In this work, we analyze the records of the Italian strong motion database (ITACA, ) with the aim of identifying stations affected by site effects that are not captured by standard seismic classification schemes. In particular, we consider four different site classifications, two of them based on geological/geophysical characteristics and two driven by data. For each classification we develop a ground motion prediction equation using a random effect approach to isolate the between-station and within-station distribution of errors. The site coefficients obtained for the different classes confirm that site amplification effects are significant for both the horizontal and vertical components. The between-station error normalized to the standard deviation of the between-station error distribution is then used to identify stations characterized by large errors, attributable to site effects not accounted for by the classification schemes. The results show that large errors can affect the predictions when the site effects are not uniquely related to the reduction of the seismic impedance in the uppermost layers. For example, amplifications of ground motion over the long period range are observed for stations installed within alluvial closed-shape basins, as consequence of locally generated surface waves. For these stations, classifications based on the horizontal to vertical response spectra ratio are not reliable, since amplifications are also affecting the vertical component. Another interesting feature which emerges from the analysis is the significant de-amplification of short period spectral ordinates that seems to be related to stations typically set in at the foundation level of massive structures. To increase the usefulness of the data set, the most important distinctive features of the strong motion stations are documented in the ITACA database reports containing the instrument information and the available geological-geotechnical data.  相似文献

Measurements of total peroxy radicals (HO2?+?RO2) and nitrate radical (NO3) were made on the NOAA research vessel R/V?Brown along the U.S. Gulf Coast during the TexAQS 2006 field campaign. The measurements were modelled using a constrained box-model based upon the Master Chemical Mechanism (MCM). The agreement between modelled and measured HO2?+?RO2 was typically within ??40% and, in the unpolluted regions, within 30%. The analysis of the model results suggests that the MCM might underestimate the concentrations of some acyl peroxy radicals and other small peroxy radicals. The model underestimated the measurements of NO3 by 60?C70%, possibly because of rapid heterogeneous uptake of N2O5. The MCM model results were used to estimate the composition of the peroxy radical pool and to quantify the role of DMS, isoprene and alkenes in the formation of RO2 in the different regions. The measurements of HO2?+?RO2 and NO3 were also used to calculate the gas-phase budget of NO3 and quantify the importance of organic peroxy radicals as NO3 sinks. RO2 accounted, on average, for 12?C28% of the total gas-phase NO3 losses in the unpolluted regions and for 1?C2% of the total gas-phase NO3 losses in the polluted regions.  相似文献

Sorption interactions with montmorillonite and other clay minerals in soils, sediments, and rocks are potentially important mechanisms for attenuating the mobility of U(6+) and other radionuclides through the subsurface environment. The study focused on U(6+) surface complexation on hydroxylated edge sites as the sorption mechanism of interest because it is expected to be the predominant sorption mechanism at pHs typical of natural waters (pH ≈6 to ≈9). Thus, the experiments were conducted with a 0.1 M NaNO3 matrix to suppress ion-exchange between U(6+) in solution and interlayer cations. The results show that U(6+) sorption on montmorillonite is a strong function of pH, reaching a maximum at near-neutral pH (≈6 to ≈6.5) and decreasing sharply towards more acidic or more alkaline conditions. A comparison of the pH-dependence of U(6+) sorption with that of U(6+) aqueous speciation indicates a close correspondence between U(6+) sorption and the predominance field of U(6+)-hydroxy complexes. At high pH, sorption is inhibited due to formation of aqueous U(6+)-carbonate complexes. At low pH, the low sorption values indicate that the 0.1 M NaNO3 matrix was effective in suppressing ion-exchange between the uranyl (UO2 2+) species and interlayer cations in montmorillonite. At pH and carbonate concentrations typical of natural waters, sorption of U(6+) on montmorillonite can vary by four orders of magnitude and can become negligible at high pH. The experimental results were used to develop a thermodynamic model based on a surface complexation approach to permit predictions of U(6+) sorption at differing physicochemical conditions. A Diffuse-Layer model (DLM) assuming aluminol (>AlOH?) and silanol (>SiOH?) edge sites and two U(6+) surface complexation reactions per site effectively simulates the complex sorption behavior observed in the U(6+)-H2O-CO2-montmorillonite system at an ionic strength of 0.1 M and pH > 3.5. A comparison of model predictions with data from this study and from published literature shows good agreement and suggests that surface complexation models based on parameters derived from a limited set of data could be useful in extrapolating radionuclide sorption over a range of geochemical conditions. Such an approach could be used to support transport modeling by providing a better alternative to the use of constant K d s in transport calculations.  相似文献

This work discusses the synsedimentary structural control affecting the turbidites of the Marnoso-arenacea Formation (MAF) deposited in an elongate, NW-stretched foredeep basin formed in front of the growing Northern Apennines orogenic wedge. The stratigraphic succession of the MAF (about 4000 m thick) records the progressive closure of the Apennine foredeep basin due to the NE propagation of thrust fronts. In this setting, Langhian to Serravallian turbidites are overlain by Tortonian mixed turbidite deposits, i.e. sandstone-rich low-efficiency turbidites. The high-resolution stratigraphic framework of basin-plain turbidites has made it possible to identify five informal stratigraphic units (I, II, III, IV, V) mainly on the basis of the structural control highlighted by: 1) the presence of topographic highs and relative depocentres detected through a progressive flattening approach, and 2) the presence of thrust-related mass-transport complexes and the progressive appearance and disappearance of five bed types (Types 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) considered important to understand the interaction between flow efficiency and basin morphology. By contrast, the upper part of the MAF succession (Tortonian in age) is formed by more sandstone-rich systems characterized by beds whose origin is likely to depend, at least in part, upon flow decelerations related to topographic confinement due to the progressive closure of the foredeep. The vertical and lateral distribution of these types of beds is, therefore, useful for the reconstruction of the morphological evolution of structurally controlled basins; in the MAF example, this is mainly due to the progressive narrowing of the foredeep caused by the propagation of the main thrust fronts toward the foreland.  相似文献

A methodology is proposed for the inference, at the regional and local scales, of flood magnitude and associated probability. Once properly set-up, this methodology is able to provide flood frequencies distributions at gauged and un-gauged river sections pertaining to the same homogeneous region, using information extracted from rainfall observations. A proper flood frequency distribution can be therefore predicted even in un-gauged watersheds, for which no discharge time series is available.  相似文献

The behaviour of the EPP-SDOF model under seismic actions is analysed herein by different ‘damage functionals’ to define collapse under cyclic loading. In particular, the damage functionals based on the concept of maximum ductility and dissipated plastic energy are first compared. Afterwards the methods of Banon and Veneziano, Park and Ang and the linear cumulative law of plastic fatigue are reviewed and extensively analysed. Comparisons in the case of simple cyclic histories and in terms of acceleration collapse spectra are carried out with reference to significant earthquake records. In particular, it is shown in which cases the damage functionals of Banon and Veneziano, Park and Ang and the linear cumulative law of plastic fatigue, completely defined by the value of a single parameter, degenerate in the limit methods of ductility or dissipated energy and in which cases they provide similar results.  相似文献

In this study, three kinds of pier arrangements were tested. They are (i) two piers in tandem, (ii) two piers in staggered arrangement, and (iii) three piers in symmetrically staggered arrangements. In the arrangement of two piers in tandem, the equilibrium scour depth at downstream pier decreases with an increase in downstream distance up to approximately eight times pier diameter and then increases with further increase in downstream distance. However, the scour depth at downstream pier is always smaller than that at upstream pier. In the arrangement of two staggered piers, the scour depth at the downstream pier for L/b = 4, where L is the offset distance and b is the pier diameter, is the same as that of the upstream pier at S = 8b, where S is the streamwise spacing or distance between piers. Further, for three piers in staggered arrangement, as the lateral spacing between downstream piers increases, the equilibrium scour depth at downstream pier decreases.  相似文献
