We present gas temperature, density, entropy and cooling time profiles for the cores of a sample of 15 galaxy groups observed with Chandra . We find that the entropy profiles follow a power-law profile down to very small fractions of R 500. Differences between the gas profiles of groups with radio-loud and radio-quiet brightest group galaxies are only marginally significant, and there is only a small difference in the   L X: T X  relations, for the central regions we study with Chandra , between the radio-loud and radio-quiet objects in our sample, in contrast to the much larger difference found on scales of the whole group in earlier work. However, there is evidence, from splitting the sample based on the mass of the central black holes, that repeated outbursts of active galactic nuclei (AGN) activity may have a long-term cumulative effect on the entropy profiles. We argue that, to first order, energy injection from radio sources does not change the global structure of the gas in the cores of groups, although it can displace gas on a local level. In most systems, it appears that AGN energy injection serves primarily to counter the effects of radiative cooling, rather than being responsible for the similarity breaking between groups and clusters.  相似文献

Trajectories of test particles are studied numerically in two types of reconnection magnetic field configurations, a single X-line magnetic field configuration and a tearing magnetic field configuration. Both adiabatic and nonadiabatic motions are examined, with special emphasis on net energy gain and time spent in the neutral line regions. They spend typically one characteristic gyroperiod in the X-line region and are ejected predominantly along field lines in the vicinity of the separatrix. Both adiabatic and nonadiabatic test particles in the tearing-type field configuration are channelled into and accelerated along the O-line region. It may be inferred from these test particle results that particle energizations are significant along the O-line region, but not along the X-line region. These results are in qualitative agreement with those obtained by a self-consistent particle simulation.  相似文献

A filter composed of a crossed pair of doubly refracting crystals and a polaroid, mounted at the focal plane of the telescope, divides each star image into two images of constant intensity ratio. Autocorrelation analyses of K-coronameter observations made at Haleakala and Mauna Loa, Hawaii, during 1964–1967 have established average yearly rotation rates of coronal features as a function of latitude and height above the limb. At low latitudes the corona was found to rotate at the same rate as sunspots but at higher latitudes was consistently faster than the underlying photosphere. There were differences as large as 3–4% in the rate at specific latitudes from year to year and between the two hemispheres. In 1967 a nearly constant rotation was found for heights ranging from 1.125 to 2.0 R 0. For 1966 there was a more complicated pattern of height dependence, with the rate generally decreasing with height at low latitudes and increasing at high latitudes.At Hawaii Institute of Geophysics.  相似文献

A catalogue was compiled in the author's previous paper (Jones, 1969) of the relative brightness of 199 lunar features as observed at phase angles of 2°.1, 17°.5, 32°.5, 46°.2, 59°.4 and 72°.1 before full Moon, in the wavelength interval 5500 to 7000 Å. The present paper is concerned with an interpretation of this data in terms of the uniformity of the photometric function of the lunar surface. If due account is taken of the effect of second order scattering it is found that all the survey points studied scatter light according to the same photometric function independent of the type of terrain on which they are located.Now at the National Institute of Oceanography, Wormley, Surrey, England  相似文献

A statistical analysis is used to determine the properties of metre-wavelength events which are associated with interplanetary type II bursts. It is found that the likelihood of an interplanetary type II burst is greatly increased if: (a) an associated metre-wavelength type II has a starting frequency less than 45 MHz; (b) a strong metre-wavelength continuum is present; (c) the type II contains herringbone fine structure; and (d) the metre-wavelength activity is accompanied by strong, long-lasting H and soft X-ray events.Visiting scientist at Division of Radiophysics, January 1983; previous address - NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland.  相似文献

Band models for CO2 and H2O absorption are described, and used to model the Venera 11 spectra near 1 μm. An effective-path approximation is used to allow for scattering in the clouds. The model has 10 layers and uses 211 CO2 and 15 H2O vibrational transitions, at 5 cm? resolution. Within a factor of 2, a maximum absorption in the 0.94-μm H2O band just below the clouds, corresponding to 200 ppm by volume, in agreement with V. I. Moroz, N. A. Parfen'ev, and N. F. San'ko (1979, Cosmic Res. 17, 601–614) is found. More accurate band strenghts are needed to model the bottom scale height accurately. The possibility that the 0.94-μm feature is blended with a band of some other molecule has been examined. Ten possible chemical species were examined, with negative results.  相似文献

We present results from numerical simulations of the interaction of internal gravity waves (IGW) with a magnetic field. In accordance with the dispersion relation governing IGW in the presence of magnetism and rotation, when the IGW frequency is approximately that of the Alfvén frequency, strong reflection of the wave occurs. Such strong reflection markedly changes the angular momentum transport properties of the waves. In these simple models a strong, time-independent shear layer develops, in contrast to the oscillating shear layer that develops in the purely hydrodynamic case.  相似文献

The data compiled for 34 very young massive compact infrared source (Becklin-Neugebauer objects) in a separately published catalogue serve as the basis for an investigation of their general properties. First, the correlations of the strength of the ice and silicate bands at 3.1 μm and 10 μm, resp., with each other and with other parameters of the sources are investigated. In accordance with theoretical expectations the strengths of both bands are not well correlated with each other. The ratio τ103 of their optical depths veries from 0.85 to 8 (and possibly up to 22). That implies for the number densities of the grains that (naked) silicate grains always are considerably more abundant than ice grains (grains with ice mantles). It follows from the discussion of the relationships between τ10, the temperature parameter of the sources, and their luminosity that relations between τ10 and temperature and possibly between τ10 and the luminosity exist. Stellar wind models for the ionized region around the embedded star are favoured after the analysis of the intensities of the hydrogen infrred emission lines and the radio continuum. The limited observational data do not yet allow a decision on a correlation between the silicate band depth and energy content and/or the velocity of the bipolar outflow detected in a number of sources. The BN objects are clearly more frequently associated with H2O masers than OH masers. The linear separations of the infrared peaks from the masers are compatible with models where the H2O masers are situated near the edges the gas-dust shells of the BN objects.  相似文献
