--This work deals with computational modelling designed to understand the dynamical mechanism of low frequency monsoonal transients that results from nonlinear divergent-rotational (&gif1;) kinetic energy (KE) conversions due to the effects of Coriolis force, vorticity and divergence during the summer monsoon 1988 over the latitudinal belt 20°S-30°N at 850 hPa and 200 hPa. The results show two distinct spectral peaks spanning 30-45 days and 18-25 days in the energy conversions from the transient divergent motions to rotational motions. Due to the latitudinal variation of the earth's rotational effects, the conversion from the transient divergent to rotational motions, associated mainly with wavenumbers 1 and 2, tend to be more pronounced to the north of 15°N on the 30-45-day and 18-25-day time scales in the upper and lower tropospheres, respectively. The contribution of the stationary waves to maintenance of the low frequency rotational flow due to the effect of divergence through barotropic instability is significant at the upper troposphere. Divergent to rotational KE conversion by wave-wave interaction due to divergence is identified as an important mechanism for maintenance of low frequency oscillations in the lower troposphere. The upper tropospheric planetary scale divergent motions associated with 30-45-day oscillation gain substantial energy through nonlinear &gif1; interaction due to vorticity. 相似文献
Information on various agricultural resource parameters at various levels is essential for proper management and efficient
resource allocation for sustainable agricultural development. Limitations in ground-based method have encouraged the use of
satellite data coupled with geographical information system (GIS) in providing spatial as well as temporal information over
large and inaccessible areas. In the present study, an attempt has been made to generate raster maps using remote sensing
and GIS techniques to characterize the agroecosystem of South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal, based on land utilization
indices. Information on multi-season landcover derived from the analysis of the multi-temporal RADARSAT-1 SAR and IRS-ID LISS
III data as well as other ancillary information in GIS environment are the basic inputs used in the study. The present analysis
shows that northern and northwestern parts are more diverse in terms of agricultural intensification as compared to the southern
and northeastern parts whereas the central parts show moderate density. In terms of carrying capacity, the high carrying capacity
has been observed in the southern to northeastern parts whereas the northwestern and central parts show moderate and northern
parts show low carrying capacity. Overall, the characterization of agroecosystem using land utilization indices can be identified
as major input to formulate a management plan for sustainable agriculture with concerns for the environment. 相似文献
An axisymmetric lower bound limit analysis technique in combination with the finite elements has been used to investigate the effect of considering a non-associated flow rule on the stability number (γH/c) for a vertical circular unsupported excavation in a general cohesive–frictional soil medium, where (1) H is the excavation height, (2) γ defines the unit weight of the soil mass, and (3) c indicates the cohesion of the soil mass. The results are derived for different magnitudes of dilative coefficient (η), friction angle (?), and normalized excavation height (H/b), where b = the radius of the excavation. The results clearly indicate the increase in γH/c with an increase in η value. It is expected that the charts provided in this note will be quite helpful for the practicing engineers.
Bathymetry across the carbonate platform off western India indicated small-size pinnacles and their lateral coalescence into 2 -6-m high mounds landward, and linear elongated carbonate ridges and troughs, mounds and banks up to a height of 20-m seaward of the platform. Seismic data indicated that these mounds were transparent with no rigid internal structure and can be defined as bioherms. The sediments were abundantly aragonite faecal pellets, Halimeda grains and ooids and their radiocarbon ages ranged from 11 to 7.5 ka BP. It appears that the growth of Halimeda bioherms on the platform was facilitated by intense upwelling during the early Holocene. The terrigenous sediments brought by rivers were deposited in the inner shelf and have not affected the growth of bioherms. It is estimated that the platform comprises at least 1.85 Gt of mass CaCO\(_3\) accumulated during the early Holocene and comparable to those on the Great Barrier Reef. Halimeda bioherms produce abundant carbonate sediments and their growth period represents a geological carbonate sink and release of high CO\(_2\) to the atmosphere. Detailed shallow seismic studies and sediment cores are needed to quantify the exact mass content of CaCO\(_3\) and model climate change during the early Holocene. 相似文献
Petrographic thin section analysis of the samples collected from the type section of Neil West Coast Formation, situated in the west coast of Neil Island yielded moderately preserved coralline red algae, benthic and planktic foraminifers, coral fragments, echinoid spines and gastropod shells. The coralline red algae are represented by both non-geniculate and geniculate forms. The non-geniculate forms belong to melobesids, lithophylloids and mastophoroides. The geniculate forms are represented by species of Amphiroa, Corallina, and Jania. However, the diversity and abundance of coralline algal forms are less in comparison to the benthic foraminifers those are represented by Amphistegina, Neorotalia, Ammonia, Elphidium, Operculina, Assilina, Amphisorus and texularids. Planktic foraminifers like Globigerinoides and other biogenic components viz., gastropod shells, echinoid spines and coral fragments are also common. A foraminiferal-algal grainstone facies has been recognized as observed in the field as well as in thin section analysis. The overall assemblage of the biogenic components and facies analysis indicate intertidal to near shore environment of deposition with high energy condition and increased hydrodynamic activity. 相似文献
As part of a study on microbial redox alteration of humic substances we investigated the potential effect of this metabolism on the fate of heavy metals and hydrocarbons as a result of conformational alteration of the humic molecular structure due to microbial reduction. Our studies indicate that the microbial reduction of humic acids (HA) results in significant morphological and geochemical alterations. X‐ray microscopy analysis indicate that the conformational structure of the humic colloids is altered as a result of the redox change. In the reduced state, the HA appeared as small dense particles, on reoxidation, large loose aggregates were formed. In addition, spectrofluorometric studies indicated that the binding capacity of the HA for naphthalene was decreased by 10% when the HA was reduced. Similarly, the reduced HA yielded higher surface tension values at all concentrations tested which is indicative of a more hydrophilic and less hydrophobic solute. On reoxidation, the surface tension values reverted back to values similar to those obtained for the untreated oxidized HA. These data indicate that the hydrophobicity of the HA is altered on biological reduction of the HA and that this alteration is reversible. In contrast the reduced HA demonstrated a 15% higher affinity for heavy metals such as divalent cobalt than the oxidized HA. In addition to increasing the binding capacity of HA for heavy metals, the reduction of the HA also decreased the bioavailability and toxicity of bound heavy metals such as chromium. When incubated in the presence of Cr(III) and HA, cells of Escherichia coli grew much more rapidly in the presence of the reduced HA suggesting that the higher metal binding capacity of the reduced humic substances resulted in a removal of the Cr(III) from solution and hence reduced its bioavailability and toxicity. These studies demonstrate that HA redox state and reduction of humic acids by microorganisms can have a significant effect on the molecular morphology and binding constants of HA for heavy metals and hydrocarbons and also directly affects the bioavailability of these compounds in the environment. 相似文献

Vibration of buried pipelines induced by moving axial and radial loads has been studied in this paper. A thin shell model has been used for the pipeline, which is assumed to be lying in an infinite isotropic homogeneous elastic medium. In order to allow for the possible motion of the pipe out of phase with the surrounding ground a very thin layer of viscoelastic material is assumed to separate the pipe from the ground. Calculations indicate the presence of the interfacial viscoelastic layer does not influence the pipe response in a significant manner. So all the numerical results presented here are for the case when the pipe is assumed to be perfectly bonded. These show that the maximum pipewall displacements and stresses occur in a soft soil at long wavelengths. 相似文献
In this paper we discuss the particle trajectories in a uniform magnetic field superimposed on Kerr geometry. The rotation axis of the Kerr black hole makes an angle with the asymptotic magnetic field. We find that the particle is trapped for suitable initial conditions. 相似文献
In this paper we obtain similarity solutions for the propagation of plane relativistic shock waves in the presence of a transverse magnetic field for the medium, where the nucleon number density obeys a power law of distance from the plane of explosion. The shock surface moves with constant velocity and the total energy of the disturbance is dependent on time. The solutions are applicable only to an isothermal medium or a cold gas. 相似文献
