The caves of the Umbria and Marche regions in central Italy are made up of three-dimensional maze systems that display different general morphologies due to the various geological and structural contexts. At the same time, the internal morphologies of the passages, galleries, and shafts present some similarity, with solutional galleries characterized by cupolas and blind pits, anastamotic passages, roof pendants, and phreatic passages situated at different levels. Some of these caves are still active, as is the case for Frassassi Gorge, Parrano Gorge, and Acquasanta Terme, with galleries that reach the phreatic zone, where there is a rising of highly mineralized water, rich in hydrosulfydric acid, and with erosion of limestone walls and the formation of gypsum. Elsewhere there are fossil caves, such as Monte Cucco and Pozzi della Piana, where large speleothems of gypsum are present 500 m or more above the regional water table. In all of these important karst systems it is possible to recognize basal input points through fracture and intergranular porosity networks at the base of the oxidizing zone in the core of the anticline, where mineralized water rises up from the Triassic evaporitic layers in small hydrogeological circuits. Different underground morphologies can derive from the presence of a water table related to an external stream or from the confined setting of the carbonate rocks, underlying low permeable sedimentary cover, where artesian conditions can occur.  相似文献

Abstarct The article recognizes two border effects on average size of households: the past and the present one.Both the incidence and the long-standing tradition of the multifamily and multigenerational households in the past time have been attributed to the influence of Turkish and Austrian state regulations in the period when the area was a part of the Military Border.An attempt is made to estimate the share of vital and spatial mobility factors. In the contemporary process of household dissolution the impact of vital mobility decreases and the impact of spatial mobility increases going from the center towards the periphery.An earlier version of this paper was presented at the Regional Conference of the International Geographical Union, held in Prague in 1994.  相似文献

The lead isotope composition of 32 lead glasses excavated from strata of the twelfth to early fifteenth century in six countries of NW Europe made the predominance of the Harz Mountains in this period of the Medieval European lead and silver production highly probable. Post-Variscan vein type galena, Devonian syngenetic hydrothermal ore (Rammelsberg) and blended ore from both deposits in the Harz were used. Our evaluation of 200 mining sites in Germany, Britain and Ireland also demonstrated that minor lead sources for lead glass were located in Bavaria/Bohemia and England. Lead ores from the Rhenohercynian orogenic belt in Germany are derived from rock sources close to the upper continental crust composition in 238U/204Pb of about 10 and Th/U of about 4. Geochemical processes, occurring in a stable transition zone between saltwater and freshwater, were simulated in a 2D, multi-layer flow chamber experiment. Mixing, calcite dissolution, and oxidative degradation of organic matter were identified as the main controlling factors. The results of the chamber experiment were compared to field data and verified by thermodynamic modeling. Similarity in most ion distributions suggests the general applicability of the experimental method. Differences in the redox conditions between field and experiment were reflected by the oxidants involved in the mineralization of organic carbon; while field data show evidence of sulfate reduction, the presence of oxygen in the laboratory experiment resulted in the reoxidation of sulfides.  相似文献

Lamprophyric lavas in the Colima graben,SW Mexico   总被引:2,自引:3,他引:2  
The Colima graben, located in SW Mexico, is one of three grabens which intersect about 50 km SSW of Guadalajara, forming a triple junction. The 90 km long, 20–60 km wide Colima graben represents a N-S rift of the E-W trending Mexican Volcanic Belt. Since the Early Pliocene, the Colima graben has served as a locus for the eruption of alkaline lavas, the most recent of which are basanites and minettes erupted from Late Pleistocene cinder cones (Luhr and Carmichael 1981). In this paper, we report on older alkaline lavas which crop out in the graben's walls. These rocks include phlogopite- and hornblende-bearing lamprophyres, a phlogopite-kalsilite-ankaratrite, and high-K andesites. These lavas crop out throughout the Colima graben area, and are intimately associated with calc-alkaline lavas in the field. Compared to these, the alkaline rocks are strikingly enriched in the incompatible elements, particularly Ba, Sr, P, and the LREE. Unlike the younger Late Pleistocene alkaline cinder cone lavas, most of the graben wall lamprophyres and the high-K andesites represent magmas that appear to have undergone significant evolution since their generation, including fractionation, crustal contamination, and possible magma mixing. Least-squares modeling indicates that the cinder cone minettes represent reasonable parental magmas for the graben lamprophyres. The occurrence of these alkaline lavas in an active calc-alkaline volcanic arc is unusual, and we suggest that they are a manifestation of the rifting processes which produced the Colima graben.  相似文献

Although europium speciation in silicate melts partly reflects prevailing oxygen fugacities, melt composition and structure play the major role in determining Eu2+/ Eu3+ ratios and europium partitioning into mineral phases. Experimental evidence by different investigators on the magnitude of the compositional effect on Eu2+/Eu3+ provides consistent results only if account is taken of the oxygen buffer system employed in the experiments. The medium-dependent reduction of europium can be understood in terms of the preferential stabilization of Eu2+ by a strong aluminosilicate complex in the melt phase, and to a much lesser degree by metasilicate complexes. The stability of these complexes increases as the field strength of the associated cation species decreases. Hence Eu2+-aluminosilicate complexes are preferentially stabilized relative to trivalent lanthanides in melts of appropriate composition and their presence minimizes the enthalpy of the melt. The influence of these complexes is particularly pronounced in melts with a high feldspathic component and a strongly polymerized structure. Their petrogenetic influence is best documented through the behaviour of europium relative to the other lanthanides during anhydrous anatexis in high-grade metamorphic terrains and in the anomalous europium partition coefficients of phenocryst phases which formed during the crystallization of highly silicic magmas.  相似文献

Lower Palaeozoic successions in the Southern Uplands are much thicker than previously supposed and sedimentation may have lasted well into Ludlow times. Volcanic rocks are Arenig and Glenkiln in age and are often interbedded with greywackes and shales. Lapworth's concept of the structure as an anticlinorium and a synclinorium is rejected and it is suggested that the rocks have been folded into a series of compound monoclines which face north-westwards. These are probably cut by strike faults which bring up the older beds to the north.

Vulkanite haben Arenig- und Glenkiln-Alter; sie wechsellagern oft mit Grauwacken und Tonschiefern.Lapworths Vorstellung, der tektonische Bau sei ein Antiklinorium und ein Synklinorium, wird bestritten. Es wird angenommen, daß die Gesteine zu zusammengesetzten Monoklinen gefaltet wurden, deren steile Flügel nordwestwärts weisen. Sie werden wahrscheinlich durch streichende Verwerfungen zerschnitten, die die älteren Schichten im Norden herausheben.

The study area is located in the north of the Hoggar Basement. It is bounded to the east by the Idjerane-Azaz north-south-trending structural system, the Azzel-Matti Ridge to the south and to the north by the Timimoun Basin. Distribution of the structural elements and the determination of deviatoric stress tensors indicate two main directions for major stress (σ1), one striking northeast-southwest and the other west-northwest-east-southeast. Structural evolution during the Hercynian Orogeny can be considered as a continuous strain rather than as two contrasting tectonic events. The structural features can be attributed to the association of wrench faulting and thrusting, which is compatible with a strain regime of combined pure and simple shear. The basement fabric features exerted a very strong control on the structural evolution during the Hercynian deformation.  相似文献
