We present multi-wavelength imagery of the merger remnant galaxy NGC 1316 with an objective to study the dust content and its association with the other phases of the interstellar medium. Color-index maps as well as extinction maps derived for this galaxy reveal an intricate and complex dust morphology in NGC 1316, i.e. there is a prominent lane in the inner part, while at about 6-7 kpc it apparently takes the form of an arc-like pattern extending along the northeast direction. In addition to this, several other dust clumps and knots are also evident in this galaxy. The dust emission mapped using Spitzer data at 8 μm indicates even more complex morphological structures of the dust in NGC 1316. The extinction curve derived over the optical to near-IR bands closely follows the standard Galactic curve, suggesting similar properties of the dust grains. The dust content of NGC 1316, estimated from optical extinction, is ~ 2.13 105M⊙ . This is a lower limit compared to that estimated using the IRAS flux densities of ~5.17×106M⊙ and the flux densities at 24, 70 and 160 μm from MIPS ~3.2×107M⊙ . High resolution Chandra observations of this merger remnant system have provided an unprecedented view of the complex nature exhibited by the distribution of hot gas in NGC 1316, which closely matches the morphology of ionized gas and to some extent also the dust. X-ray color-color plots for the resolved sources within the optical D 25 extent of NGC 1316 have enabled us to separate them into different classes.  相似文献

Evaluation of weather forecasting systems and assessment of existing verification procedures are essential to achieve desirable seamless rainfall prediction. Prediction of wet and dry spells is quite useful in agriculture and hydrology but very few attempts have been made so far to resolve the issue using numerical model output. Performance of five state-of-the-art global atmospheric general circulation models and their ensemble mean has been examined in predicting the parameters of wet and dry spells (WSs/DSs) during monsoon period of 2008–2011 over seven subzones of the Indian region. The number of WSs across the region is found to be underestimated, while total duration and rainfall amount of WSs (DSs) overestimated (underestimated). Start of the first WS is late and ends of the last WS early in the model forecast. More uncertainty is noticed in the prediction of DS rainfall and its duration than that of the WS. The percentage area of India under wet conditions (rainfall amount over each grid is more than its daily mean monsoon rainfall) and rainwater over the wet area is overestimated by about 59 and 32 %, respectively, in all models.  相似文献

Oxidation ditch process is used to treat the municipal and domestic sewage. The untreated sewage generates fouling smell, harmful bacteria, etc. which is hazardous for public health and degrades the environment by librating noxious gases. This paper examines the use of curved blade aerator for oxidation ditch process. The rotor, which controls the aeration, is the main component of the aeration process. Therefore, the objective of this study is to find out the variations in overall oxygen transfer coefficient and aeration efficiency for different configurations of aerators by varying the parameters like speed of aerator, depth of immersion and blade tip angles so as to yield higher values of overall oxygen transfer coefficient and aeration efficiency. Four aerators of different configuration were developed and fabricated in the laboratory and were tested for above mentioned parameters. A mathematical model is developed for predicting the values of kLa and aeration efficiency which has R2 values of 0.97 and 0.99 for experimentally determined and calculated values. In laboratory studies, the optimum value of overall oxygen transfer coefficient and aeration efficiency were observed to be 10.33/hand 2.269 kg O2/kWh for aerator speed of 48 rpm, 5.5 cm depth of immersion and 47° blade tip angle for curved blade aerator.  相似文献

A 1-D numerical model for the nocturnal boundary layer is developed which is capable of predicting inversion heights and strengths successfully. The model uses two distinct length scales for the dissipation of turbulent energy and for transfer of heat and momentum within the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL). The wind and potential temperature profiles obtained from the present model are compared with observations and the agreement is found to be good, viz., the RMSE for inversion height is found to be 71 m and that for inversion strength is found to be 2.0 °C.  相似文献

The Bundi-Indergarh sector in southeast Rajasthan is characterized by folded and faulted Vindhyan rocks that are exposed as NE-SW trending long parallel ridges. The sector is separated from older rocks by the Great Boundary Thrust and is traversed by younger cross faults at several localities. The thematic maps of geomorphology, slope, vegetation index and morphotectonic parameters of Bundi-Indergarh sector have been prepared using IRS ID L1SS III and WiFS and, Landsat ETM digital data. These theme are integrated in GIS environment to assess the neotectonic potential in the area. The neotectonic potential map of the sector has been generated that indicates relative potential values as high (55–85), medium (35–55) and low (5–35) on 100-point scale. The observed four high potential zones in the area are located at the intersection of NE-SW and NW-SE lineaments. The study brings out methodology for assessing active tectonic potential of the area.  相似文献

The results emerged out of the studies on spectral reflectance under normal and nitrogen and phosphorus stress condition in soybean (Glycine max L.) conducted at Marathwada Agricultural University experimental farm, Parbhani duringkharif 2004–05 showed that crop growth and bio-physiological parameters viz., Height, chlorophyll, leaf area index and total biomass influenced by pest and disease and nutrient stress resulted in detectable spectral reflectance variation. Poor crop growth, reduced canopy cover, chlorophyll content and biomass production are the effects observed in nutrient deficient crops. These above changes in soybean crop were related to spectral indices (RVI and NDVI) that are resulted in discrimination of stressed and normal (non-stressed) soybean crop.  相似文献

In exploring new sources for economically important products, marine environment draws particular attention because of its remarkable diversity and extreme conditions; it is known to produce metabolic products of great value. It represents untapped source for the discovery of novel secondary metabolites with varying potential such as antibiotic, anti-tumor, antifouling and cytotoxic properties. Marine actinomycetes distributed throughout the marine environment from shallow to deep sea sediments have proved to be a finest source for this discovery. Secondary metabolites derived from marine actinomycetes have proved their worth in industries based on the research on their properties and wide range applications. Spotlight of the review is range of marine based actinomycetes products and significant research in this field. This shows the capability of marine actinomycetes as bioactive metabolite producers. Additionally, the present review addresses some effective and novel approaches of procuring marine microbial compounds utilizing the latest screening strategies of drug discovery from which traditional resources such as marine actinobacteria has decreased due to declining yields. The aim is in the context of promoting fruitful and profitable results in the near future. The recent surfacing of new technologies for bioprospection of marine actinomycetes are very promising, resulting in high quality value added products, and will be de? ning a new era for bioactive compounds with medical and biotechnological applications.  相似文献
