We present the results of a detailed analysis of multi-wavelength observations of a very impulsive solar flare 1B/M6.7, which occurred on 10 March, 2001 in NOAA AR 9368 (N27 W42). The observations show that the flare is very impulsive with a very hard spectrum in HXR that reveal that non-thermal emission was most dominant. On the other hand, this flare also produced a type II radio burst and coronal mass ejections (CME), which are not general characteristics for impulsive flares. In H we observed bright mass ejecta (BME) followed by dark mass ejecta (DME). Based on the consistency of the onset times and directions of BME and CME, we conclude that these two phenomena are closely associated. It is inferred that the energy build-up took place due to photospheric reconnection between emerging positive parasitic polarity and predominant negative polarity, which resulted as a consequence of flux cancellation. The shear increased to >80 due to further emergence of positive parasitic polarity causing strongly enhanced cancellation of flux. It appears that such enhanced magnetic flux cancellation in a strongly sheared region triggered the impulsive flare.  相似文献

The Oligocene coals from the northeastern part of the Assam-Arakan basin show a gradual decrease in the content of moisture, volatile matter and oxygen with corresponding increase in carbon content and calorific value from the Foreland Shelf to the deeper part of the geosyncline, reflecting the coalification trends in this basin. It has been suggested that the oxygen was replaced by organic sulphur, thereby lowering the oxygen content in the coals. The coals are perhydrous in nature with a high sulphur content. The high volatile content, perhydrous nature and high sulphur content in the Oligocene coals, as well as the presence of streaky facies and a very fine clastics unit, indicate that they were probably deposited in a marine-influenced deltaic and lagoonal environment.The plots of carbon versus hydrogen on Seyler's coal band follow a trend which differs from that of Seyler's band of Carboniferous bright coals. The coalification of the Oligocene coals represents the lignitic stage, in the case of the Foreland Shelf, and near subbituminous stage in the deeper geosynclinal part of the basin. A more intense, and probably sudden, dynamic process was involved in bringing about higher coalification in Oligocene coal of the geosynclinal facies than in Foreland Shelf area. This is possibly due to intense mountain-building forces acting from the southeastern direction of the basin.  相似文献

Equivalent dose (ED) estimates for speleothem calcite derived by ESR measurements of the g = 2.0005 signal have a typical precision of ±7% (minimum ±2%), and depend on the signal strength, radiation sensitivity and the presence of interfering signals. Underestimation of ED will occur if the crushing signal at g = 2.0001 is not removed by acid etching, while overestimation may be caused if the short-lived radiation induced interfering signal at g = 2.0020 is not removed by annealing. Quoted errors for ESR ages are rarely better than ±10% and are typically ±15% because of uncertainties in ED, calibration of dosimeters and gamma source, and in the a-value. Serial analyses along the growth axis of single speleothems, and between speleothems interbedded in a sequence demonstrate excellent stratigraphic concordance. Intercomparison of ESR and uranium series ages for samples derived from 11 geographically diverse sites show good agreement with no indication of systematic error. Although validation is more difficult for samples beyond the limit of dating, the results appear encouraging, but recrystallisation and changes in the external radiation dose may cause problems.  相似文献

This study addresses the effects of climate, land-use, and atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition on the Fallen Leaf Lake watershed, Lake Tahoe Basin, through diatom and geochemical analyses of sediment cores. Four diatom zones are recognized from a core taken at Fallen Leaf Lake (FLL), a site moderately impacted by human activities: (1) Pre-Little Ice Age Zone (840–1385), (2) Little Ice Age Zone (1385–1810) characterized by Stephanodiscus alpinus and Aulacoseira subarctica, (3) Transitional Zone (1810–1950) of warming and anthropogenic influence with increased Lindavia rossii-ocellata group and Discostella stelligera and decreased Pseudostaurosira brevistriata, and (4) Anthropogenic Zone (1950–2010) characterized by a rapid increase of mesotrophic diatoms of the Fragilaria tenera-nanana group, Tabellaria flocculosa strain IIIP, and Nitzschia gracilis. The Transitional Zone increases in elemental Co, Zn, and Sn that may be attributed to an increase in coal burning and smelting activities in California and Nevada. Beginning around 1910 and accelerating in the 1940s, increased building, land-use, and recreation around FLL caused an increase in terrestrial sedimentary input. Down core proxies for atmospheric N deposition in the FLL watershed are, at best, weakly expressed and appear to be overshadowed by stronger signals. Lack of support for N deposition includes the asynchrony in the appearance of the N-sensitive diatom Asterionella formosa in FLL and a lower impact site at Gilmore Lake, and an uninformative δ15N record. Asterionella formosa is a dominant component in the FLL water column today, but has been present in similar abundances for at least the last 1200 years. Asterionella formosa is present in the water column at Gilmore Lake and absent from the sediment, indicating a very recent appearance. The data collected show that the FLL record is sensitive to climatic cooling during the Little Ice Age and to anthropogenic activities commencing in the 1800s that increased throughout the latter half of the twentieth century; however the effects of anthropogenic N deposition in these lakes could not be substantiated.  相似文献

There is no meta‐heuristic approach best suited for solving all optimization problems making this field of study highly active. This results in enhancing current approaches and proposing new meta‐heuristic algorithms. Out of all meta‐heuristic algorithms, swarm intelligence is preferred as it can preserve information about the search space over the course of iterations and usually has fewer tuning parameters. Grey Wolves, considered as apex predators, motivated us to simulate Grey Wolves in the optimization of geophysical data sets. The grey wolf optimizer is a swarm‐based meta‐heuristic algorithm, inspired by mimicking the social leadership hierarchy and hunting behaviour of Grey Wolves. The leadership hierarchy is simulated by alpha, beta, delta and omega types of wolves. The three main phases of hunting, that is searching, encircling and attacking prey, is implemented to perform the optimization. To evaluate the efficacy of the grey wolf optimizer, we performed inversion on the total gradient of magnetic, gravity and self‐potential anomalies. The results have been compared with the particle swarm optimization technique. Global minimum for all the examples from grey wolf optimizer was obtained with seven wolves in a pack and 2000 iterations. Inversion was initially performed on thin dykes for noise‐free and noise‐corrupted (up to 20% random noise) synthetic data sets. The inversion on a single thin dyke was performed with a different search space. The results demonstrate that, compared with particle swarm optimization, the grey wolf optimizer is less sensitive to search space variations. Inversion of noise‐corrupted data shows that grey wolf optimizer has a better capability in handling noisy data as compared to particle swarm optimization. Practical applicability of the grey wolf optimizer has been demonstrated by adopting four profiles (i.e. surface magnetic, airborne magnetic, gravity and self‐potential) from the published literature. The grey wolf optimizer results show better data fit than the particle swarm optimizer results and match well with borehole data.  相似文献

Motivated by the scientific desire to align observations with quantities of physical interest, we survey how scalar importance functions depend on vertically resolved water vapor. Definitions of importance begin from familiar examples of water mass I m and TOA clear-sky outgoing longwave flux I OLR, in order to establish notation and illustrate graphically how the sensitivity profile or “kernel” depends on whether specific humidity S, relative humidity R, or ln(R) are used as measures of vapor. Then, new results on the sensitivity of convective activity I con to vapor (with implied knock-on effects such as weather prediction skill) are presented. In radiative-convective equilibrium, organized (line-like) convection is much more sensitive to moisture than scattered isotropic convection, but it exists in a drier mean state. The lesson for natural convection may be that organized convection is less susceptible to dryness and can survive and propagate into regions unfavorable for disorganized convection. This counterintuitive interpretive conclusion, with respect to the narrow numerical result behind it, highlights the importance of clarity about what is held constant at what values in sensitivity or susceptibility kernels. Finally, the sensitivities of observable radiance signals I sig for passive remote sensing are considered. While the accuracy of R in the lower free troposphere is crucial for the physical importance scalars, this layer is unfortunately the most difficult to isolate with passive remote sensing: In high emissivity channels, water vapor signals come from too high in the atmosphere (for satellites) or too low (for surface radiometers), while low emissivity channels have poor altitude discrimination and (in the case of satellites) are contaminated by surface emissions. For these reasons, active ranging (LiDAR) is the preferred observing strategy.  相似文献

Ethylene oxide (\(c\)-C2H4O) and its isomer acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) are important organic molecules because of their potential role in the formation of amino acids. The \(c\)-C2H4O molecule is a \(b\)-type asymmetric top molecule and owing to half-spin of each of the four hydrogen atoms, it has two distinct ortho (nuclear spin one) and para (nuclear spin zero and two) species. It has been detected in the Sgr B2N. Using the rotational and centrifugal distortion constants along with the electric dipole moment, we have calculated energies of 100 rotational levels of each of the ortho and para species of \(c\)-C2H4O molecule and the Einstein \(A\)-coefficients for radiative transitions between the levels. The values of Einstein \(A\)-coefficients along with the scaled values for the collisional rate coefficients are used for solving a set of statistical equilibrium equations coupled with the equations of radiative transfer.Brightness-temperatures of five rotational transitions of each of the ortho and para species of \(c\)-C2H4O molecule are investigated. Out of these ten transitions, three transitions are found to show the anomalous absorption and rest seven are found to show the emission feature. We have also investigated seven transitions observed unblended in the Sgr B2(N). We have found that the transitions \(3_{3 0} - 3_{2 1}\) (23.134 GHz), \(2_{2 0} - 2_{1 1}\) (15.603 GHz), \(3_{3 1} - 3_{2 2}\) (39.680 GHz) and \(1_{1 1} - 0_{0 0}\) (39.582 GHz) may play important role for the identification of ethylene oxide in a cosmic object.  相似文献

A fundamental procedure is proposed for the identification of liquefaction in saturated soils based on the instability in the material's microstructure. The disturbed state concept (DSC) provides a unified constitutive model for the characterization of entire stress–strain behaviour under cyclic loading, and the values of disturbance at threshold states in the deforming microstructure provides the basis for the identification of liquefaction. The procedure is verified with respect to laboratory behaviour of two sands, saturated Ottawa and Reid Bedford. A mathematical analysis of the DSC constitutive matrix is also performed. Procedures for the application of the DSC for simplified analysis and design, and in finite element procedures are presented. It is believed that the proposed model can provide a fundamental yet simplified procedure for liquefaction analysis, and as a result, it is considered to be an improvement over the available empirical and energy-based procedures. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
