Absolute tip–tilt recovery using a tilt signal measured on a Laser Guide Star is a central problem in the framework of the development of Adaptive Optics Systems reaching full sky coverage down to visible wavelengths. In the past few years, various techniques aimed at solving this problemhave been proposed. However only a couple of these has been recentlytested in practice. We report about an experiment aimed at evaluating the performance of one of these techniques called the Elongation Perspective technique. Our experiment has been performed using the ALFA system inCalar-Alto (Spain) and involves the simultaneous operation of the 3.6 m and the 2.2 m telescopes at the Observatory. This article describes the telescope configuration used, as well as the datareduction process carried out in order to estimate the scientific objecttilt. The technique performances are discussed in terms of the residualtilt error variance and related correlation coefficient. The analysisshows that, despite the low SNR of our measurements, the atmospheric tiltvariance is reduced to 80% of its initial value corresponding to acorrelation coefficient of about 0.6. To get a betterestimate of the performance achievable using this technique, the tilt error variance due to photon noise in the laser measurementis estimated and removed from the obtained tilt error variance. When this correction is done, thisvariance is reduced to about 50% of its initial value, showingthat the use of this technique can give rise to a significant reduction of the scientific object image motion. 相似文献

Many astronomical objects emit polarised light, which can give information both about their source mechanisms, and about (scattering) geometry in their source regions. To date (mostly) only the linearly polarised components of the emission have been observed in stellar sources. Observations have been constrained because of instrumental considerations to periods of excellent observing conditions, and to steady, slowly or periodically-varying sources. This leaves a whole range of interesting objects beyond the range of observation at present. The Galway Astronomical Stokes Polarimeter (GASP) has been developed to enable us to make observations on these very sources. GASP measures the four components of the Stokes Vector simultaneously over a broad wavelength range 400–800 nm., with a time resolution of order microseconds given suitable detectors and a bright source - this is possible because the optical design contains no moving or modulating components. The initial design of GASP is presented and we include some preliminary observational results demonstrating that components of the Stokes vector can be measured to $<1$ % in conditions of poor atmospheric stability. Issues of efficiency and stability are addressed. An analysis of suitable astronomical targets, demanding the unique properties of GASP, is also presented. 相似文献

The nature of Al–Si ordering across the tetrahedral sites in muscovite, K2Al4(Si6Al2O20)(OH)4, was investigated using various computational techniques. Values of the atomic exchange interaction parameters J
l
were obtained. From these parameters, a two-dimensional Al–Si ordering scheme was deduced. The transition temperature T
c for this two-dimensional ordering is 1900 K. There are several possible ordering schemes in three dimensions, based on different
stacking sequences of ordered sheets of tetrahedral sites. Monte Carlo simulations of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional
ordering were performed, but in the three-dimensional simulation only the two-dimensional ordering is seen, implying that
three-dimensional ordering is too slow to be attained during the timescale of the simulation. The effect of the three-dimensional
interactions is to raise the two-dimensional ordering temperature to 2140 K. From the three-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation,
the frequency of occurrence of 4Si0Al, 3Si1Al, 2Si2Al and 1Si3Al clusters was determined, which match those inferred by 29Si MAS–NMR measurements reasonably well. In fact, the match suggests that the cation ordering seen in experiments corresponds
to a configuration with considerable short-range order but no long-range order, similar to a state that is at a temperature
just above an ordering phase transition.

Constraining the burial history of a sedimentary basin is crucial for accurate prediction of hydrocarbon generation and migration. Although the Ghadames Basin is a prolific hydrocarbon province, with recoverable oil discovered to date in excess of 3.5 billion bbl, exploration on the eastern margin is still limited and the prospectivity of the area depends on the identification of effective source rocks and the timing of hydrocarbon generation. Sonic velocity, apatite fission track (FT) and vitrinite reflectance analysis offer three complementary methods to determine burial history and provide independent analytical techniques to evaluate the timing and amount of exhumation. The results indicate that two phases of tectonic activity had the biggest influence on basin evolution: the Hercynian (Late Carboniferous–Triassic) and Alpine (Late Mesozoic/Cenozoic) tectonic events. Exhumation during the Hercynian tectonic event increases from the SE, where an almost complete Palaeozoic section is preserved, towards the NW. This study quantifies the significant regional Alpine exhumation of the southern and eastern margins of the basin, with important implications for the timing of hydrocarbon maturation and expulsion, particularly for the Silurian source rock interval. Incorporating elevated Alpine exhumation values into burial history models for wells in the eastern (Libyan) part of the basin allows calibration with available maturity (Roeq ) data using moderate values of Hercynian erosion. The result is preservation of the generation potential of Silurian (Tanezzuft) source rocks until maximum burial during Mesozoic/Cenozoic time, which improves the chance for preservation of hydrocarbon accumulations following entrapment. 相似文献

The behaviour of the ammonium ion in synthetic buddingtonite, N(D,H)4AlSi3O8, has been studied by infrared (IR) spectroscopy from 20 K to 298 K and by 2H NMR spectroscopy from 120 K to 298 K. IR spectra were collected from 500 to 3500 cm–1. Static 2H NMR spectra collected at 298 K and 120 K are very similar, consisting of a single sharp isotropic resonance, indicating complete averaging of quadrupolar interactions and implying that at these temperatures the ammonium ion is in rapid (<1 s) randomised motion within the M-site cavity of the feldspar framework. NMR spectroscopy indicates that the splitting of the internal modes of the ammonium ion observed by IR spectroscopy is not due to freezing in of the ammonium ion. This observation rules out the formation of a preferred N–H...O hydrogen bond, with precession of the ion about it, as proposed by Kimball and Megaw (1978), because any N–H...O hydrogen bond must be very weak and transient in nature. Contraction of the cavity site upon cooling imposes a distortion upon the ammonium ion that affects vibrational modes. This distortion does not affect the motion of the ammonium ion as observed on the NMR time-scale. 相似文献

U–Pb dating and Hf-isotope provenance analysis of detrital zircons from the glaciogenic lower Permian Grant Group of the Canning Basin indicate sources principally from basement terranes in central Australia, with subordinate components from terranes to the south and north. Integrating these data with field outcrop and subsurface evidence for ice sheets, including glacial valleys and striated pavements along the southern and northern margins of the basin, suggests that continental ice sheets extended over several Precambrian upland areas of western and central Australia during the late Paleozoic ice age (LPIA). The youngest zircons constrain the maximum age for contemporaneous ice sheet development to the late Carboniferous (Kasimovian), whereas palynology provides a minimum age of early Permian (Asselian–Sakmarian). Considering the palynological age of the Grant Group within the context of regional and global climate proxies, the main phase of continental ice sheet growth was possibly in the Ghzelian–Asselian. The presence of ice sheets older than Kasimovian in western and central Australia remains difficult to prove given a regional gap in deposition possibly covering the mid-Bashkirian to early Ghzelian within the main depocentres and even larger along basin margins, and the poor evidence for older Carboniferous glacial facies. There is also no evidence for extensive glacial facies younger than mid-Sakmarian in this region as opposed to eastern Australia where the youngest regional glacial phase was Guadalupian. 相似文献

Zones of anomalously high topography within continental interiors, distant from active plate boundaries, are interpreted as being either dynamically supported by viscous flow in the underlying mantle or influenced by plate tectonics. Constraining the models of their genesis requires accurate data on the timing and dimensions of such features. New apatite fission‐track and thermal maturity data from the Illizi Basin in Algeria quantify the magnitude and timing of kilometre–scale uplift and exhumation of the northern flank of the Hoggar swell in North Africa. The findings of this study, integrated with previously published thermochronological data, confirm that long‐wavelength regional uplift occurred during the Cenozoic extending over a distance in excess of 1500 km from north to south. The uplift, centred on the Hoggar Massif, significantly impacted the flanking Illizi and Tim Mersoï basins. The combination of thermal history modelling and regional stratigraphic observations indicates that the onset of exhumation of the Illizi Basin likely occurred during the Eocene, broadly coincident with magmatism on the Hoggar Massif to the south and the onset of tectonic shortening in the Atlasic belt to the north. 相似文献

The phase transition between the
and
phases of anorthite has been studied at elevated pressure by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in a diamond-anvil cell. The
phase transition is shown to be first-order in character for both end-member anorthite (CaAl2Si2O8) and for an anorthite with a small amount of albite component (NaAlSi3O8) in solid solution. Reversals of the transition across the phase boundary at three other compositions show that the transition
pressure (P
Tr) increases with increasing albite content. This behaviour is compared with that observed at elevated temperatures, and is
analysed in terms of Landau theory. 相似文献

The thermal anomalies associated with the Ia3d → I41/acd → I41/a transition sequence of phase transitions in leucite have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry and interpreted
with Landau theory. Both transitions are close to the tricritical point. The coupling between the two transitions is biquadratic,
and reduces the stability of the I41/a phase. 相似文献
