Absorption against the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), called the anomalous absorption, is an unusual phenomenon. The transition 111–110 at 4.829 GHz of formaldehyde (H2CO) was the first one showing the anomalous absorption. The c-C3H2 is the second molecule showing anomalous absorption through its transition 220–211 at 21.590 GHz. Structure of thioformaldehyde (H2CS) is very similar to that of the H2CO. Therefore, we have investigated about the physical conditions under which the transition 111– 110 at 1.0465 GHz of H2CS would be found in anomalous absorption in cool cosmic objects. As in case of H2CO, the anomalous absorption of 111–110 of H2CS is found sensitive to the relative collisional rates and it requires that the collisional rate for the transition 111–211 must be smaller than that for the transition 110–212. 相似文献

Soils in similar geomorphic settings in hyperarid deserts (< 50 mm yr−1) should have similar characteristics because a negative moisture balance controls their development. However, Reg soils in the hyperarid southern Negev and Namib deserts are distinctly different. Soils developed on stable alluvial surfaces with only direct input of rainfall and dust depend heavily on rainfall characteristics. Annual rainfall amount can be similar (15-30 mm), but storm duration can drastically alter Reg soil properties in deserts. The cooler fall/winter and dry hot summers of the southern Negev Desert with a predominance brief (≤ 1 day) rainstorms result in gypsic-saline soils without any calcic soil horizon. Although the Namib Desert receives only 50-60% of the southern Negev annual rainfall, its rainstorm duration is commonly 2-4 days. This improves leaching of the top soil under even lower annual rainfall amount and results in weeks-long grass cover. The long-term cumulative effect of these rare rain-grass relationships produces a calcic-gypsic-saline soil. The development of these different kinds of desert soils highlights the importance of daily to seasonal rainfall characteristics in influencing soil-moisture regime in deserts, and has important implications for the use of key desert soil properties as proxies in paleoclimatology. 相似文献

In this study, an attempt has been made to estimate land surface temperatures (LST) and spectral emissivities over a hard
rock terrain using multi-sensor satellite data. The study area, of about 6000 km2, is a part of Singhbhum-Orissa craton situated in the eastern part of India. TIR data from ASTER, MODIS and Landsat ETM+
have been used in the present study. Telatemp Model AG-42D Portable Infrared Thermometer was used for ground measurements
to validate the results derived from satellite (MODIS/ASTER) data. LSTs derived using Landsat ETM+ data of two different dates
have been compared with the satellite data (ASTER and MODIS) of those two dates. Various techniques, viz., temperature and
emissivity separation (TES) algorithm, gray body adjustment approach in TES algorithm, Split-Window algorithms and Single
Channel algorithm along with NDVI based emissivity approach have been used. LSTs derived from bands 31 and 32 of MODIS data
using Split-Window algorithms with higher viewing angle (50°) (LST1 and LST2) are found to have closer agreement with ground
temperature measurements (ground LST) over waterbody, Dalma forest and Simlipal forest, than that derived from ASTER data
(TES with AST 13). However, over agriculture land, there is some uncertainty and difference between the measured and the estimated
LSTs for both validation dates for all the derived LSTs. LST obtained using Single Channel algorithm with NDVI based emissivity
method in channel 13 of ASTER data has yielded closer agreement with ground measurements recorded over vegetation and mixed
lands of low spectral contrast. LST results obtained with TIR band 6 of Landsat ETM+ using Single Channel algorithm show close
agreement over Dalma forest, Simlipal forest and waterbody with LSTs obtained using MODIS and ASTER data for a different date.
Comparison of LSTs shows good agreement with ground measurements in thermally homogeneous area. However, results in agriculture
area with less homogeneity show difference of LST up to 2°C. The results of the present study indicate that continuous monitoring
of LST and emissivity can be undertaken with the aid of multi-sensor satellite data over a thermally homogeneous region. 相似文献

The Purulia carbonatite, ‘carbonatite’-‘alkali-pyroxenite’-‘apatite-magnetite rock’ association, is located at Beldih area of Purulia district, West Bengal and falls within the 100 km long Northern Shear Zone (NSZ). Published literature suggests that the Purulia carbonatite was formed by the process of liquid immiscibility from under-saturated silicate parent magma. However, no silica under-saturated rocks like ijolite, nepheline-syenite etc. is known from the area. The trace element geochemistry (Ba/La, Nb/Th, Nb/Pb and Y/Ce ratios in the present study) also does not support this view. Present study indicates that the Purulia carbonatite is enriched in ΣREE and incompatible elements but the carbonatite is also poorer in Nb, Th and Pb compared to the world average of calicocarbonatites. The lower value of Nb is characteristics of carbo(hydro)thermal carbonatite where carbonatite is associated with alkali-pyroxenite and suggests probable origin of the carbonatite as carbothermal residua evolved from an unknown parentage. However, the field, petrographic and geochemical data indicate the genesis of this carbonatite from a primary carbonatitic magma of mantle decent. The 87Sr/86Sr ratio of the carbonatite and apatite separated from the carbonatite (~0.703) implies primary magmatic derivation of the Purulia carbonatite. Close similarity of the apatite of the apatite-magnetite rock with the mantle apatite (of type Apatite B) indicates that they are also of primary magmatic origin. The present work portrays a unique example where primary magmatic carbonatite is associated with the alkali-pyroxenite. 相似文献

One of the most important aspects of designing a structure on or in a rock mass is based on the strength response of a jointed
rock mass. Understanding this important aspect, the present study was undertaken to understand the strength response of a
jointed rock mass with the help of a finite difference package FLAC3D. In the present work, an attempt has been made to understand the effect of discontinuity angle on the failure mode and strength
of the rock mass. For this purpose, stress and displacement in the model were studied and various stress–strain histories
were recorded at constant strain loading rate. Rock discontinuity plays a critical and vital role to understand physico-mechanical
characteristics of a rock mass. It has wider application in the rock excavation engineering, e.g., caverns, tunnels, slope
stability, dams, etc. Simulated rock results are compared with the analytically calculated results of the jointed rock mass

We suggest that planets, brown dwarfs, and even low mass stars can be formed by fragmentation of protoplanetary disks around very massive stars (M ? 100 M⊙). We discuss how fragmentation conditions make the formation of very massive planetary systems around very massive stars favorable. Such planetary systems are likely to be composed of brown dwarfs and low mass stars of ~0.1–0.3 M⊙, at orbital separations of ~ few × 100–104 AU. In particular, scaling from solar-like stars suggests that hundreds of Mercury-like planets might orbit very massive stars at ~103 AU where conditions might favor liquid water. Such fragmentation objects can be excellent targets for the James Webb Space Telescope and other large telescopes working in the IR bands. We predict that deep observations of very massive stars would reveal these fragmentation objects, orbiting in the same orbital plane in cases where there are more than one object. 相似文献

The Kachchh region of Gujarat, India bore the brunt of a disastrous earthquake of magnitude Mw = 7.6 that occurred on January 26, 2001. The major cause of failure of various structures including earthen dams was noted to be the presence of liquefiable alluvium in the foundation soil. Results of back-analysis of failures of Chang, Tappar, Kaswati and Rudramata earth dams using pseudo-static limit equilibrium approach presented in this paper confirm that the presence of liquefiable layer contributed to lesser factors of safety leading to a base type of failure that was also observed in the field. Following the earthquake, earth dams have been rehabilitated by the concerned authority and it is imperative that the reconstructed sections of earth dams be reanalyzed. It is also increasingly realized that risk assessment of dams in view of the large-scale investment made and probabilistic analysis is necessary. In this study, it is demonstrated that the probabilistic approach when used in conjunction with deterministic approach helps in providing a rational solution for quantification of safety of the dam and in the estimation of risk associated with the dam construction. 相似文献

Geospatial ontology development and semantic knowledge discovery addresses the need for modeling, analyzing and visualizing multimodal information, and is unique in offering integrated analytics that encompasses spatial, temporal and thematic dimensions of information and knowledge. The comprehensive ability to provide integrated analysis from multiple forms of information and use of explicit knowledge make this approach unique. This also involves specification of spatiotemporal thematic ontologies and populating such ontologies with high quality knowledge. Such ontologies form the basis for defining the meaning of important relations terms, such as near or surrounded by, and enable computation of spatiotemporal thematic proximity measures we define. SWETO (Semantic Web Technology Evaluation Ontology) and geospatial extension SWETO‐GS are examples of these ontologies. The Geospatial Semantics Analytics (GSA) framework incorporates: (1) the ability to automatically and semi‐automatically tract metadata from syntactically (including unstructured, semi‐structured and structured data) and semantically heterogeneous and multimodal data from diverse sources; and (2) analytical processing that exploits these ontologies and associated knowledge bases, with integral support for what we term spatiotemporal thematic proximity (STTP) reasoning and interactive visualization capabilities. The source of the Assam earthquake of Aug. 15, 1950 is revealed from amplitude observations of surface and body waves at Pasadena, Tokyo and Bergen. Seiches' amplitudes in Norway, initial P motions throughout the world, aftershocks and landslides distribution, PP/P ratio at Tokyo, R/L ratio and directivity at Pasadena, are also used. The ensuing fault geometry and kinematics is consistent with the phenomenology of the event and the known geology of the source area. It is found that a progressive strike-slip rupture with velocity 3 km/sec took place on a fault of length 250 km and width 80 km striking 330–337° east of north and dipping 55–60° to ENE. The use of exact surface-wave theory and asymptotic body-wave theory which takes into account finiteness and absorption, rendered an average shear dislocation of 35 m. A three-dimensional theory for the excitation of seiches in lakes by the horizontal acceleration of surface waves was developed. It is confirmed that Love waves near Bergen generated seiches with peak amplitude up to 70 cm depending strongly on the width of the channel.It is believed that the earthquake was caused by a motion of the Asian plate relative to the eastern flank of the Indian plate where the NE Assam block is imparted a tendency of rotation with fracture lines being developed along its periphery.Comparison with other well-studied earthquakes shows that although the magnitude of the Assam event superseded that of all earthquakes since 1950, its potency U0dS (700,000 m × km2) was inferior to that of Alaska 1964 (1,560,000 m × km2) and Chile 1960 (1,020,000 m × km2). 相似文献
