In order to test the sensitivity of the transitional phase of the 2006 West African monsoon (WAM) onset to different mechanisms, weather research and forecasting (WRF) model simulations have been carried out addressing the role of the Saharan heat low (SHL) and its sensitivity to the albedo field and to the northern Africa orography, and the role of the sea surface temperature (SST) in the eastern tropical Atlantic and Mediterranean. Lowering albedo over the desert region induces a northward location of the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ), while removing mountains in North Africa reduces rainfall over West Africa. Shifting SST forward by 15?days leads to a northward location of the ITCZ before the WAM onset. However none of these factors modifies the timing of the WAM onset in 2006. The transitional phase of the 2006 WAM onset has been examined in more detail. The enhancement of SHL intensity, combined with the development of the oceanic cold tongue in the Guinea gulf, leads to low-level moisture flux divergence in the ITCZ reducing rainfall and increasing low-level humidity over the Sahel. However, weakening of convection can be clearly attributed to dry-air intrusions in mid-levels, originating from the subtropical westerly jet and associated with Rossby wave pattern over North Africa. Sensitivity tests on the synoptic scale forcing outside of the WRF model domain confirm the dominating role of large-scale dynamics to control the transitional phase of the WAM onset and its timing. After 8 months of nearly continuous measurements the GOLF instrument, aboard SOHO, has detected acoustic mode frequencies
of more than 100 modes, extending from 1.4 mHz to 4.9 mHz. In this paper, we compare these results with the best available
predictions coming from solar models. To verify the quality of the data, we examine the asymptotic seismic parameters; this
confirms the improvements achieved in solar models during the last decade.
Using the GOLF set of frequencies for l=0, 1, 2, 3 combined with the LOWL second year data set for l > 3 we then carry out
inversions to infer properties of the solar core.
This largely confirms the previous results down to around 0.1 R⊙, while there remain differences, even closer to the centre,
where the present study shows an extreme sensitivity of the inversion results to the values of the frequencies. We finally

The GOLF experiment on the SOHO mission aims to study the internal structure of the sun by measuring the spectrum of global oscillations in the frequency range 10–7 to 10–2 Hz. Bothp andg mode oscillations will be investigated, with the emphasis on the low order long period waves which penetrate the solar core. The instrument employs an extension to space of the proven ground-based technique for measuring the mean line-of-sight velocity of the viewed solar surface. By avoiding the atmospheric disturbances experienced from the ground, and choosing a non-eclipsing orbit, GOLF aims to improve the instrumental sensitivity limit by an order of magnitude to 1 mm s–1 over 20 days for frequencies higher than 2.10–4 Hz. A sodium vapour resonance cell is used in a longitudinal magnetic field to sample the two wings of the solar absorption line. The addition of a small modulating field component enables the slope of the wings to be measured. This provides not only an internal calibration of the instrument sensitivity, but also offers a further possibility to recognise, and correct for, the solar background signal produced by the effects of solar magnetically active regions. The use of an additional rotating polariser enables measurement of the mean solar line-of-sight magnetic field, as a secondary objective. 相似文献

The reaction of sodium bromide particles in the presence of ozone was studied in a flow system both under dark conditions and with 254 nm radiation. We found that there was significant formation of gaseous bromine (probably Br2) in the presence of ozone in the dark, and that bromide deposited to the walls of the Pyrex reaction flask was its source. The observed rate of gaseous bromine formation in these experiments was approximately 100–1000 times faster than expected based on the knownrate constant for aqueous reaction of bromide with ozone. While the mechanism responsible for this enhanced reactivity was not identified, based on previous reports we suggest that the glass surface converted ozone to more reactive species, such as hydroxyl radical, which in turn oxidized bromide. In the presence of 254 nm radiation, rates of gaseous bromine collection were further enhanced, likely as a result of increased radical production in the system, and wall-deposited bromide was also the source of the gaseous bromine. In these `light' experiments, there was a significant decline in ozone mixing ratios, consistent with bromine radical chemistry. These results suggest the possibility that ozone reacting with internally mixed silicate/sea-salt particles might be a significant mechanism for the oxidation of particulate halides, and subsequent release of photoactive halogen species, in the marine boundary layer. 相似文献

A new world-class stratiform magnesite deposit has been recently discovered near the village of Borobia in Soria, Spain. The mineralization consists of a 25-45 m massive to banded magnesite layer sandwiched in between a Lower Cambrian carbonate formation and an upper shale horizon. It forms an arcuate belt striking NW-SE to W-E, which outcrops for 7.3 km in two elevations separated by a central valley that is covered by a thin layer of Pleistocene sediments. The orebody is confined by two regionally important faults and is probably associated with the dolomitization and silicification of the Cambrian limestones. Geological ore resources are estimated to exceed 175 Mt with MgO contents varying from 36 to 47% by weight. At present, the owners, Magnesitas y Dolomías de Borobia, S.L., are at an advanced stage of planning for extraction. This report presents some results of an ongoing geological exploration programme and shows the general features of the geology and mineralogy of the Borobia deposit. 相似文献

Summary Results of instrumentation, test mining and computer aided stability analyses were combined to design the most stable gate road layout for two-seam longwall mining at the Plateau Mining Company. Five layouts were evaluated; these layouts used a combination of yield and/or large pillars with either three-entry or two-entry development systems.A layout which used a yield pillar within a two-entry development system resulted in the most stable gate roads for two-seam mining. Another layout using a yield and large pillar was shown to be most stable for single-seam mining of the top seam, but it was unsuitable for two-seam mining because of seam interaction problems.The size of the yield pillar was determined by satisfying several design requirements, as well as by limited test mining; test results showed good, medium-term stability for the yield pillars, with a possible need for rib control. It was shown that the yield pillars might be effective in controlling the floor heave, and could minimize interaction problems in two-seam mining. 相似文献

A flexibility-based formulation of a new mass matrix for the dynamic analysis of spatial frames consisting of curved elements with variable cross-sections is presented. The main characteristic of such formulations is the exact equilibrium of forces at any interior point, with no additional hypotheses about the distribution of displacements, strains or stresses. Accordingly, the derived element mass matrix takes into account the exact stiffness and mass distribution throughout each element. In validation tests, results obtained with this method are compared with those obtained by other numerical or analytical formulations, showing the accuracy of the proposed method. The comparison of experimental results for a multispan arch bridge subjected to a dynamic load with those achieved by means of the proposed method are finally included to illustrate its efficiency in the treatment of complex structures. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The main objective of this paper is to present an approach that contributes to evaluate beach quality based on a combined analysis of beach occupancy and the perception of beach users. The study area is a major Mediterranean tourist destination in NE Spain. Six beaches that fulfilled different environmental and social criteria were assessed. Sampling took place during 2004 and 2005. An analysis of beach occupancy showed that highly accessible urban beaches suffer the most from overcrowding. A comparison of the two approaches (occupancy and perception) indicates that a higher sand availability increased user satisfaction, although not as much as might have been expected because other parameters are also highly relevant in evaluating beach quality from the perspective of beach user such as physical characteristics, landscape and facilities. 相似文献
