding of the processes involved in estimating constituent concentrations, the data available for use in modelling projects, and the conditions under which they should be applied. Areas requiring more data are also discussed.  相似文献

We present 3D simulations of rotationally induced line variability arising from complex circumstellar environment of classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) using the results of the 3D magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations of Romanova et al., who considered accretion on to a CTTS with a misaligned dipole magnetic axis with respect to the rotational axis. The density, velocity and temperature structures of the MHD simulations are mapped on to the radiative transfer grid, and corresponding line source function and the observed profiles of neutral hydrogen lines (Hβ, Paβ and Brγ) are computed using the Sobolev escape probability method. We study the dependency of line variability on inclination angles ( i ) and magnetic axis misalignment angles (Θ). We find the line profiles are relatively insensitive to the details of the temperature structure of accretion funnels, but are influenced more by the mean temperature of the flow and its geometry. By comparing our models with the Paβ profiles of 42 CTTS observed by Folha & Emerson, we find that models with a smaller misaligngment angle  (Θ < ∼15°)  are more consistent with the observations which show that majority of Paβ are rather symmetric around the line centre. For a high inclination system with a small dipole misalignment angle  (Θ≈ 15°)  , only one accretion funnel (on the upper hemisphere) is visible to an observer at any given rotational phase. This can cause an anticorrelation of the line equivalent to the width in the blue wing  ( v < 0)  and that in the red wing  ( v > 0)  over half of a rotational period, and a positive correlation over the other half. We find a good overall agreement of the line variability behaviour predicted by our model and those from observations.  相似文献

We use several main-sequence models to derive distances (and extinctions), with statistically meaningful uncertainties for 11 star-forming regions and young clusters. The model dependency is shown to be small, allowing us to adopt the distances derived using one model. Using these distances, we have revised the age order for some of the clusters of Mayne et al. The new nominal ages are: ≈2 Myr for NGC 6530 and the ONC, ≈3 Myr for λ Orionis, NGC 2264 and σ Orionis, ≈4–5 Myr for NGC 2362, ≈13 Myr for h and χ Per, ≈20 Myr for NGC 1960 and ≈40 Myr for NGC 2547. In cases of significantly variable extinction, we have derived individual extinctions using a revised Q-method. These new data show that the largest remaining uncertainty in deriving an age ordering (and necessarily ages) is metallicity. We also discuss the use of a feature we term the radiative–convective gap overlap to provide a diagnostic of isochronal age spreads or varying accretion histories within a given star formation region. Finally, recent derivations of the distance to the ONC lie in two groups. Our new more precise distance of 391+12−9 pc allows us to decisively reject the further distance; we adopt 400 pc as a convenient value.  相似文献

The protozoan populations of microhabitats in Blue Lake, Raoul Island, Kermadec Group, 28° 30’ S 178° 00’ W are described qualitatively and semi‐quantitatively. The in situ and in vitro pH values of the four micro‐habitats examined were recorded. After two days in vitro there was a marked drop in the pH of the mud zones, a slight drop in pH of the water zone and no decrease in the pH at the surface. The nature of the protozoan populations is discussed in relation to the pH values and the changes which took place in these values.  相似文献

The use of environmental data in biogeographic studies of the deep sea is providing greater insight into the processes underlying large‐scale patterns of diversity. Recent surveys of Australia's western continental margin (~100–1100 m) provide systematic sampling of invertebrate megafauna along a gradient of 22° of latitude (13–35° S). Diversity patterns of decapod crustaceans were examined and we investigated the relative importance of environmental and spatial predictor variables on both species richness (alpha diversity) and species turnover. Distance‐based linear models (DistLM) indicated a suite of variables were important in predicting species turnover, of which temperature and oxygen were the most influential. These reflected the oceanographic features that dominate distinct depth bathomes along the slope. The numbers of species within samples were highly variable; a small but significant increase in diversity towards the tropics was evident. Replicated sampling along the margin at ~100 m and ~400 m provided an opportunity to compare latitudinal patterns of diversity at different depths. On the shallow upper slope (~400 m) temperature was disassociated from latitude and the latter proved to be the best predictor of sample species richness. The predictive power of latitude over other variables indicates that proximity to the highly diverse Indo‐West Pacific (IWP) may be important, especially considering that almost 40% of species in this study had a wide IWP distribution. In the management of Australia's marine environments, geomorphic surrogates have been emphasised when defining areas for protection. We found sea‐floor characteristics were relatively less important in predicting richness or community composition.  相似文献
